Overview & Reviews
All-wheel drive comes to the Mercedes' E-Class lineup via the E320 sedan and all-new E320 wagon. Like the rest of Mercedes' model lineup, E-Class cars formerly powered by an inline-six engine now receive a more fuel-efficient V6 unit that is also supposed to improve the cars' low-end response. The 1998 E-Class cars receive the benefit of BabySmart airbags which are able to detect the presence of a Mercedes' car seat in the front passenger seat and disable the front passenger airbag. BrakeAssist is also a new feature, which aids drivers' stopping distance in a panic-stop situation.
- Attractive, sporty, and refined, the E-Class cars are some of our favorites. Excellent fuel economy. Decent acceleration.

Sweet Car - 1998 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By KoolB70 - July 8 - 2:00 amHave not had this car long, bought it used with 60,000 miles as an alternative to a larger SUV. So far it has been perfect and fits our 3 kids just right. Three car-seats easily fit across the second row of seats and the 3rd row seats provides added seating versatility. The car was in excellent mechanical shape when I bought it. I did have to pay for sceduled maintenance and replace a few items due to normal wear and tear. Mercedes maintenance and replacement parts CAN be very expensive.

What an amazing car!!!! - 1998 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By porthmadog - March 10 - 2:57 amI love this car. I bought my E320 in Arizona 2 years ago. I originally only wanted to drive a manual car, however in trying to be objective in my car selection, I test drove an E320. Immediatly I loved it. Aside from one minor mishap with a transmission hose that was improperly put on during a flush (bad garage), I have had not a single issue. I even enjoyed my husband changing the over engineered 12 spark plugs, saving me over 1000 dollars. I currently have 111600 miles on the clock and am looking forward to having my E320 for many years to come. I will never buy another car unless it is a Mercedes.

Mercedes Diesel - 1998 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By vl39 - July 4 - 2:00 amHave been purchasing automobiles for 40 years, and this was my fifth(5) Mercedes. I have owned 1997 BMW740il, 1998 BMW328iC, Cadillacs, Pontiacs, 1961 Austin Healy. My 1998 E300TD is the best all around vehicle I have ever owned. Great mileage(>30mph), excellent handling and ride comfort, 0-60 in 8.5 seconds and 135mph top end with superb reliability. I have put on 91,000 road miles in 4 years with not one problem! I will sell this vehicle in the next few months because Mercedes has just announced they are bringing the diesel back to the US in the E class, a E270CDI, that will get 40mph.

Top Notch - 1998 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Edz auto - July 4 - 2:00 amThis car is tight, controlled and the only car I have driven that has zero wind noise under any conditions. The only problem a first was the Goodyear tires that vibrated at highway speeds. Once they were replaced by Michelins this cars was like a jewel.

1998 Mercedes 320 E - 1998 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By TLK - February 24 - 5:16 amThis is my second Mercedes. The first was a 1984 300D, Both cars drive exactly the same. Except the 320 has Superior acceleration, perfect handling. In hard corners, it leans, then sticks in position until leaving the corner. Okay, the "air" had to repaired under warranty. Not under warranty was right rear window lift, and the dual cooling fans. Remember, German cars were built to be driven hard! They thrive in RPMS and enjoy hard corners! Ask any knowledgable BMW or Porsche owner. I had a 1979 320i BMW. That car drove better at 120,000 miles than when it was new. Dont baby these cars. Drive them hard!

It is a good car..but expensive to keep - 1998 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Steve Ho - February 6 - 12:26 amI bought it as a certified pre-owned. the dealer was great..deliver the car to my wifes office..Fed Exp overnight a spare key as soon as my wife it on 2nd day..my local MB dealer pick up and return it for service..need road side assistance three times..the good side they showed up in an hour everytime. great services again. drive and ride great last 3 years. Cost to keep it is not cheap at all. my last invoice to replace 2 sensors and a few small things came to $2000. In last 3 services, nothing under $500. Engine noise increase in last 6 months. Dealer say it is normal.
