This Year's Model Updates:

One of America's favorite cars is all new this year. Design goals for the 2002 Toyota Camry included larger interior packaging, reduced noise, more advanced safety features, better driving dynamics and, of course, a new standard of value.

Pros:
  • Roomy, powerful engines, plenty of safety and luxury features.
Cons:
  • High prices for XLE, costly premium features.

  • Buyer Beware - 2002 Toyota Camry

Beware of the "performance tires". They are not all season or snow tires. The tires do not perform well when the roads are just wet. My first set of tires only lasted to 14,000 miles. Major thread wear down the center of all 4 tires. The tire mfg,Toyo, replaced all but 1 tire. I called Toyota in CA. who basically told me that no, the tires werent designed for snow and ice conditions and if they had to replace every part they ever received a complaint about they would be out of business! Toyotas customer service motto should read, "Buyer Beware"

  • It Does What it is Supposed to Do - 2002 Toyota Camry

Our Camry has been utterly reliable. We like the attention that was given to seating height and overall comfort. Interior ergonomics is its strongest point. I dislike the marshmallow feel of the brakes, although they do seem to stop the car well enough. The exhaust pipe hangs far below the car, like that of an old school bus. I must be very careful on dirt roads with a raised center. I should not have to put up with the bulk and inefficiency of an SUV to drive rough country roads. Come on, Toyota, the world is not a California freeway.

The cars great. Never had any problem with any of my Toyotas. Step down from my 4-Runner, but its fun to drive. Great pick-up on freeway.

  • Great Car - wish the brakes were better - 2002 Toyota Camry

My 02 Camry LE 4cyl has been a great car. Fuel mileage is awesome, interior room is great, and the overall quality is tops. My big complaint is the brakes. They require a lot of pressure to operate them, and even though the stops, it feels weird. Ive heard that other owners have the same complaint.

  • Makes Me Feel Smart - 2002 Toyota Camry

While not the fanciest car Ive owned, it may be the smartest one. Does everything I need, looks good, is fun to challenge on a winding road.

this is my fourth toyota,1990,1992,1999 and now a 2002.my only complaint a thumping sound coming from the rear suspension on bumpy road.took it to two different dealers and they cannot find anything wrong with it.maybe they hear it,but dont know how to fix it. except for this problem everything else works like a charm after over a year of driving it.

  • better than expected - 2002 Toyota Camry

nice car, decent seats, smooth drive train, great on the highway. No complaints with the car so far,I purchased it with 7k on the odometer Ive put 26k on it so far with 2 trips down south. The original bridgestones wore out after 20k miles and were replaced with an all season kelly VR- 225/55 series tire. This made it handle way better although the ride is not as soft as before. The black paint and alloys still looks good,JBL premium system sounds good and over all the car is wearing well.Window tinting and the fat tires give it an agressive stance,it also gets a lot of stares. Someday Ill add leather seats,it also looks great next to my black Highlander. (No more GMs for me)

  • Dependable car - 2002 Toyota Camry

It is one of the best cars we have ever owned. LOVE the V6 interior very roomy. Like the seat control on drivers side. It allows my husband (who is 6 foot 5) fit in the car.

  • Camry very comfy - 2002 Toyota Camry

Very smooth riding car and quiet for this size and price range. Seats and roominess are very comfortable. Shifting is smooth, although acceleration for the 2.4L is not that great, but adequate nonetheless. AC works fine, although Toyota (as well as many other brands) has to get a clue about heating. As anybody knows, hot air rises; thus, put heating vents as low to the floor as possible. I find that no matter how hot and heavy I run the heater, my feet remain cold while my upper body burns up. Fortunately, I dont live in a really cold place like Minnesota.

Before this I owned a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Unfortunately I was involved in an accident and had to sell it, I bought this car and I love it so far. I bought it with 99,000 miles on it. Its just about to turn over 104,000 and I love everything about it. It drives like its a brand new car. The only problem with it is there is an exhaust leak somewhere. Its fun to drive and reliable. I plan to drive it through my college career and possibly get a Tundra after that. Great car!!!
