Model Overview:

The Mazda CX-7 is a compact crossover SUV with seating for five. Introduced for 2007, it was a refinement on the more utilitarian Tribute and like most newer Mazdas, it has an athletic demeanor. The CX-7 also incorporates most of the elements that continue to make crossovers so popular, including carlike handling, available all-wheel drive and a useful amount of cargo capacity.

Although the CX-7 is fun to drive as crossovers go, its base four-cylinder engine is memorable for its sluggish acceleration and subpar fuel economy. The available turbocharged four-cylinder solves the performance problem, but its fuel economy is even worse. With the efficient CX-5 waiting in the wings, the CX-7 was phased out after the 2012 model year.

  • Owned for years, still love it - 2008 Mazda CX-7

I purchased a 2008 CX-7 new, in 2009. It was a "demo" model so I got a good deal. My car only has 25,000 miles on it so far (yeah, I dont drive it all the time). However, I do love the sporty feel, the moderately large cargo capacity, and the styling; it still looks cutting edge. I dont drive it much because my wife and I also own a diesel VW Jetta, which gets better than twice the mpg of the Mazda. Ive averaged about 18.5mpg on the CX-7 in the years Ive owned it. I love the sportiness of the vehicle, but youll have to make a judgement about whether poor fuel economy is worth the love of the road/drive. Im happy with my decision to buy this car.

  • We love our Zoom-Zoom - 2007 Mazda CX-7

Fast - Fun - Wow! We searched for months and months to find the right vehicle and the CX-7 won. I use it to commute in and I must admit that Ive never enjoyed going to work as much. An added benefit is that my husband and I equally love the car. We added the Homelink mirror which has our garage doors programmed in and exterior lights.

  • Great Car, when it runs 8^( - 2007 Mazda CX-7

I fell in love with the styling. I fell in love with the features. I fell in love with the handling. Then the honeymoon was over. After approximately 1800 miles on it, the engine started to sputter when it was cold. It idled fine. But as soon as you put it in gear, the engine would shake violently, & only rev to approximately 2k rpm when you mashed on the gas. The colder the weather the worse it was. 1st trip, dealer, they said it needed a software update. Didnt help. 2nd trip, tried to repair a valve. Didnt help. 3rd replace valve. 4th more software. It is on its 5th time and they dont know what is wrong (after 3 days). If it is not fixed this time, I will try to go the lemon law route. 8^(

  • Wow I finally love my car - 2007 Mazda CX-7

Ive had this car 3 months and love it! I researched/test drove too many to list. But once I drove this one, that was it. Great brakes, maybe too touchy, really fun to drive. I went for the low end because of money and really do not miss much. Yes there is lag in turbo, figured out if I get the rpms up I can control the acceleration. I leased this and will probably end up buying it or 2009 model. Best car Ive ever owned. Went from F-150/Expedition to CX-7 without any issues. Ford can keep their vehicles.

  • CX-7 Sport - 2007 Mazda CX-7

I bought my CX-7 in 2011. I am the 3rd owner and I have to say I am really please by the performance and overall quality Mazda put in this model. The turbo acceleration is one of the fastest I have been able to drive on a SUV and having that power ready under the hood provide a feeling of security on the roads (when you need to get out from a spot you have what it needs). I have drove 60K with it and do the maintenance regularly. Does not cost much at Petboys, and never had an issue. I read many post on reliability of this model and I do not understand like them what went wrong with their. I would put that on lack of knowledge of the mechanics who touched their cars.

  • True Value for Money - Best Compact SUV - 2010 Mazda CX-7
    By -

After looking at Honda CR-V, RAV4, Nissan Rouge & Mazda CX-7, the CX-7 is the best value for money compact SUV. It has a solid engine, which gives decent power with a good mileage for an SUV. Acceleration is smooth. The car has a solid build feel. The seats have a high quality cloth material. My daughter spilled carrot juice, but the juice didnt seep in the seats and we were able to wipe it off. The steering has all the possible controls for the sound system. It has got by far the best interior. The dashboard is pretty well designed. It has enough space in the trunk. All in all the SUV is a nice pleasant car to drive in town and across long distances.

  • Very Happy - 2007 Mazda CX-7

I traded in a 2006 BMW 325i, and I have been very happy with my CX7. I have found the engine to be very responsive with virtually no turbo lag, as it accelerates smoothly. It is stronger in the lower speeds which is where you want it. The ride is very good with good handling but still smooth. It has a great Bose stereo and the interior is well thought out and easy to use. I found the fuel economy to be right on with the urban mileage at 19 and the highway at 24. Now if you keep your foot hard on the accelerator and the turbo kicked in it obviously will be less as in all cars driven hard. I think the CX7 is a little more inviting to do this so the mileage is up to how you drive.

Great handling, gas a little expensive because of high octane need. Handles well, great on highway, great sound system, head turner. Should have turbo logo. Sunroof nice and big, plenty of cargo room, some turbo lag, awesome.

  • Bad Choice - 2007 Mazda CX-7
    By -

I loved this car when we first purchased it. After 3 months we started having problems with it. It has been in the shop 14 times in the year that we have had it. Trying to get it declared a lemon. New transmission module, new computer, new tires and new engine!! Dont buy this year model!

  • Just Loving It - 2007 Mazda CX-7
    By -

After owning several vehicles over the year my standards are very high when it comes to new vehicles. The CX7 is great value. Its not the best crossover out there but it is the best for the money spent. Good performance, nice ride with just the right amount of options. First Mazda, lets see how it goes.
