Overview & Reviews
Diesel fans, rejoice! After years of waiting, a Mercedes-Benz diesel is once again available in the States, as the E320 CDI joins the lineup. For now, this model is only 45-state certified, meaning that it's unavailable in California, Maine, Massachusetts, New York or Vermont. Beginning in March 2005, the base E320 becomes the E350 with the addition of a 3.5-liter V6 with 51 more horsepower. At the same time, a sport package will be added, which features upgraded suspension tuning and wheels, as well as steering wheel-mounted shift buttons. Complimentary scheduled maintenance program has been dropped for 2005.
- Sleek and dignified design inside and out, pleasing blend of ride and handling, sophisticated safety features, all-wheel drive available on both sedans and wagons.
- More expensive than competitors, confusing control layout, electronically controlled brakes lack progressive feel.

Built like a tank, fast as a jet - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By jerrya - December 17 - 11:00 pmThis is my first Mercedes, having been a BMW driver all my life. After the styling misdirection with BMW I looked for an alternative. What a find! I love this car! It is comfortable for every day driving and when you want it.....it flies! Its hard to describe unless you actually have the opportunity to put your foot into it. I realize it is expensive but the thrill and the beauty of the car is worth the price of admission. The difference between this car and a BMW 545 sport in lease payment was less than $250 per month. It is the best $250 per month I have ever spent. The steering feel is not quite up to BMW standards but EVERYTHING else is head and shoulders above it.

My E500 AWD - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By jm hilton - November 26 - 5:20 pmA great automobile with plenty of power, excellent comfort, and good mileage on trips (22+ mpg). The drive dynamic seats, keyless go, parktronic and navigation systems are super. No failures in the 19 months/19000 miles.

Absolute Dream Car- 2005 e-320 4matic - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Robert @ Providence, RI - November 24 - 7:10 amHave had my car for six months and have put 4000 miles on it, making 49,000 on a 2005 Model. It runs flawlessly and each time I turn the key is a joy. I only drive it locally in Rhode Island and have an excellent neighborhood Garage to perform required maintenance. Owner/Master Mechanic said,"You dont ever want to sell this car. It is in great condition!" And I wont...

I love this car! - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By James - October 30 - 6:40 pmI live approx. 26 miles from work. I needed a nice luxury car with good gas mileage since my last ride was a Hummer H2. This car has it all. Good gas mileage, a perfect blend of comfort and sportiness and luxury. Safety features are top notch. I feel very safe, secure, and pampered in this car. Funny thing with this car is the faster I drive it, the better gas mileage I get. I drove it to California and averaged about 33 mpg. I usually get 28 back and forth from work. First thing I did was put on some custom chrome wheels. So far had the car for 4 months and no problems. If you do purchase this car make sure you take time at delivery to learn all the great things this car can do

Perfect Balance of Quality and Economy - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By hwvalentine - October 20 - 6:36 amAfter 23,000 miles, not one problem. The build quality does not disappoint as in some previous Mercedes. The performance and economy of the diesel engine is unbelievable. My round-trip comute of 36 miles averaged 19 mpg in a 6 cyl. Grand Cherokee; the E320 averages 32. Best mileage was 41 for a long road trip and never lower than 26 in city driving. The diesel definitely prefers hot weather as highway milage drops about 4 mpg in the winter. The small items of bad news: the electric brakes have no reason to exist, there is no oil dipstick, the electronics are difficult to set, the stone colored carpet and mats are impossible to keep clean, and MB is not interested in owner feedback.

2005 E320 CDI - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Pierre Louis - June 30 - 10:00 amFirst 6000 miles are uneventful. The attention to detail is amazing. I need to make excuses to not drive this car all the time. Getting an average of 29.5 mpg (60% highway) is a little disappointing but has been improving with time. The ride is not too soft but soft enough for the horrible roads around here, especially for my neck problems. The acceleration is more like a big block V8 with the fuel economy of a Corolla. Handling is very confident and I dont even need to slow down on highway entrance ramps. I love the safety features, which include very refined brakes, head curtain airbags, and standard yaw control. The computer is easy to use.

Best Ever! - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Gmesetmtch1 - June 25 - 10:00 amAfter having driven this car for a few months and reflecting on my ownership experience with previously owned upscale sedans I have determined this is, by far, the best car I have ever had. Mercedes has done an excellent job of engineering and elimininating all the negatives one may have heard about a diesel car. I defy you to find a better combination of performance, luxury and value!
