Overview & Reviews
The Mazda CX-7 is a compact crossover SUV with seating for five. Introduced for 2007, it was a refinement on the more utilitarian Tribute and like most newer Mazdas, it has an athletic demeanor. The CX-7 also incorporates most of the elements that continue to make crossovers so popular, including carlike handling, available all-wheel drive and a useful amount of cargo capacity.
Although the CX-7 is fun to drive as crossovers go, its base four-cylinder engine is memorable for its sluggish acceleration and subpar fuel economy. The available turbocharged four-cylinder solves the performance problem, but its fuel economy is even worse. With the efficient CX-5 waiting in the wings, the CX-7 was phased out after the 2012 model year.

An actual fun SUV - 2010 Mazda CX-7
By MrMiata - January 13 - 12:33 pmI have been a long time Mazda fanatic and when the time came to purchase a new SUV, I first looked at the CX-7. I got exactly what I expected, a fun to drive car thats still practical and not out of the average consumers price range. There are a lot of features on the S Touring but they should include a few more. The Grand Touring is only 5k more and has way more features. I am still satisfied with the purchase. Styling is great! I find that people like to stop me and talk about my CX-7 way more than my Miata, which I didnt think was possible. Ride quality is decent considering that it is a sport SUV. It has been worth every penny. Build quality is good for the price.

LOVE this car! - 2009 Mazda CX-7
By Shawn - January 8 - 10:00 amI have been a loyal Honda customer for 6 years and had the intention of purchasing a Honda CR-V. The Mazda CX-7 is so much fun to drive, has more room than the CR-V, and is very sleek. The handling is awesome and is just a fantastic car for our growing family, including pets. LOVE this car! When push came to shove, Honda wouldnt come close on the price OR the financing. I think I have been converted to a Mazda driver and may not ever go back to Honda. Everyone who has ridden in this car says it rides like a feather, especially in the back seat. It has a huge space in the rear and is just an all-around great car that is so much fun to drive! The Mazda CX-7 is my new favorite car!

CX7 Turbo compression - 2007 Mazda CX-7
By tjr12 - December 29 - 7:50 amOn my 2007 cx7, Mazda warranty replaced vvt & timing chain that was grinding during start-up. While replacing, the mech found the intake cam way out of phase & called Mazda Canada tech line for approval to correct. Mazda tech line asked for compression after vvt & timing chain replaced. Dealer Mech found #1 at 70/170; #2-40/100; #3-60/140; #4-30/80. Mazda Canada tech said this is ok and to send me home, happy that they replaced the timing chain. My Mazda Dealer told me they would recommend doing the required repairs but because Im requesting warranty to cover it because its a result of the timing chain. I called Mazda Canada & they told me to go back to my Service Manager to fix? Help!

Great Looks Poor Quality - 2007 Mazda CX-7
By 1micared - December 2 - 12:43 pmGas cap wont stay tight. Hot air blows in through vents forcing me to use a/c all the time. Bad odor like burned rubber and oil. Car had smoke coming from front end at 1k miles but dealership cant find any problem and says all is fine. Gas mileage was okay at first now getting only 14 MPG and I dont have a lead foot. Serious trouble.

Hate this Car - 2007 Mazda CX-7
By Zoom Zoom NO MORE - November 5 - 7:26 pmBought this car in 8/07. Hated it since the 2nd week of ownership! (I traded it last month.) This car is over-priced, cheap looking, hard to see out of, poor gas mileage, premium gas. I bit the bullet, worked out a good trade and kissed it good-bye! Never been so glad to get rid of a car!

Fun car Zoom-Zoom - 2007 Mazda CX-7
By solidhit - October 31 - 1:21 amTraded in my 03 Expedition for the CX 7. I was impressed with the zippy handling and overall performance of the CX. I was looking at several cross overs and smaller SUVs but the Touring edition had what I was looking for. I was surprised at the way the turbo 4 cyl handled with 4 people. I was expecting it to bog down with the extra weight but it certainly didnt. It has the room for everything I need it for including the towing package I needed for a small trailer and a future boat. Gas mileage from my first tank full was a respectful 17.5. I expect that to increase since I didnt drive very conservatively, wanting to see what she would do on different road types.

Turbo power! Excellent! Zoom Zoom! - 2007 Mazda CX-7
By Bruce - October 19 - 8:20 amMy favorite feature is the turbo engine. Accelerating on the entrance ramp to merge onto the highway or turning the corner into traffic comes with such ease, and I feel like I barely have to hit the gas. This is something I grew so tired of with previous cars I owned...hitting the gas and feeling like I am going nowhere, and never going to get there. Passing semis and slow moving traffic is just so easy because once again I feel like I just zoom right past them. I guess it depends what youre used to, but the V4 turbo power blows away V6 engines I have driven previously. Additionally, this car handles well, and the height you drive at is great. I feel safe and in control. So much fun to drive!
