This Year's Model Updates:

One of America's favorite cars is all new this year. Design goals for the 2002 Toyota Camry included larger interior packaging, reduced noise, more advanced safety features, better driving dynamics and, of course, a new standard of value.

Pros:
  • Roomy, powerful engines, plenty of safety and luxury features.
Cons:
  • High prices for XLE, costly premium features.

This is our 3rd Toyota and this one will be the last one. We are very disappointed about the Toyota company. This car run well and smooth, but I think that the quality reputation of Toyota is over evaluated (specialy for the price of the supposed quality). After 58000Km the left rear brake pads were fully used but the right ones were half used (normal!? according the dealer, went elsewere for the repair of course) One security problem is the liquid washer nozzles are not adjustables and spray the liquid only at the bottom of the windshield, and specialy during the winter time that is very dangerous when you cant see in front of you (dealer replace them, no improvement) Motor oil consuption

  • Boring - 2002 Toyota Camry

I would have bought a Camry, test drove one but got the Nissan Maxima GLE instead. I just stopped by this site to read Camry owner reviews. Boring reviews, no one is that excited about anything with the car. Must be a boring car to get boring reviews. Check the Maxima reviews. Now that is one group of excited and impressed owners. Glad to say thatI am part of that group.

  • Excellent Car - 2002 Toyota Camry

Couldnt be more boring, at a stop light you could be surrounded by 3 more of the same color as yours. But who cares. Its the best car I have ever owned. Drove it for over 7 years and it never failed me once. Went through brakes frequently and OEM tires failed at 25k. Stereo was great. Everything always worked all the time. Never had a single repair only maintenance. It had 111k, miles when I sold it for 7k in 09. Wanted a Sienna. It was fine but I should have held onto the Camry. Got great gas mileage. 28 in the city. Its nice that it doesnt have a timing belt, only a chain so no need for that service. Will be hunting for one with side airbags next time.

  • Big Disappointment - 2002 Toyota Camry

I traded a 97 XLE for the fully loaded 02 XLE V6. From the biginning the car started having integrity problems, it rattles and clicks, the curtain air bag cover on the driver side is loose and now after just two months the side molding is getting unglued. Time for a third trip to the dealer, what a shame. The 97 XLE was perfect, no problems for five years.

  • Great Car - 2002 Toyota Camry

Bought new and so far no major repairs. Brake problems when new but they replaced the master cylinder. Regular oil changes with synth., change transmission fluid every 30 K (whats in the pan). Otherwise, spark plugs once, and front pads at 114K.

  • Good Reliable Car - 2002 Toyota Camry

This car is very reliable and has great gas mileage. My average has been close to 28-30 miles and on long road trips about 31-32. Its not the most exciting to drive but it is reliable and very low maintenance.

  • I would not buy it again - 2002 Toyota Camry
    By -

I bought this car for my wife to drive. She and my 2 kids really like it. Whenever I drive it on weekends and trips I cannot help but notice the poor handling and poor braking. This car handles like a buick. The car leans on almost turn. The brakes are very soft. You foot almost goes down to the floor when stopping. Also the driver side door handle broke off the first week we had the car and we had to wait three weeks before they could get the part in. The automatic drivers seat also slides during driving.

  • BEST FOR THE MONEY! - 2002 Toyota Camry
    By -

I noticed someones comment about the fact that 2002 Camry does not have auto headlights. Well, its does, but not like before that wehen you open the driver side door, the lights go off. Now what happens is when you exit out of the car, about 30 sec later the lights will turn off automatically. So in fact they do!!!

  • Replace the transmission after 75 miles! - 2002 Toyota Camry
    By -

Entire transmission was replaced (US$8500) after 75 miles drive. Luckly it is covered under warranty. Customer service from both Longo Toyota and Toyota itself are not helpful at all on dealing with this kind issue. All they could told you is that they feel sorry for you!!! The lemon law( in Califonia) is not going to help you unless there are two major repairs in the first year! So, buyer be aware, toyota is not a bad car but you still get "defect" car.

  • buy one if you are not a racer - 2002 Toyota Camry

I recommend to buy one - but it is not very fun to drive. BUY ONE if you are not a racer.
