This Year's Model Updates:

The four-door Double Cab joins the 2004 Toyota Tundra lineup. The Double Cab rides on an extended wheelbase of 140.5 inches, and features a cargo bed equal in length to the Access Cab's while gaining 3.5 inches of depth.

Pros:
  • Smooth and refined V8, Toyota build quality and reliability, easy maneuverability in urban areas, roomy Double Cab configuration.
Cons:
  • Lacks serious brawn for towing and hauling, uncomfortable front seats, cramped rear seat in Access Cab, chintzy interior trimmings.

  • a year later... - 2004 Toyota Tundra

I did lots of research before I bought it (used with 11,000mi) and there is no doubt the Tundra fits my needs the best. I have two carseats in the car (Thanks for the LATCH) and carry my MC in the bed. Having owned the car for a year. Im quite satisfied and would recommend the car without hesitation. It is full of features and convencience items that makes it a great family car. However, there are a few things I am surprised Toyota missed. (For reference, previous cars include a 911,CR-V, Accord, 300Z, Explorer, Mustang...)

  • The Best Truck I ever owned - 2004 Toyota Tundra

This is without a doubt the best truck I have ever owned. I have driven every model available and found the handling and power to be second to none. The interior is the only drawback. It could be more comfortable and could offer more features. The big thing to me is Toyota reliablity and resale value. I have owned Ford, Chevy and Dodge and the feel and power are beyound compare.

  • An outstanding truck - 2004 Toyota Tundra

This is my first true truck since switching over from owning nothing but chevies. I went with Toyota because of their reputation for reliabilty and havent been disappointed yet. My last vehicle was a 96 4WD blazer that would shred a tranny every 12000 miles. So far I have 22000 onthe tundra and it has performed flawlessly.

In my opinion it is the best all around truck for the average guy. Configuration is perfect for me,have compact truck needs but have 2 small children, kids fit comfortably & safely in rear seats, truck is big enough but not too large. Was a bit skeptical with the V6 but so far have been happy with performance. If you are one who hauls heavy loads or tows a trailer youll need to step up to V8, Has Smooth, quiet car-like ride, handles better than my Camry. Great for highway travel.

  • Can you say... DEPENDABILITY?! - 2004 Toyota Tundra
    By -

One word sums up WHY I bought the Tundra, DEPENDABILITY! This makes my 3rd Toyota truck! I still have #2 (a 95 Tacoma extended cab V6 4x4) which I use as a daily commuter. 122,428 miles and counting! Simply stated, I BELIEVE in the Toyota product! Don’t take my word for it. While you’re here at Edmunds, check out JD Powers assessment of the Tundra. Compared with Nissan’s Titan, the Tundra got higher marks for MECHANICAL QUALITY, FEATURE & ACCESSORY QUALITY, and BODY & INTERIOR QUALITY. Key word is QUALITY! That says volumes for me and MY money! Another MAJOR factor in buying the Tundra; the GOTTA HAVE IT factor! The Tundra MORE than satisfies here!

Have had the truck for two months. It has a great ride and the quality is pure Toyota. It is very comfortable and quiet on the highway. The V6 is more than enough power for everyday driving and the truck gets up to speed for merging onto the freeway with no trouble. I like the throaty exhaust sound, too. The only thing Im still trying to adjust to is finding, without concentrating, the clutch friction point for that smooth, minimum rev startup. I still stall the truck occassionally or need to give it more gas (compared to the 89 Jeep Cherokee and 2003 Honda Civic we have in the family). Becoming one with the truck is only a matter of time.

  • Best light truck available today! - 2004 Toyota Tundra

The best ride and gas mileage of all the "full size" trucks I tested. Manages to have a full size bed and an excellent backseat for my kids. Car like handling with the ability to haul the small loads I use for work. Nice build quality and a good stereo system. We love the rear sliding window, no buffeting even at speed. The sunroof is huge, and there enough drink holders for 6 people.

  • Good Everyday Commute Truck - 2004 Toyota Tundra
    By -

Purchased the model with bench seats. It has a fold down center console with plenty of storage space, xtra cup holders. Overall, a great everday truck to commute to work. The V6 has plenty of power for merging/passing on Hwy. I havent towed anything yet. The truck is comfortable and all interior gadgets are easily accessible. A couple of concerns: Dont leave a phone charger connected to the outlet, I experienced hessitation when starting the engine. Poorly designed back doors, they should open like front doors, design makes it difficult to get in and out. Lastly, the brake rotors warping. My 2004 is fine, but other owners 2000-2003 have many complaints
