Model Overview:

The Mazda CX-7 is a compact crossover SUV with seating for five. Introduced for 2007, it was a refinement on the more utilitarian Tribute and like most newer Mazdas, it has an athletic demeanor. The CX-7 also incorporates most of the elements that continue to make crossovers so popular, including carlike handling, available all-wheel drive and a useful amount of cargo capacity.

Although the CX-7 is fun to drive as crossovers go, its base four-cylinder engine is memorable for its sluggish acceleration and subpar fuel economy. The available turbocharged four-cylinder solves the performance problem, but its fuel economy is even worse. With the efficient CX-5 waiting in the wings, the CX-7 was phased out after the 2012 model year.

  • Love the efficiency, oh and zoom zoom 2 - 2008 Mazda CX-7

My new employer allowed me to pick out, negotiate, and purchase the vehicle I wished to use for company traveling. My ultimate choice was between Honda CR-V, and the Mazda CX-7. The Mazda won out because it drives like a sports car, has four doors, and loads of space for carrying work related marketing/sales equipment. I love it, its awesome to drive and averages over 20 mpg with lots of zoom zoom zoom.

So far, I love this vehicle! Since Ive only had it a short period of time (less than one month), my review of it isnt quite as thorough as some others. Ill be taking it overseas to the UK in a few months and I hope I love the handling of my CX-7 over there as much as I love it over here. Only beef I have with this vehicle is totally based on aesthetics. I originally liked the Copper Red Mica, but it doesnt come with the black interior. Having two small children I needed the darker interior. So I got the Liquid Platinum Metallic, and its growing on me *smiles.

I have owned my Mazda CX7 for three years, with very little problems. However, I am concerned about possible turbo issues down the road. Would love to hear about other owners of 2007 CX7s with over 60K? I have about 50K on mine. I currently love the car. I had one issue in which the warranty covered with no questions (I did have to show my maintenance records). This was for the the VVT / Time chain issue. Mazda took care of it, no problems, even provided me a loaner car!

  • Our CX-7 Goes to the Ozarks - 2007 Mazda CX-7

Our CX-7 Goes to the Ozarks - October, 2007 Our first vacation in more than eighteen months was also our first significant road trip in the CX-7. We were both curious as to how the little XUV would serve as a constant companion for a week. I wonÂ’t belabor the point, but the comfort, performance, handling and utility of our baby was remarkable! She proved to be the best travel vehicle weÂ’ve ever owned. This was a seven-day trip that took us from the flat Red River Delta of Northwest Louisiana to the magnificent Ozark Mountains of Northern Arkansas. We encountered rain, high winds and extreme temperature swings.Through it all, CX-7 Sport never failed. Never.

  • Fun to drive, looks sharp - 2007 Mazda CX-7

I bought my CX-7 about a week ago. Incredibly fun to drive. Transmission changes gears smoothly and effortlessly. Never feels heavy or ponderous. Able to zip ahead when you want to pass, whether youre going 30 or 80. Handling and braking are very good. Handles turns and cloverleafs much better than other SUVs without feeling like the car is leaning. Exterior styling is great. People have walked up in parking lots to ask about it and offer compliments on how good it looks. Have found myself just going out to drive, or heading to a store 20 miles away just to get a chance to drive a little more.

  • Love the car so far - 2009 Mazda CX-7

I recently bough the cx7 and am very happy with it. I really like the steering and the absence of body roll. The acceleration feels comfortable on the highway, but dont expect this to be a sportscar. There is plenty of room in the back for groceries or skis (when the seats are laid back). The rear seats are extremely easy to fold back. I also like the front bucket seats and the leather feels very good. The interior is way better than a Forrester or an accord. The few complaints that I have are fuel economy (for me that doesnt matter since I dont drive a lot). Also the bluetooth is useless. Also sometimes you can feels bumps on the road.

Air compressor locked up at 18000 miles and burned the drive belt up. Gas mileage stinks, dont let the dealership lie about the fuel, you HAVE to use premium gas or it lugs and shifts like crap.

  • Great CUV - 2008 Mazda CX-7

This is a great Crossover Utility Vehicle. It has very fast pick-up from zero and it hugs the road unbelievably. The exterior styling is very intriguing, will turn heads as you stroll by. The interior is also very stylish. The turbo comes in handy when needed.

  • Great but could be better - 2008 Mazda CX-7

We decided to get rid of our 04 Grand Prix due to several bad water pumps etc. We finally settled on the CX-7 after looking at it and the Mazda 5. The car has a sleek sporty shape to it and handles amazingly well, almost better than our old sedan. It has a lot of pep for a 4 cylinder. It is relatively comfortable and fairly decent on gas mileage. We have put a about 1200 miles on it so far and really enjoy it. The only problem we have had is one of the window control buttons did not work on the drivers door.

  • Swiss Army Knife of SUVs - 2007 Mazda CX-7

Longtime Mazda owner here. This is the "other" car in the garage and it usually is the vehicle of choice for weekend errands and long trips. This car is unstoppable in snow, pulls a small trailer without breaking a sweat, and can pass on two lane roads with some SERIOUS authority. Tradeoff is mpg (low 20s, best is 24 mpg) and slightly performance oriented ride/handling. The OEM tires are very stiff and, when replaced with OEM Ford Edge Continentals, absolutely transform this into a first class ride. Would definitely buy a CX7 again.
