Model Overview:

The Mazda CX-7 is a compact crossover SUV with seating for five. Introduced for 2007, it was a refinement on the more utilitarian Tribute and like most newer Mazdas, it has an athletic demeanor. The CX-7 also incorporates most of the elements that continue to make crossovers so popular, including carlike handling, available all-wheel drive and a useful amount of cargo capacity.

Although the CX-7 is fun to drive as crossovers go, its base four-cylinder engine is memorable for its sluggish acceleration and subpar fuel economy. The available turbocharged four-cylinder solves the performance problem, but its fuel economy is even worse. With the efficient CX-5 waiting in the wings, the CX-7 was phased out after the 2012 model year.

  • Great Car - 2011 Mazda CX-7

I bought my first mazda (mazda3 s) used in 2009 and I loved it. Since then I have bought 3 more and now I have a 2011 mazda3 s 2.5 and we just bought a 2011 Mazda CX-7 i touring. My wife loves the car, and I do too. It drives VERY nicely and is very well put together on the inside with alot of attention to detail. As far as being pokey, I have not seen it at all and I have the non-turbo engine.

Have had the CX-7 for over 1.5 years and love it. We had to have some recall work done once. All the rest is simple maintainence. Gas mileage has been improving, we are getting closer to 18.5 in town now, as high as 25 mpg on the hwy. Mostly 22-23 mpg. Tubo lag is slight but you get use to the peddle and know how to activate it smoothly. It is a blast to drive on open roads. The brakes are great especially for emergency stops in town. We are retired now and dont travel quite as much, but we do use it on long trips. We have the FWD GT with navigation, sirius, everything you could get but DVD screen.

Great mid-size SUV. Handling above average but could be better. Fuel economy not good. Plenty of power. Would love to see this model in a hybrid. Would love to have been able to purchase the sun roof as a stand alone option.

I was looking for a fun-to-drive AWD car/suv under $30K, and frustrated with poor reliability from VW/Audi. This fit the bill to a Tee. It looks great and gets comments and compliments from friends and strangers. It has terrific acceleration (especially passing), and handles curves like a sports car. Braking is superb. The Bose sound system rocks, and interior space is comfortable and functional. I drove the RAV4 and Murano and the driving experience was vastly better in the CX-7 (distinctly un-truck-like compared to the competition). Lastly, compared to equivalently equipped BMW M3, Volvo, Murano, Audi A7, even Subaru B9 Tribeca it was $5-10K less expensive.

Being a sports car kinda girl coming from driving a van, I really wanted a car that could give me both. I had to have cargo room. So I went looking for something to give me both. I thought I had settled on the Murano until I saw the CX-7 then drove it. I love this car! I love the way it looks and I love the way it drives. It really gives the feeling of a sports car.Two of my friends have since purchased their own after driving mine!! Who could blame them!

  • Luxury feel without the high price! - 2010 Mazda CX-7

My husband and I test drove the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 but didnt like the feel or excessive cabin noise. Although those vehicles had nice features, we wanted something that offered a balance of comfort, smooth ride, and great fuel economy. We decided to test drive the CX7 and fell in love. We were both surprised at how smooth the ride was and the build quality was fantastic! The cabin is also so well insulated that we didnt even need to turn up the volume on the radio while driving on the freeway! Needless to say, we drove off with our new CX7 completely satisfied with our purchase.

  • Great Looking Car, but company does not stand behind it and build quality is poor - 2007 Mazda CX-7
    By -

Plain and simple, if you are thinking of buying one - dont. Build quality is suspect. Company doesnt honor warranties. Company wont recall even when 1000s of customers have same issue, etc.

  • Excellent SUV! - 2010 Mazda CX-7

Awesome SUV for the money, great options, awesome styling. Non-turbo motor has adequate power for most needs - strains a little w/ 4 passengers and luggage. Gets right at 30mpg on this highway, smooth quiet ride. OEM tires not the best in snow but excellent traction/stability control keeps the vehicle on track. iSport w/ convenience package is a terrific value. Adding factory fog lights makes the front end much better looking - too much empty black plastic areas on the front bumper w/o the fog lights.

  • bad experience - 2007 Mazda CX-7
    By -

2 recalls in 1st week of ownership, car totally unprepared for release requiring 2 return trips to dealer. Harsh ride, too noisy to enjoy Bose sound system, new front calipers within 1000 miles, uneven acceleration, not recommended for long trips. driver windshield wiper leaves large amounts of water on passenger side due to uncoordinated wiper movements.
