Model Overview:

The Mazda CX-7 is a compact crossover SUV with seating for five. Introduced for 2007, it was a refinement on the more utilitarian Tribute and like most newer Mazdas, it has an athletic demeanor. The CX-7 also incorporates most of the elements that continue to make crossovers so popular, including carlike handling, available all-wheel drive and a useful amount of cargo capacity.

Although the CX-7 is fun to drive as crossovers go, its base four-cylinder engine is memorable for its sluggish acceleration and subpar fuel economy. The available turbocharged four-cylinder solves the performance problem, but its fuel economy is even worse. With the efficient CX-5 waiting in the wings, the CX-7 was phased out after the 2012 model year.

  • Poor in the elements - 2007 Mazda CX-7

Purchased with 6400 miles, turbo model with all upgrades, interior should have full leather, road noise from tires is horrible, tires wear very prematurely, poor in snow, wind noise with 1 window open, dash is chintzy, front window needs tint, gas mileage is not as advertised, traction control is useless. Trade value poor also, this is my third Mazda, (my past Miata and Mazda 6 are much better cars).

I took delivery only two weeks ago, so this review may be a bit premature. But Im really happy with the car so far. I test drove all the vehicles in its class before deciding on the CX-7. Its clearly designed to take on the Nissan Murano and does so with panache. Im a big Nissan fan (my other car is a Maxima and the CX-7 replaced a Pathfinder). I was impressed with how the CX-7 stacked up against the Murano in every possible way--for several thousand dollars less on a comparably equipped car. The CX-7 lives up to its "zoom zoom" billing.

I fell in love with this car when I saw it. Car is fun to drive but the ride is a bit stiff. Gas mileage is horrible for 4 cyl and the turbo lag is there. Sound system and tech package are as good as luxury cars. Had a problem with the rear brakes making a grinding noise. Dealer added a mod and it fixed the problem. Had (and still do) a problem with the door checks being noisy. Dealer has no solution, they already replaced them with new ones and the problem still exists.

The biggest negatives I can find with the cx7 is the back seat needing more leg room, my a/c isnt the coldest, and when blower is on 3+ it is loud, the ac vents could be a little bigger for more air blow, the black material seats and black thruout the car is very hard to keep clean w/dust particles, and the hard plastic material in the back hatch scratches very easy, and the loud engine when accelerating, head room is a little low, and low ceiling when loading larger items in the back hatch & could use a little more open console room. the pros are it is really comfortable to drive on long trips, turning capablility in a parking spot is awesome, solid ride, decent gas milage on the hwy.

  • Fun to Drive - 2007 Mazda CX-7

Have had the CX-7 for about a little over a week now. The gas mileage is still to be determined. The transmission has a mind of its own sometimes and gets a little confused what gear it should be in. I have FWD, and driving in heavy rain with water ponding on the roadway is a little challenging, the front tires seem to have a mind of their own at times.

  • Awesome crossover - 2010 Mazda CX-7

This SUV is one really good value for the money. It has great performance that provides excellent acceleration. Its very comfortable and the seats are very well put together. They have withstood my 6 year old child and all of his spills and damages. The SUV could have better fuel economy, but its better then most American crossovers. My Mazda is my favorite car that I have owned, and I have been through quite a bit of cars. My entire family loves how the car looks and what the inside looks like. The build quality is great too. Since I havent had it very long, I dont know its reliability but Im sure it will last me a very long time. Thanks Mazda

  • Best Car Purchase - 2012 Mazda CX-7

My husband and I just upgraded to an SUV and have been searching and shopping for over 6 months. I saw this car on the lot and it was so beautiful I had to test drive it, I didnt care about the price. I drove it and WOW, rides beautifully! The comfort of a luxury SUV for a reasonable price. I drive an hour and a half total to work everyday and I get great MPG! We bought it with 65k miles on it and we havent noticed any big issues or little issues. It takes turns sharp and clean, accelerates amazing for having a 4 cylinder engine. I feel like I have a 6 cylinder engine for the mpg and price of a 4 cylinder. My family and friends love riding with me, they always choose my car for carpool!

  • Reliable Mid Size SUV - Almost Perfect - 2010 Mazda CX-7

Mazda has got it right. CX-7 is a reliable compact SUV. Drive feels solid. Much work & thought has been done on the interiors. Very well placed buttons. Good Cargo space. I have owned the car for 3 weeks and it is a pleasure to drive the car.

  • zoom zoom :) - 2010 Mazda CX-7

Spent a lot of time reading reviews before purchase. This thing is flat out fun to drive. It may not be a sports car or be the fastest thing on the road but the 2.5 motor WILL get out of its own way. There is plenty of get up and go for my liking. The ride is a little stiff, but thats a nice trade off for how well this thing handles in the corners :) There is very little body roll. The gas mileage is decent, 23-24 so far with my average driving and better on the highway. The seats are little hard but more I sit in it, the more I like it. And the CX-7 is got great curb appeal. Nicest vehicle Ive owned yet, and Ive owned a few.

  • Love the efficiency, oh and zoom zoom 2 - 2008 Mazda CX-7

My new employer allowed me to pick out, negotiate, and purchase the vehicle I wished to use for company traveling. My ultimate choice was between Honda CR-V, and the Mazda CX-7. The Mazda won out because it drives like a sports car, has four doors, and loads of space for carrying work related marketing/sales equipment. I love it, its awesome to drive and averages over 20 mpg with lots of zoom zoom zoom.
