  • My 1996 Escort is Better - 2006 Hyundai Sonata

This 2006 Shoddyota, aka Sonata, was acquired in 2007 with 14,000 miles. PROBLEMS before 30,000 miles: $1,200 engine repair to replace shoddy timing chain tensioners. Poor quality engine component should have been recall but Hyundai shafted owners by cutting compensation to dealers for doing the repair under warranty, which was essentially negating their much touted warranty. Defective sun visors. More orange peel than my Escort. Escort also has spring loaded side view mirrors unlike Shoddyota. Cruise control stopped working. Glove box door had to be shimmed to prevent rattle. Wiper blades had to be downsized to prevent hopping. Poor city mileage. Hyundai cant even design a cup holder !!

  • Warranty Goes - BEWARE - 2006 Hyundai Sonata

Purchased new the same year as our Honda Civic. Have put 74k miles in 5- years on Sonata, double that mileage on the Civic. Sonata feels & drive like the older care. Warranty is over on both. Civic runs like top. But, Sonata always has Engine Warning lights on. Handles & seat belts are breaking, also fixed prior under warranty. Costs building like crazy on Sonata. ESC has issues, dangerous loss of power occurs often. Was repaired both in and out of warranty. Both of us wish we would have gone with a Honda Accord instead. Sonata is cheaper. I got what I paid for.

**If you have the V6 Engine take note** Hyundai knows about a problam with the timeing chain auto tensioner which will cause your timing chain to fall off on the V6 engiine. I have 3,500 miles on my "06 LX" and it had to be towed in to the dealer and have the engine removed, taken apart and put back together again. It was in the shop for one week out of service. How was Hyundai service ? the dealer did a great job fixing it but Hyundai offered no compensation. Hyundai and the dealer also told me they know about the problam with the V6 and are trying to pull cars off the lot to put in the new piece. This is my second Hyundai and my last.. Look at the Honda or Toyota not Hyundai

  • NOT HAPPY!!! - 2006 Hyundai Sonata

I travel 160 miles per day, mostly all highway, and I am getting 24/26 MPG vs. the 33 on the sticker and all Hyundais advertisments.I have a 6cyl 2000 Toyota Avalon with 100K miles, a much nicer and certainly more comfortable vehicle, it averages 27 MPG doing the same trip day in and day out. I was willing to sacrifice comfort for a promise of much better gas mileage. Not only am I disappointed in the mileage, the seating is very un-supportive. I realize that I am much bigger then many people however, my wife is an average sized women and she also dislikes the seating. Unfortunately, you dont find these things out when you take the car for a test drive

  • Pits compared to the 2000 Hyundia - 2006 Hyundai Sonata

Problem starting motor, 2 to 5 tries needed. Missing stard equipment, lock on glove box repaired - looks used. they repaired the motor while still in for dealer options. Repairs not reported, seems there more damage since they do not list repairs done on invoice if i get one. They didnt have the sticker on the side window stating model, year, equipment, where it was made, seems to be a used car. they refuse to even help, not very fair to the buyer. seems they are back to where they start, past was junk; whats this? honesty seems to be gone

  • Not worth it even for the cheap price - 2006 Hyundai Sonata

Multiple trips to the dealership for problems including leaks, washer motor, etc... and one recall. Very poor gas mileage. Much worse than the accord i owned. Resale value very poor - over 50% of all sonatas go to fleets. I guess real buyers know better than to buy this.

  • horrible road noise - 2006 Hyundai Sonata

My 2006 Sonata V6 has a "moan" like blowing in a bottle at speeds in excess of 60 mph. It makes driving the car a miserable experience. The dealer doesnt seem to want to find the source and tell me that is normal noise. I have taken it back three times. I seriously regret buying this car and I should have spent more and got a quality car. The Sonata is great looking but what you see is NOT what you get.

  • What is it, seems used - 2006 Hyundai Sonata
    By -

Car received as new, missing standard parts. motot and glove box repaired without my ok. motor is hard to start! dealership/Hyundai do not back this car, why? BIG MISTAKE TRUSTING THEM, THEY ACT MORE LIKE BULLIES IN GRADE SHOOOL. Look elseware, I feel ripped off or worse (fraud).

  • Its a Dud - 2006 Hyundai Sonata
    By -

Engine replaced at 34,000 miles, transmission replaced at 51,000 miles. Hyundai corporate unconcerned about keeping me as a customer. At least they were replaced under warranty. Totally unreliable and no fun to own anymore while I wait for the next failure.
