Model Overview:

The Mazda CX-7 is a compact crossover SUV with seating for five. Introduced for 2007, it was a refinement on the more utilitarian Tribute and like most newer Mazdas, it has an athletic demeanor. The CX-7 also incorporates most of the elements that continue to make crossovers so popular, including carlike handling, available all-wheel drive and a useful amount of cargo capacity.

Although the CX-7 is fun to drive as crossovers go, its base four-cylinder engine is memorable for its sluggish acceleration and subpar fuel economy. The available turbocharged four-cylinder solves the performance problem, but its fuel economy is even worse. With the efficient CX-5 waiting in the wings, the CX-7 was phased out after the 2012 model year.

Its more like a car than a truck. Quick and nimble but more room than Honda CR-V or Toyota rav 4

There is a huge blind spot when backing up, the cockpit is rather tight; the large wheels make getting in and out more difficult than I realized at first. It is fun to drive, but the cabin space is more limited than I realized at first. The fuel gauge is hard to see and I have almost run out of gas twice. The ride is very smooth and it accelerates quickly. The tires are set very wide and I have hit a curb several times already.

  • Not too bad - 2010 Mazda CX-7

Sporty looks both inside and out, suspension is a bit stiffer than similar cars in its class but it handles extremely well, braking is excellent, the turbo 4cyl. is surprisingly peppy but does have some "turbo lag" at times. Some minor complaints, the heated seats barely get warm and you would expect better sound quality from a Bose system, last but not least COME ON MAZDA both touring models should get an auto dimming rear view mirror!! Overall a nice little crossover with a great sporty feel. I tested the CRV, Outback and Rogue and ultimately choose the CX- 7

  • Questioning the purchase. - 2008 Mazda CX-7

We just bought this car 2 days ago. We drove quite a few cars and liked how this one took off (on premium gas)! Ultimately chose this one because of the great deal we got. Were mostly pleased with it. Whats up with the headlights? (We didnt drive the car after dark until after wed brought it home.) Theres a "line" across your field of vision which "divides" light and dark. Its not as obvious with high beam. Dealer service guy says its normal. Its very annoying. Seats could be a little more comfortable. Quieter ride would be nice. Better gas mileage, too. Everything else about the car were happy.

  • Surprisingly Good - 2008 Mazda CX-7

Coming from a Saab sport Combi-Wagon I remain mightly impressed with the overall performance. No it is not a fast or corner as well, but in the real world of handling and performance, it does everything I want

This car is gorgeous on the outside with the exception of the cheap plastic grille in front. The interior is well equipped but it is completely trimmed in plastic. Can definitely see where corners were cut to save money, like only having a map pocket on the back of the drivers seat. We love how easy the rear seats fold down. The stereo is strong for a stock system. Most importantly, this vehicle really gets up and goes. And as far as turbo lag goes, it is minimal at best. Any more power off the line and those expensive standard 18" tires would be smoked. One big negative, and probably only because we moved from an Acura TL into this vehicle, is the harsh and loud suspension.

One of the best vehicles Ive owned in oner 50 years of driving. Glad to see Ford is using some of this technology. Would buy another Mazda.

  • My 1st Mazda, lovin the 2008 CX-7! - 2008 Mazda CX-7

After owning all American cars (Chryslers, Fords and one GM) since my beloved 1985 Honda Civic I purchased a 2008 Mazda CX-7 Grand Touring after a recommendation from one of the dealerships I was shopping at. I had never even considered a Mazda before but I did about 4 days of crash research on everything Mazda I could find on the Net and test drove 3 different CX-7s before I made the purchase. After a week and a half of ownership I am in love with it. The drive, performance and look are second to none and I got a GREAT DEAL on it. So far I am very impressed and pleased with it, looking forward to doing a little customization on it! :-)

Living in Denver, 5 to 6,000 ft. above sea level, a turbo is a "must have" for performance! Losing 20% to 30% of a normal cars horsepower at this altitude, its great to be back in a turbo! I bought this car for its utility and performance, and it delivers on both. Great fun to drive! The premium gas is a small price to pay for the performance. Fuel mileage is about what I would expect for a car of this size and performance. Or maybe a little better!

This car is an excellent middle between conventional sedans and SUVs. I have packed it out more than once and barely noticed the drag. Visibility is surprisingly good. First impressions will always impress, the ladies will love it.
