Overview & Reviews
The Hyundai Sonata is completely redesigned for 2006. It's also the first Hyundai car to be built in the U.S.
- More upscale-looking than its predecessor, powerful and refined V6, smooth highway ride, roomy interior.

Impressive, Could be so much better - 2006 Hyundai Sonata
By jws - March 9 - 7:30 amDrives fun and crisp. Lots of power, excellent brakes w/ 4-wheel disk breaks, ABS, and electronic Stability Control, but the fuel economy is VERY poor (~20 mpg on 40 mile roundtrip to work, mostly highway speeds, yet rated at 24-34; my Trooper got better gas mileage on same trip). Auto-transmission shifts smoothly; fake manual is a gimmick. Car feels solid. Not fond of large, dual branding on rear of car. Tried Fusion, Accord, Camry, and Mazda6 as well. This had as good a ride, more pep, better use of interior space. And the price is amazing for comparable cars. Have had for only 1 month so far, so this is my initial review.

Nothing Special - 2006 Hyundai Sonata
By Doug - January 17 - 3:33 amA decent ride thats comfortable but rather hum-drum. You dont get many second looks from other folks on the road regardless of age or gender (relatively first looks for that matter). Its more of a Buick from the Korean peninsula and less of an import with a tight, road-hugging feel. The handling is very subpar compared to the Subarus I have driven for the last 15 years. But for overall comfort with an ample number of conveniences its still a great buy.

Goes from A to B - 2006 Hyundai Sonata
By Todd - November 20 - 2:20 pmIm disappointed in the gas mileage of the V6 -- I get about 23 MPG despite driving probably 60/40 highway/city. But its a smooth ride with zippy power. The interior is conservative but refreshingly intuitive control- wise. While the car floats along fine and has all the basic bells and whistles (love the sunroof, wish it had an iPod port), it could use greater fuel efficiency or benefit from a hybrid engine someday. In all, a good getting around car, nothing more.

My Sonata-one problem - 2006 Hyundai Sonata
By Dave - September 24 - 2:53 amLove the car. It is fantastic except for one thing. THe leather seats which look great are killing my back Make sure you have a good back for them.

Hyundai Sonata: As Good As It Gets - 2006 Hyundai Sonata
By abgerard - August 6 - 6:43 amWe have had our Sonata for about 9 months. We live in the middle of nowhere, and the drive back from the dealership was about 200 miles, some freeway, some mountain highway. It performed flawlessly, showing off its great acceleration and handling. It is comfortable and fun to drive. My daughter, who is 24, doesnt understand why I would buy such a car because, as she says, Im "more of a car guy than that." Buy, you know what, if the purpose of a car is to get you from point A to point B quickly and comfortably, this Sonata with the V-6 is all I could want.

Disappointing gas mileage - 2006 Hyundai Sonata
By Kenny Morrison - June 25 - 6:53 pmI realize we stepped up to a V-6 and more horsepower, but I was hoping for more than 22 mpg avg. versus the 27 avg. we got with our Accord. The car is also more noisy than I expected out on the highway.

Is Camry & Accord worth an extra $4-8K?? - 2006 Hyundai Sonata
By Paul - May 24 - 7:26 pmI took the "Hyundai Challenge" and became a believer. I first drove an Accord and a Camry and after driving the Sonata there was no way to justify spending an extra $4 to 8K for a car in this class. The Sonata is a great car, smooth ride, solid feel, and looks great. I went with the LX with the moonroof and 6 CD player package. Comes with leather, heated seats, V6, shiftable automatic, and loads of safety features. Taking advantage of the rebate I got the car for $21K. Did all the negotiating for the car thru email and was extremely pleased with the experience and the dealership. I am hoping Hyundai will now live up to Honda and Toyotas quality and durability - time will tell!

Its OK for the price. - 2006 Hyundai Sonata
By Fernando - March 26 - 3:43 amGreat styling inside and out. Great safety features for any vehicle class. Good color options. 4-Speed SHIFTRONIC Automatic is fun, but it has some lag. Handling is OK but could use some improvment. Seems to need the electronic stablity control all the time. Steering definitly needs to be more responsive. large cabin space is a plus. It feels like a larger car, unfortunatly it drives lik one too. Projection style headlights offer good lighting at close range, but are lacking at moderate distance.

My first and maybe last car - 2006 Hyundai Sonata
By Joe Vasquez - January 27 - 4:13 amI did it. I went out and got a new car. After spending hours in many different makes and models, I couldnt get the Sonata out of my head. The price was great compared to other competing sedans, and the safety records sold me. Having a two yr old son, I jumped at the chance for a safe vehicle. The cab, whisper quiet. The body was beautiful. I got mine in cinnamon with the beige cloth interior. Very classy. I have owned it for only 4 days, but I never felt anything like this. Im weary on approx. gas mileage, sticker said 20hwy/30 city, but I read instances of lower than what was claimed by manufacturer. Other than that Im loving it. Ill keep you updated in the future if anything changes.
