This Year's Model Updates:

A performance R/T model is onboard for 2000. Intrepids get five new colors, new seat fabric in Base models, and added horsepower and torque to ES models powered by the 2.7-liter V6. AutoStick is available with that engine, and ES buyers can order an in-dash CD changer. Tether-ready child-seat anchors have been added behind the rear seat, and cars sold in California meet LEV standards.

Pros:
  • Huge interior, gigantic trunk, available 3.2-liter V6 engine on the ES model, good looks.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, lots of engine and road noise, invisible corners make parking a chore.

  • Beware - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

I was seduced by this car. It is beautiful. However, I have had one problem after another. I still owe 4k on it and am having to trade it in. Engine is going on it and it only has 85000 miles on it. Was told the engine will lock up eventually. I am so ticked off...DONT BUY ONE!

I have enjoyed my 2000 Intrepid. The problem I have had with it thus far includes the front bumper hitting high driveways which has caused paint damage. Paint defects in other areas as well. This takes away from the quality, look and appeal of the vehicle. I wish I would have been informed of this problem at the dealership. The trunk leaks as well. I am not sure if this is a manufacturers problem or something happened to it in transport.

  • Life with my 2000 Intrepid - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

My intrepid has 125000 miles and has been for the most part a reliable car. It still rides great and is the most comfortable car i have owned. Problems that I have had include the following. Both of the electric window motors went up at about 32000 miles which were covered under warranty. The rack and pinion went up in the car at 58000 miles $1200 to fix. The rubber door seals have shrunk so that they do not fit around the doors. The interior plastic trim around the doors has cracked and fallen apart.

  • Drive Over Durability. Good is Enough - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

This vehicle came off lease with a full warranty and has got me to and fro safely on many road trips on the east coast. However the warranty paid for several issues: bad lock, bad evaporator(a/c), transmission cooler lines, oil sensor, and output sensor. Nothing catastrophic yet at 92K, just annoying stuff. It was stolen and broken into twice because the locks are cheap get an alarm in the city. The motor runs great with KN Filter and regular engine cleaner additive every 4K.

  • 2.7 engine is garbage - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

Bought car used. I use full synthetic oil and change religiously at 3000 miles. Oil sludge is still there (propbably prior to when I bought it). Will be changing engine to a 3.5 liter. If it wasnt for the problems with the 2.7 L. it would be a perfect car.

  • Engine Blow! - 2000 Dodge Intrepid
    By -

I was another victim of an engine blowout on the 2.7L engine. The car was also a pleasure to drive because of the amount of space, but the brakes were a bit of a hassle and required new break pads more often than similar cars in its class. The engine started giving me troubles a couple years ago and I kept putting small bandaids on the problems (mostly to do with the way the car handled oil). Then one day, I noticed a louder-than-normal knocking and then grinding and then.... Im disappointed I didnt get more life out of this car, but it did get 146,000 miles, so its not a total loss, but I wasnt prepared to buy again so soon.

  • IMPRESSED OWNER - 2000 Dodge Intrepid
    By -

I was impressed with this car the beginning. Plenty of room and good performance. Grabs the road real well. Good acceleration in the highway. I have not have to see the dealer for a single service item. Road noise is a little loud compare to luxury sedans but not for a sport sedan like this one. Impressed with the quality of the build and the interior finish. Almost like a European car. Fuel mileage is between 23 and 26 miles per gallon. Own the 3.2 liter version.

  • Spacious but unreliable - 2000 Dodge Intrepid
    By -

Love the space and comfort of the Intrepid - hate the reliability. We had to completely replace the engine after less than 80K miles, were told it was sludge build up from poor maintenance although we run synthetic Amsoil and perform routine maintenance. Door locks jam trapping you in and out of the car without a keyless entry - told the rods are corroded and it is common, similar to the engine failure issues.

  • My used Intrepid - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

I needed a larger auto as my kids were getting too big for the back seat of Prizm. The Intrepid has fantastic legroom, drives well, is comfortable for trips and gets very good mileage (a real need) for a large car. I have had NO mechanical trouble, perform maintenance myself and have been pleased with the car. I do not regret purchasing this auto at all.

First of all POOR service by local dealers. The car has had numerous small problems. Wheel bearings, cog&chain in the tranny, power window closers, electrical harness, third brake light and the car still has a shake in the front end at highway speeds with a rumble noise. All tires and balance have been chaged and rechecked several times. Dealer says they know its there dont know how to fix it. Oh what a feeling!!!! I think a Toyota is in the future.
