Overview & Reviews
ES carries over, but the base model gets several improvements to remain competitive with the new Ford Taurus. ES styling cues and 16-inch wheels come standard on the base Intrepid. New colors and seat fabrics update this full-size sedan, and all Intrepids get noise, vibration and harshness improvements.

By dsiemens - December 4 - 10:52 amI purchased my 1996 Intrepid in fall of 1995 - its the best car a ever owned - Ive had some problems with it. I now have 565,000 kilometers on the origingal engine - I use regular 5 30 weight oil with power up as an engine additive. My brother bought a second hand 1996 Intrepid identical to mine and it had 185,000 kms it now has over 400,000 kms - super engine!!

Electrical problems - 1996 Dodge Intrepid
By robert - October 14 - 2:00 amI have had the car for 5 years with no problems. Now it has 200,650 miles on it. I am having trouble with check engine light staying on and the air bag light stays on now and some how it is connected to the air conditioner and windows they dont work when light is on. Also a mechanic told me the air bag can blow at any time in this condition when driving. this could be very dangerous or cause a deadly accident

Perfect - 1996 Dodge Intrepid
By Jaeger - August 31 - 9:49 pmI bought my 96 Dodge Intrepid at Stans Auto Sales in Kearney Nebraska and absolutely love it. It dies every thing you would expect and more. It doesnt have all the usual 90s Chrysler drawbacks, The paint doesnt fade, the seats are in perfect condition, etc. This car is just about perfect. I would strongly recommend a Dodge Intrepid for anyone.

I Absolutely Love This Car! - 1996 Dodge Intrepid
By dwyl - March 7 - 12:35 pmI really love this car! Bought it with only 34,000 miles on it. Handles great and gets 30 mpg on long trips. Have 180,000 miles on it now and it still runs great. Does use a bit of oil between 6,000 mile oil changes. Not enough to have to add any. (use Castrol 5/50 synthetic oil) No issues with the engine or transmission. Have had to replace the water pump twice. Smooth, comfortable ride. The window gaskets are falling off and the paint on the plastic panel behind the back doors has faded. According to records before I owned it, the steering pump was replaced twice, and the steering gear was replaced but Ive had no problems. I would definitely buy another one in a heartbeat!

A large car with class - 1996 Dodge Intrepid
By renderedconsequences - February 16 - 11:16 amI bought my car last spring with 86,000 miles, since then have put 9,000 miles on it. All Ive replaced is a power steering hose and the headlights. A great face lift for oxidized, old lenses. It hugs the corners, and feels great driving, comfortable. Handles great and has enough power to pass at anytime yet not so much thats easy to get into trouble all the time - though manageable. The only complaint I could possibly think of is how the air intake disconnects from the engine, this making the engine heat rise, but easily fixed by coupling it back. I do love this car and it looks terrific, though 13 years old it still has a near perfect paint job and has had no body work.

Great vehicle and fun to drive - 1996 Dodge Intrepid
By jaeggergs - November 17 - 11:23 amBought this vehicle as a demo with 5200 miles on it. It has been one of the best reliable, dependable vehicles Ive ever owned. Love the performance of the vehicle. Hugs corners with Pirellis. I have 187,000 miles on the vehicle. Replaced the engine, rebuilt the tranny & it still runs like a dream. Front end now goes about every 2 years. About $800. to repair. Having a hard time letting this vehicle go. Prefer driving it in bad weather over my SUV. Dont like the black "paper" between front & back doors as it peels off. Thats the worst I can say about this vehicle. Only stuck once and thats when the engine went with no warning. This vehicle owes me nothing. Would recommend to anyone

Wonderful Car - 1996 Dodge Intrepid
By luvmydodge - November 7 - 9:55 pmOverall this is a great car. I bought it with 60k miles on it and I finally had to let it go. I sold it because the transmission finally went out but this was after 280k miles. That was the only mechanical problem with this car.

My 1996 Dodge Intrepid - 1996 Dodge Intrepid
By FireBird - May 27 - 10:43 amI traded in my old Saturn for this car and only paid $100.00 for it. I have only had to replace the water pump one time at 181K, This car is a real nice build, about $35.00 will fill it up, and I drive it all year round. The A/C is nice and cold. I love this car!

Great Car - 1996 Dodge Intrepid
By catandave - September 2 - 5:29 pmEveryone told me I was in for problems when I bought my Intrepid. It ran great for 220,000 miles when we got rid of it for something to pull a boat. I never had to replace the transmission or any other major repairs, just minor brake replacements. This is something for any car that I drive. I believe in driving them hard. I would recommend this car to anyone.
