This Year's Model Updates:

Jaguar introduced its youth-oriented X-Type last year, so 2003 holds little changes for the baby Jag. There's a slight reduction in the price of the base model, and electrochromic mirrors are standard on all trim levels. Cars equipped with the 3.0-liter mill now get 17-inch wheels and a CD player as standard equipment.

Pros:
  • Reasonable base pricing, sporty handling, all-wheel drive, currently the only Jaguar available with a manual transmission.
Cons:
  • Spartan interior design, some less-than-prestigious Ford-themed switchgear and exterior styling cues, price goes up with options faster than you can say "Ford Mondeo."

  • Parts nightmare - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

I have had this car 9 months and the drive shaft has been replaced twice, and it has been in the shop 2 weeks waiting on a barrel for the ignition. They never have parts readily available.

  • Very Affordable Jaguar for the Masses - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

Re:Jaguar X type AWD 2.5 auto, sunroof, heated seats for invoice OUT THE DOOR. Because of the $2k incentive that dealers are getting from JaguarNA. Power is 3rd in class behind BMW & Audis. Goto the 3.0 if u need to race. 2.5 V6 is sufficent for mix hwy/city. Well made & put together inside. Quality seems to be improved in 2nd year of production. Weird is the free included service schedule calls for oil changes @ 10K interval Yet, the car doesnt use synthetic oil!! If u plan on keeping the car for a awhile...stick w/ 3K miles oil changes @ YOUR expense. Very good package for the price esp. now that car market is full of competitors.

I was in the automobile business for 25 years and this is the car I leased. The quality is there and I am very pleased with the dealership as well as the automobile.

  • Quality midsize performer. - 2003 Jaguar X-Type
    By -

Although classed as "Midsize" its quality seating makes the interior seem small. Should the driver require all the available seat adjustment, it gives very little room for the rear passenger. As a drivers car, it has few equals. The All Wheel Drive gives great confidence in all weather conditions. The superb road handling can give the impression the car is on rails! Powered by the zesty 3.0 litre engine it can leave you with the impression that you are behind a turbo charged V8! Take your foot off the power and you are driving a luxury limo. Put your foot down and the smooth powerful engine puts you in the Ferrari class.

  • Do NOT buy this car! - 2003 Jaguar X-Type
    By -

This is far and away the WORST car I have ever owned. Absolutely ZERO pick- up, lengthy mechanical issues incl electrical, and about as much energy as if it were two hamsters running the wheel instead of an engine. I cant WAIT for the lease to end. Loathe this vehicle.

  • Jaguar X-Type 2.5 awd - 2003 Jaguar X-Type
    By -

I bought this 2003 X-type (manual transmission) with 5,400 miles. I love it so far. Have had it for four months and have had no problems yet. The awd is excellent. Near impossible to spin a tire or lose control of car. Acceleration is good and handling is great. Exterior styling turns heads wherever I go.

  • Awesome! - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

Easily the best, and I do mean the best, sport sedan available to today. No other car in this price range can match its performance, luxury and appeal. None.

  • Very Pleased - 2003 Jaguar X-Type
    By -

Other reviewers here claim the Jaguar X- Type looks like a Mercury Sable or other cars. Are they blind! The exterior looks nothing like a Sable. Nor does the interior look like a Sable in fact its beautiful and as good or better than that of any car in any class today under $100,000. The interior layout was so well done that Jaguar has now adopted the identical design for the new versions of their more expensive and larger S and XJ types. Its also a great use of space with a surprisingly large trunk and a light airy cabin. When I see another X- type on the road I can’t believe it appears so small on the outside. The whole package is great.

This is one great car. Living in Pittsburgh where the roads can be slick and rough, the AWD is a great feature. Maybe the 2.5L is a little short on HP, but the auto transmission makes the most of what you have. Let the engine rev!
