  • The Value Leader of the 4-Door Sedans - 2006 Hyundai Sonata

I had this car for almost 4 years and just traded it for an Azera. I do not have many complaints. There were only a few warranty repairs. The dealer always honored the warranty despite what some people say. My 4-cyl felt more like 192 horsepower than 162. There was ample power 95% of the time. The 4 speed auto was smooth and the manual mode worked well, if a bit slow. Averaged 30-33 MPG on trips and 16-20 MPG in city driving only. The ride was comfortable, but the car could have used a bit more structural rigidity (a few squeaks and rattles). Interior comfort was also good and noise levels were low unless you really wound up the engine. Doing your own maintenance is also simple.

  • Great Value, Great Car - 2006 Hyundai Sonata

Great car, I have had this car for over 3 years now and have no problems, gas millage is good, spunky 4cyl is more then enough. This car is effortless to drive, I have another car choice of a much more expensive so called "drivers" car and I always choose the Sonata when I have long trips.

  • Love the gas mileage, hate the quality - 2006 Hyundai Sonata

It has about 57000 miles on it and its had 3 struts replace and 3 of the mounting brackets for the struts. The cruise controls are in a bind and are going to be replaced. Paint on both bumpers is cracked. Dealer repainted the hood but I got it back with the cluster assembly cracked in 4 places. Motor is very noisy when cold. Gas mileage is 27-28.

  • Looking forward to owning this for years - 2006 Hyundai Sonata

I previously owned a 2001 Elantra GLS, which I drove from 31k to 191k on the odometer. I bought this Sonata with 25k on the odo. Hopefully it can get me beyond 191k. I love the bigger engine, even though there is a little sacrifice with fuel economy. The car is put together very well and is a great car for highway driving. Granted, the suspension doesnt shield noise as well as the Accord, but given the price difference, its hard to justify buying the Japanese brands. For the money, this car is difficult to beat.

  • Comfort is so so - 2006 Hyundai Sonata

I have owned my car for 17 months, bought is at 13k miles, now at 38,500k. So far its been very reliable except for one issue. It has a tendency to cut out or have minor hesitation when going up hills. Dealership says nothing is wrong, not hard coding. I use the 100% gas (non ethanol)and it seems to help. The front seats lack comfort. My back quickly starts hurting on trips, I must use a small pillow for the lumbar area. Have already had the following replaced: Driver side door lock, sun visor and window assembly.

  • Driving it my way to the bank - 2006 Hyundai Sonata

Its a great car. I have owned it for over a year. If you can get passed the name plate your well on your way to a great ownership experience. If you have too much money go ahead and buy something else. But in all reality- this car has almost everything else beat in its class at a significantly lower price point. Engine is great. Interior fits my 6ft 2in 210lb frame very well. Its really quiet at freeway speeds. Its easy to get in and out of. The sound system w/ subwoofer is actually really quite good.

  • Hyundai Happy BUT .... - 2006 Hyundai Sonata

Purchased the 2006 Sonata LX V6 in June. Fresh off the factory floor. Good price for a good car despite two early recalls for minor fixs. Has good pick-up to get on highway. Good visibility. interesting areodynamics. You should see the air flow pattern from the driver seat when its snowing. Fasticinating. Easy reach to all important controls. Seat warmers work well - almsot to well. Downsides: Poor handing in snow. Darn seat belt bell wont stop ringing if you get out of the car with it idle.

  • You get what you pay for - 2006 Hyundai Sonata

My wife and I have been driving her Honda Accord since 1998, so when I bought my Sonata in March 08 used w/ 18k miles for just over $15k, I was holding my breath a little that I wasnt getting sucked in" to the hype. Four months and 4000 miles later, welllll???? Maybe a tad. This car has amazing power, great interior and exterior looks. Build quality doesnt come close to Honda, though. I guess its true. You get what you pay for. The paint job is maybe the worst Ive seen on any car..theres a big money saving area for Hyundai. Also, sheet metal is thin. I even have a little metal bubble on the drivers floorboard that "pops" when I push off to get out of the car. 20mpg city/30 pure hwy.

  • Looking good so far! - 2006 Hyundai Sonata

I am a former Honda Accord and Nissan Maxima (3) owner, so my standards are high. The Sonata is not as "cushy" as my former cars, but it measures up very nicely when one examines the overall look, fit and feel of the car, the warranty, the standard features, and then the price one pays. This has excellent value. I bought mine for $3000 less than the MSRP. I am pleased with the handling and overall comfort. The 4-cylinder engine has plenty of power. I especially like the Shiftronic feature, having owned manual transmission vehicles for more than 25 years. I can shift down when descending steep hills in my community. If the reliability of the car meets expectations, Ill be a winner!
