This Year's Model Updates:

A performance R/T model is onboard for 2000. Intrepids get five new colors, new seat fabric in Base models, and added horsepower and torque to ES models powered by the 2.7-liter V6. AutoStick is available with that engine, and ES buyers can order an in-dash CD changer. Tether-ready child-seat anchors have been added behind the rear seat, and cars sold in California meet LEV standards.

Pros:
  • Huge interior, gigantic trunk, available 3.2-liter V6 engine on the ES model, good looks.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, lots of engine and road noise, invisible corners make parking a chore.

  • looks cool....needs improvement - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

Have had many problems with my Intrepid, including replacing all factory seals around doors at <10000 miles, the ENTIRE rack & pinion steering system and another component I cant remember replaced at ~30000 (thank goodness for warranties!!) Then a pesky burning oil smell that turned out to be a blown rear seal near the cam shaft....several trips to the dealers to figure this out. Im ready to get out of the car, but now I find out Im hopelessly upside down despite 0% financing!!! Love the performance, looks and style, but am scared to death for the lack of realiability. I think I got a bad car....dont you?

I know that as soon as I submit this something will happen to my car, but I wanted to share my experience. We’ve had our Intrepid almost 3 years and its been great. Had 2 problems and they were both under warranty: the door seals came loose (a problem for many owners) and the wind dam. Compared it to the Accord, Camry, and Maxima. The other three could not stacked up on value: price + engine + storage + mileage. For those concerned about resale value you really need to consider keeping your car longer. It handles and accelerates well, changes gears at the right time, has great trunk space. Its a big car that doesnt ride like a land yacht.

  • So far, not bad.... - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

Have owned for 1 year. No major problems thus far, a few minor ones. Check engine light after one month, covered by warranty. Clunking noise in front end, link bar. Front rotors warped at 40,000 mi., replaced. Thats it so far for repairs. Windshield fogs up more than any vehicle weve had. Ditto for static buildup, touching doors while exiting will light you up every time. Windows squeak horribly while going up. Transmission can shift a bit rough when cold. Engine has performed well, but Im nervous about 2.7s shady history. Many failures, particularly in 98s and 99s. Very prone to sludging up, make certain oil changes are done on time, every time.

Ok. I have a 94 Intrepid. We loved it so much we kept it and bought a 2000 Intrepid. What a sleek design. And roomy too. Great family car. Doesnt give you the "mommy" look. Very sporty feeling to it.

Best family car on the road. Huge interior and trunk, good pickup, 30 mpg on the highway. Even my kids fight for the opportunity to drive it. After 3 years I have done absolutely nothing but change the oil. Best car I have every owned.

We traded a 95 Intrepid w/87000 miles on it for a new 2000 model becuase my wife loved the car. Rotor had to be replaced at 16000. The warranty statement does not list exceptions because "everything is covered" (except brakes). Seals around doors have had to be replaced twice, check valve on radiator had to be replaced, oil pan came loose, has been in the shop for "check engine" 8 times, 6 sensors have been replaced, timing chain tensioner failed causing extensive engine damage, second tensioner also failed. The car is 1400 miles over warranty now and I owe 3000 mor than its worth. As soon as I can afford to trade it in its gone.

Im please with my intrepid even if I had a few problems. Had the steering rack, sway bar endlinks, the door badges (they were pealing) and the door seals replaced all under warranty. the trunk release button wasnt working but got it fixed too. I also had some problem with my wipers, the dealer changed the switch, the wiper controller (the whole BCM was changed),wiper motor and now its all good!

  • Love my ES but not perfect - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

Overall a great car for the money. Bought an ES with all the options. Looks sharp, great interior, fun to drive. Very comfortable and (of course) roomy. Problems? While no major mechanical failues, the car did have annoying electrical issues for a time. Interior lights would dim/brighten on their own and climate control would occassionally default to "Manual" at start-up. Covered by warranty but two trips to the shop and two new computers before the problem was addressed. I dont trust the cars long-term reliabilty but would still buy it again because it was priced well and is so enjoyable to drive. Plan to keep it as long as I can.

  • Cheap - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

Love the roominess. Unreliable for nickle and dime things. I have had the door seals replaced 3 times. Dealer believes it is a design defect. Undersized engine, but comfortable especially on long drives. For a small 6 cylinder, the gas mileage is not very good. Slight transmission hesitation when cold (which dealer denies he can find). Minor engine probelms during warranty.

  • I was shocked - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

I had sworn of Dodges and was set to buy a Taurus. The car dealer was a friend of mine and said just drive the Intrepid. I bought that day. Seats were very comfortable (I had a Seebring and hated the seats). Great pick up very quite and fun to drive. It is great to have someone else in the front seat and not have your shoulders touching.
