Overview & Reviews
One of America's favorite cars is all new this year. Design goals for the 2002 Toyota Camry included larger interior packaging, reduced noise, more advanced safety features, better driving dynamics and, of course, a new standard of value.
- Roomy, powerful engines, plenty of safety and luxury features.
- High prices for XLE, costly premium features.

Interior styling????? - 2002 Toyota Camry
By juzepp - June 6 - 10:00 amThis is my first Toyota and and I really like this car! One thing really irks me though. The ugly dash! Ive always preferred "waterfall" type cockpits. Look at an Olds Aurora and youll see what a dash should look like! And whats with the open bins? They look SO cheap! Cant Toyota put a hinged door on it???

Spacious and functional - 2002 Toyota Camry
By 808blue - April 13 - 9:00 amLets face it, the Camry is not a Ferrari. Its a reliable, functional sedan. I bought this car with 118k miles, now passing 122K and overall Im happy. I can fit a 9 foot long board in the back with the seats down, and tote my 3 dogs around in it everywhere. Its pretty vanilla, I definitely dont turn any heads driving it, but 5 people can fit in there comfortably. I currently have a catalytic systems issue which has a check engine light on, and causes the car to lose some power. Otherwise its very reliable.

Nice but noisy - 2002 Toyota Camry
By larry s - February 3 - 10:00 amExtremely loud road noise emanating from tires and through windows. Much louder than my 1999 Camry. Toyota says there is nothing they can do about it. Seems it is just part of the design. Transmission has been re-tuned causing sharp down shifts.

"klonk" noise - 2002 Toyota Camry
By Mary Jones - January 29 - 10:00 amWhen putting car in reverse and then going forward there is a "klonk" noise. Was told this was normal and nothing could be done to change it. It is very annoying and friends have asked what was causing the noise.

Inexpensive japanese sedan - 2002 Toyota Camry
By SD Rider - January 27 - 8:33 amFeels like Im riding a luxury car. Stock audio system okay. Excellent gas mileage. I get about 27 mpg... very good for a sedan. Got the rare manual transmission. Effortless shifting. Had to buy V-rated performance tires. No problems with engine or electronics.

Danger Beware! - 2002 Toyota Camry
By What Next? - January 16 - 2:00 amWe loved this car when we purchased it. However, at 4,000 miles, the starter/engine caught fire. Toyota has not notified any of you as to this problem, have they? We are on the third set of rotors and brake pads and are also experiencing all the rattles, etc. We have had it tied up for 23+ days in just under a year. Have been to arbitration but no accountability by Toyota. Per Toyota, "Thats what the extended warranty is for." Toyota couldnt possibly have any lemons?!?

It works for me! - 2002 Toyota Camry
By Sparkly Kelsey - December 14 - 8:56 pmBought the car new and its never been in the shop, with over 77,000 miles on it, and I am a lousy driver and a rotten caretaker re: maintenance. This is my fourth Toyota and will stick with them forever. Got the base model and got every feature I wanted. Its pretty too. Still looks like new except where Ive banged it up hitting mailboxes, etc.!

One fine car - 2002 Toyota Camry
By danrieke - December 10 - 10:36 amIve got almost 92,000 miles on my 2002 Camry LE. I purchased it used with around 38,000 miles. This was a good decision! I like the crisp power in entering traffic and passing on the freeway. Fuel economy is very good. I get about 31 mpg when pushing 80 on the freeways. It doesnt move around much on windy days. Brakes feel a bit spongy compared to some cars but the vehicle stops very well and with the anti-lock brakes I can get on it hard and it stops true! I change oils (transmission oil, too) and filters. If you want to keep a strong flow from the fan (heating or cooling), it helps to change the filter directly in back of the glove box. Will this car go 250,000 miles? I may find out!
