This Year's Model Updates:

Last year's 2.4T model is now the 2.5T, with the same 208-horsepower engine as the AWD model. Bi-xenon headlights are a new option, while the sport package for the 2.5T includes speed-sensitive power steering.

Pros:
  • Superb comfort, wide variety of safety and luxury features, balanced ride and handling characteristics, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • Handling lacks true sport sedan precision, expensive optional equipment, turbo lag and torque steer in the T5 model.

  • My Second Volvo - 2004 Volvo S60

This is my second Volvo, going from a 2000 S70 to a 2004 S60 2.5T. The turbo makes this a fast, fun to drive, sporty car. The premium and sport packages provide a high-end feel and a solid drive. Its admittedly not as roomy or comfortable as the S70, but the ride is substantially improved. The stereo is also excellent. While its probably not the fastest car on the road (I test drove an Infiniti G35 that was superior in speed and handling), its fast enough and has enough of a luxury feel to rate the car highly.

I received my 2.5 turbo awd on Dec 15,2003. It was great timing with a good snow storm coming the next night. I went out at midnight to drive up and down the unplowed hills in this part of Wisconsin and was amazed at the cars ability to just go where I wanted it to go with out any real effort. I took a quick cruise to Detroit and back (averaging about 78 mph going along with flow of the crazy drivers around Chicago and across Michigan) It was extremely comfortable and secure feeling. It has taken me a little while to get used to the "turbo lag" in city street driving. So far (about 5000 miles) it has been totally without defect or problem.

This car moves. Can beat just about any other car off the line and can keep up with the best. Highway speeds, you pop her into 6th gear and she purrrrs at you. Safe, strong and maneuvers well for a car of its size and weight. Amazing look. MUST get the 18" with Pegasus titanium rims. Perfect combination of sport and luxury. Mercedes and Lexus are shaking in their boots, especially with the MY05s on their way.

  • Disappointed - 2004 Volvo S60

The car is nice looking and safe, but beyond that I have not been impressed. The turning radius is terrible, it takes about 5 turns to get out of a parking space. The automatic key lock has a prolonged delay, and I find myself waiting for my doors to open and lock. The car makes noises when you turn left, and the dealer said "thats just what this car does". Brake pads are not covered under the warranty and they needed to be replaced at 15,000 miles. Overall not impressed with the Volvo, and would not buy another.

This isnt a soccer moms Volvo. Please dont by one if you dont intend to DRIVE it and know what it means to control a wolf in sheeps clothing. The acceleration is a kick in the seat of the pants. Fling it around a couple of tight corners and you truly appreciate all the computers that make cornering a dream. I doubted the Active Chassis system until I drove the car. The difference between the settings is very noticeable. The ride is silky in comfort, comfortable but aggressive in sport, and stuck to the asphalt-track ready in advanced. Everything you loved about Volvo, only 1000 times better.

  • Volvo curse - 2004 Volvo S60

Weve owned our brand new 2004 S60 2.5T for 10 days and its been at the service dept for more than half of the time weve owned it. The night we drove it home, we noticed a vibration-shimmie which, after 3 attempts, the dealer has been unable to diagnose and repair; they have balanced the tires, changed the tires and the problem has not been resolved after three attempts. Weve put more miles on the loaner cars than our own car, lemon law here we come. We bought a BIG, EXPENSIVE problem; we never expected this to happen with Volvos reputation and the amount of money that we spent, but it did!

  • AWESOME SWEDE - 2004 Volvo S60

Ive had the car for about 2 months & Im still impressed. Car has tremendous grip. Turbo boost peaks at low revs giving superb & effortless off the line acceleration. Seems much quicker then specs suggest. Great auto transmission, almost never feel it shifting. Tremendous brakes & AWD, never heard the tires squeal even under emergency conditions. Accelerates 0-60 within .1 sec of the more $ auto T5 & R models & R model REQUIRES changing to winter tires. Had that pain with my last car. Added on a Magellan navigation system. Absolutely awesome. I cant get lost no matter how hard I try. Overall a great everyday car.

I really fell in love with this car on my first test drive. Good power and quality for a decent price. I have never had a problem with squeeky brakes. For those who have the six speed, I would suggest using your downshift to brake your speed. Many who are not used to a stick often crystalize the brakes and the rotors by using them too much. Dont be afraid to rev this engine on the downshift - it is half the fun of a performance car.

  • Best Car for $3,500!! - 2004 Volvo S60

I found this amazing car last minute on craigslist. I had previously owned a 2003 BMW 3-series that was riddled with problems and kept my wallet pretty slim... I needed AWD/4WD because I go to school in an area where it snows a lot. I have yet to report on how the AWD is in the snow but Ive been disappointed so far with how it takes off in the rain (maybe its because of the KUMHO tires)... In terms of reliability, Ive gotten the oil changed 2 times already at my local Volvo dealership, both times, theyve said the car looked amazing and needed nothing. I may get the Transmission fluid done on my next visit because sometimes from 1st-2nd gear it flares after a long highway drive. My particular car has the sport seats but doesnt have the GPS or the Xenon headlight option... bummer. The seats feel amazing, even after sitting in the car for 7+ hours non-stop!!! The back seats seriously lack leg-room and the turning radius absolutely sucks.... Aside from those two negatives, Id totally recommend this car to anyone! Mine of course was a 2 owner car, very well taken care of at the dealership/volvo indy shop. After 11 years, this car still looks amazing and people still ask me if its brand new. Take care of it, feed it premium fuel, only use synthetic oil, and itll return the favor!!!
