Overview & Reviews
Jaguar introduced its youth-oriented X-Type last year, so 2003 holds little changes for the baby Jag. There's a slight reduction in the price of the base model, and electrochromic mirrors are standard on all trim levels. Cars equipped with the 3.0-liter mill now get 17-inch wheels and a CD player as standard equipment.
- Reasonable base pricing, sporty handling, all-wheel drive, currently the only Jaguar available with a manual transmission.
- Spartan interior design, some less-than-prestigious Ford-themed switchgear and exterior styling cues, price goes up with options faster than you can say "Ford Mondeo."

Fast cat - 2003 Jaguar X-Type
By jkd - May 18 - 10:00 amWhat a fun ride! The cars suspension is so smooth, it almost feels as if I am riding on air! It corners tight, not much play in the wheel, and has great acceleration. The interior is luxurious yet sporty and the sound system is excellent. Ive driven this car long distances, back and forth from Ohio to Florida several times, and found it to be super on gas - between 29 and 32 mph, of course I use nothing but premium, but its worth it. Did I mention the design? Its lines are gorgeous... Im in love with my car! Oooh......

Best Entry Lux around - 2003 Jaguar X-Type
By RJP81101 - April 29 - 10:00 amJust traded in my 2.5 for the 3.0. The 2.5 was fine, but I wanted more power and speed. The 3.0 has plenty. Also, the X-Type in general is the best handling car on the road. During a very snowy winter this past year, I did not lose traction at all. It is also the best looking car on the road, in my biased opinion!

Made me buy an XJ8 also! - 2003 Jaguar X-Type
By cali34652 - April 29 - 10:00 amThe lines of this car make my heart palpitate, and the Phoenix red makes it one of the sexiest sedans on the road. Took a demo home for the weekend, went out to dinner that evening, as we waited to be seated everyone in the restaurant was talking about the bright red Jag in the parking lot. Two weeks later I picked up my "arrest me red" kitty. I have yet to have a problem with the X! Now for the bad, Jag service is abysmal. I own two Jags, have had problems with my 2000 XJ8, if you have a problem, expect to get to KNOW your service advisor.

Better than reported by the "experts" - 2003 Jaguar X-Type
By love my X - February 20 - 9:56 amEveryone and their cousin has either a 3 series or C class - for good reason, both are excellent cars, Ive had both - but it was time for a change. On that note this little Jag delivers. People dont confuse it for a Corolla or Honda. The body style is very reminiscent of the 84 which was one of my favorite cars as a kid. Regarding power, it accelerates just fine, I dont need a racecar to go back and forth to work or run errands. As for issues regarding the small rear seat, this is a small car, not a Chevrolet Impala. Its meant to be small and nimble, which is part of what makes it perfect. It drives smooth and the sport mode makes it quicker.

I am not happy - 2003 Jaguar X-Type
By taxmom2000 - February 13 - 2:00 amMy x-type has 4000 miles and is going into the shop for the 3rd time. I have an annoying whistle, so they replaced the drive shaft, but the whistle came back. Now I am waiting for a new transmission, they think that is where the noise is coming from. The other problem is with the gas tank design. If the gas pump hits the door spring the wrong way, it knocks the spring off and you cant open the door, unfortunately Jaguar didnt design the car with a release in the trunk, so I had to go back to Jaguar to get the tank door opened before I could get gas. For the money, I expected a much smoother ride and it isnt there.

My wife is happy and so am I - 2003 Jaguar X-Type
By krv460 - February 8 - 10:00 amMy wife was ready for a new car so we looked at everything. The second she saw this car she knew this was it. I read the "whiny" reviews and tried to steer her elswhere... No Way! I made her test drive the Beamer and all of those "recommended" cars...No Luck. Well its been a short time but this car is great, definitely a chick car but she loves it and life is short so go for it, you will be happy too.

Much better than I expected - 2003 Jaguar X-Type
By Darel Parker - February 4 - 4:13 amAfter looking at similarly priced BMWs and Mercedes, I decided to take a chance on the X-Type and I have not been disappointed. I absolutely love this car. Inside and out, the X-Type is beautiful, and driving it is a dream. With an automatic transmission, the 2.5 liter engine is a bit underpowered but the performance is more than acceptable and the handling is superb. The X-Type styling really stands out in the crowded entry-level luxury market. If you dont tell people what you paid for the car, theyll assume you paid twice as much. It is that nice.

Road noise is my only complaint - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

what a car!! - 2003 Jaguar X-Type
By ilsa - January 5 - 10:00 amThe jaguar x type is a fantastic auto!! Deserves a look if you are looking for a luxury mid sized car. Best deals seem to be buying one after it has been leased for a year or less, with 10000 or less miles. Handles the wisconsin snow like no car I have ever driven. We are x type owners for life!! Handles extremely well in any conditions and has power to spare. The sport seats really hug your rear end and not that its too uncomfortable but you do have to get used to it.
