This Year's Model Updates:

A performance R/T model is onboard for 2000. Intrepids get five new colors, new seat fabric in Base models, and added horsepower and torque to ES models powered by the 2.7-liter V6. AutoStick is available with that engine, and ES buyers can order an in-dash CD changer. Tether-ready child-seat anchors have been added behind the rear seat, and cars sold in California meet LEV standards.

Pros:
  • Huge interior, gigantic trunk, available 3.2-liter V6 engine on the ES model, good looks.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, lots of engine and road noise, invisible corners make parking a chore.

Extreme wind noise exasperated by shrinkage of the door seals. Steering problems. Crummy wheel covers. Overall a dud of a car.

(Bought new) Had locks on 2 doors replace, made a loud noise when operating. Low front end scrapes inclines/declines. Had thermostate replaced dealer said soon to overheat. Heat/AC vents just fell off of two - had replaced. Gears skip when pressing gas pedal in stop and go traffic. Does not hold value. Small back seat for legs. Trunk to high.

  • Avoid the 2.7L at all costs!!!!! - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

Whatever you do dont buy the 2.7L. Ours just blew up after 50,000 miles. If you dont beleive me do an internet search for "Dodge 2.7 sludge", you will see hundreds if not thousands of other people complaining of the same thing at even lower milage! The 2.7L has a design flaw where the top half of the engine overheats and causes oil to turn to sludge, it makes it look like it hasnt had an oil change in years even if it has and they void your warranty over it! If the sludge wasnt bad enough, the sludge screws with the timing belt tensioners and loosens the timing belts in a lot of cases too! Causing damage to lifters and requiring thousands in repairs! Class action suits have been filed

  • Dissatisfied - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

I am very dissatisfied with the car. We had trouble with it with a cam shaft cencor whitch ended up costing us better than $500 and now the timing chain went threw the engine and is goiing to cost us about $5,000 to fix. We only have 81000 miles on it. My old 96 Monte carlo has 194000 on it and only uses a court of oil between oil changes every 5000 miles. We changed the oil on the Intreped every 3000 miles and it is JUNK. I dont think that I could ever buy another DODGE produt again. JUNK JUNK JUNK

  • Nothing but trouble - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

This car has been one huge disapointment. Chrysler has ignored my complaints about costly major repairs than began a few miles after the warranty expired. I replaced the rack and pinion system right after the warranty was up. It has mysterious front end clunks that nobody can explain. Ive replaced tensioners in the drive chain. The electronic door lock on the passenger side is squealing loudly. Ive already replaced the rear lock actuator. The seals around all the doors droop and fall down often. I also get a lot of water under my feet that soaks the mats but dont know where its coming from. My seat frames are now rusting.
