Overview & Reviews
Few changes as first-generation Intrepid enters final year of production. A Sport Group including the 3.5-liter V6 engine is optional on base models, which also get an upgraded cassette stereo standard. Bolt-on wheel covers debut, and a new exterior color is introduced. Automatic transmissions get new software.
- Large interior, optional 3.5-liter V-6 engine, good looks
- Poor headlight performance, final year before redesign

My first car, lemon - 1997 Dodge Intrepid
By carnube - January 12 - 5:07 pmI bought this car used in 2010. I dont remember the exact millage but I believe it was over 150XXX. The AC didnt work, the turn radius was horrible, and there was a cassette stuck in the cassette player. I used to ask my passengers to try to get out for fun. 7 months after I bought it, it started overheating, got stuck on the side of the road a couple times. Had to replace the radiator and it cost about $500. Month later, the transmission went and I decided to junk it.

Shame on you M&M Dodge in Kalamazoo,MI - 1997 Dodge Intrepid
By Sara - October 3 - 5:01 pmI never though my 97 Intrepid would have turned out this bad. I replaced almost everything. I even had a friend make me a bolt for the engine because no one had a replacement. On my way to work my car just died. The only thing I havent replaced was the computer and I had done nothing to the wiring. Towed it to M&M Dodge in Kalamazoo, MI what I told them what the problem was but they didnt want to hear it. Woman are dumb! Joking. Well they figured out it was the computer, after they pulled off my new water pump, wanted $400 to put it back on. When my mom took the car back they told her it was unsafe, give them the title. The car was safe, they took the car.She fell for it. Shame on you M&M Dodge!

Car - 1997 Dodge Intrepid
By Chris - December 17 - 6:33 amI bought this car with 42,000 miles on it and I was the second owner. This car has been a pile of junk since day one. I have had all kinds of problems with it and only get about 19 mpg. It now has 104,000 miles on it and I have to get rid of it because it is making me go broke.

Unreliable - 1997 Dodge Intrepid
By Kendall - November 15 - 12:38 pmI owned the car for 3 months and in those three months it overheated, didnt start due to a computer issue, needed $700 worth of front end work (a major issue with all Intrepids according to my mechanic), needed new tires and alignment, and to top the cake, the transmission went (yet another popular issue with Intrepids). I spent another $1700 on rebuilding the engine. You tell me how my experience with the Intrepid was.
