This Year's Model Updates:

Though it might not look different, the E-Class receives a substantial freshening for 2000, with an entirely new front end and a revised interior. Stability control, a Touch Shift automanual transmission, and side airbags for all outboard seating positions are now standard. A multifunction steering wheel debuts, and E430 models can be equipped with 4matic all-wheel drive. TeleAid, a cellular emergency service, is standard and the confounding COMAND system is optional. For 2000, free maintenance is provided for the duration of the warranty period. The E300 turbodiesel model has been dropped. Other changes are limited to minor cosmetic and functional upgrades.

Pros:
  • Distinctive good looks, lots of standard and optional safety equipment, free maintenance for duration of warranty, available all-wheel drive, refined powertrains, rock-solid engineering.
Cons:
  • Stately rather than sporty, gimmicky COMAND system option.

  • Engineered like no other car... - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Ive enjoyed my E430 from day one. I purchased it in Washington then drove to California later that year. I also drove it from Los Angeles to North Carolina and it was such a fun drive. I drove alone yet felt just as safe in the deserts of New Mexico as I did right here at home in Los Angeles. The car is very fun to drive and really is a superb automobile.

  • Very good - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Too small storage space in trunk. Expensive service and parts when using Pompano Beach Mercedes location: more that 2.65 times the cost at other Mercedes location in Canada and 65% more that non-Mercedes repair shops who have access to genuine Mercedes parts.

  • Great Driving Experience - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Great car, replace a sensor in 35000 miles, brake linings still good, will replace tires at 42000 miles. Wish they would supply michelin rather than continental. Will buy another this Spring.

  • Fun to drive but quality is poor - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

My 2000 E430 Sport was purchased in 2006 with 51000 miles on it. Three years later it still hasnt reached 60K. In 2007 it had B servicing which is a MB rip-off where they tell you all the stuff it needs but cant show you why the old stuff is bad or failing. They just tell you "the book says" and then try to extort as much cash as they can. Ive had to replace AC hoses, shifter bushings, climate control regulator, a transmission mount and the sunroof rattles. All on a car with less than 60K. I think this was one of Mercedes biggest quality failures and they could care less, they have their money.

  • The 4-430 AWD is super - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

This car has performed virtually flawlessly for three years. I hate to give it up. It is comfortable, a great road car.

  • Bank vault solid! - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

This wagon runs very smoothly, has bank vault built quality, and gives me the comfort and satisfactory ownership experience that is second to none. The space is humongous, yet the exterior remains a classic beauty. 4MATIC runs great in wet, and the team work between a powerful V-6 and a 5- speed automatic transmission is seamless. Safety features best in the business. This bank vault quality german machinery piece of art is worth every hard earned penny of mine when bought used.

  • Inside needs improvement - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Good riding but lacks some essential features. No Cruise indicator:Climate control no auto off (multiple depressions of off sw. on console whics is a distraction); /confusion between Turn lever and cruise control; no Mute function on steering wheel controls;no running lights;passanger cup holders a joke (in glove box); no additional outlets for PC/Radar detect.,cell phone, etc.

  • Lousy reliability - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Car had 22000 miles and manufacturers warranty (never wrecked, dealer serviced, full records). Cant find a better more solid feel in a midsize but the reliability is horrible. Everytime I crank it up I hope the radio works correctly. MB uses soft plastic, not hard, designed to break. Visor vanity covers break off routinely. Dont pull on seat backs, they will break off in your hand. Catalytic converter broke. Key system is horrible, locks are stiff and keys are skinny. Will buy American made Lincoln next time.

  • Mixed Bag of Tricks & Treats - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Our 2000 Desert Silver E320 is great fun to drive. It is a wolf in sheeps clothing. When driven easily, it is quiet & dignified. However, stomp on the gas or use the manual-shift feature & the car takes off like a rocket. Handling is also superb. Interior design is traditional Mercedes and looks like a million bucks as does the exterior (particularly the front-end). While the powertrain & cosmetics are first- rate, the electronics need much improvement in the way of reliability. Most recently, the CD player has stopped working. The radio unit thinks that the CD magazine is empty when it is full. Result? CD player inoperative. The 2003 E-class does not look as good (inside & out). Great car.

  • Electronic problems - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Purchased used in 2003;with 34,000 miles on it. Now has 115K miles on it. Have spent over $4000 in repairs since 2007:"ABS visit workshop"lite keeps coming on-requiring repeated visits. Replaced power steering unit in August. CD changer in trunk and temp & time displays on dash quit just over 1 yr of purchase.
