This Year's Model Updates:

The four-door Double Cab joins the 2004 Toyota Tundra lineup. The Double Cab rides on an extended wheelbase of 140.5 inches, and features a cargo bed equal in length to the Access Cab's while gaining 3.5 inches of depth.

Pros:
  • Smooth and refined V8, Toyota build quality and reliability, easy maneuverability in urban areas, roomy Double Cab configuration.
Cons:
  • Lacks serious brawn for towing and hauling, uncomfortable front seats, cramped rear seat in Access Cab, chintzy interior trimmings.

  • driving performance - 2004 Toyota Tundra

purchased a new 04 d- cab w\ aftermarket perf. tires & wheels. The foot print of the tires is so great that the veh. follows the road surface and pulls you into the opposing lanes of traffic. Met with the dist. rep. regarding this matter and was advised there was nothing that could be done to resolve this matter. I was never advised by the salesman nor the manager of this issue with these tires, if I had been I would not have pur. the veh. due to my family using this veh. as a primary mode of transport.

Ive been a Chevy owner for the past five years...The Tundra is good for people who arent particular about space...I think the Chevy has more leg room...The Tundra is faster off the line than the Chevy, but I dont think Ill buy another Toyota...Not to mention the gas mileage is worse than in my Avalanche...and my Avalanche was 4WD, and my Tundra isnt...oh well, if you know anybody who wants to buy a Limited Tundra, Ill be selling my by January 04...

  • Is This The Best The Auto Industry Has? - 2004 Toyota Tundra

We purchased a new Toyota Tundra 4Dr. crew cab SR5 April 04. Pros: Very comfortable long distances and handles well on the freeways. And that is all I can say good about it. Cons: Under 1000 miles it started to howl at 45MPH, Toyota replaced the differential unit at 6000 miles but the howl remained unresolved. The EPA freeway is 18(16- 20). I have been lucky to get 15 MPG on near flat desert with cruise from gas station to gas station. Others have stated they get 19-21 in my area and some are 4x4s. We looked at all the crew trucks and read the reviews on them. We must say that the best in the industry has been disappointing. I expected better from Toyota, after all the testimonials.

  • Great light duty truck! - 2004 Toyota Tundra
    By -

I have a 2001; its done everything I asked, including pulling a travel trailer over the highest passes in Colorado. But the engine performance is still marginal, and gas mileage is hard to tolerate (16-18mpg). All in all, though, Ill most likely look at a new Tundra when the time comes for another truck. I dont believe the American manufacturers can match the overall quality and reliability of Toyota.
