  • So Far So Good - 2004 Toyota 4Runner

Just brought our 4Runner home a short while ago but the test drives and initial week or two of driving have been impressive. Went to buy a Mercedes ML430 or similar upscale vehicle but resale values, reliablility ratings, and features for the dollar made the 4Runner the best deal.

Best value for the money. I bought the base model 4wd SR5 which comes with a full line of standard options. I added leather and still walked out under 28,000. I couldnt see spending 7000 for the limited upgrades.

I bought mine in Nov 2002, one of the first ones. Have done 20000 miles already and a number of off road trails. Very capable on and off road. Comfy, although some headroom and rear foot room would help, Im 63". Great ride and great engine and transmission combo. Very solid and reliable. Had minor issues which was resolved, believe it is now resolved with later vehicles. Vehicle is great, dealer support lacking compared to BMW and Volvo which we had before. I want to see how all these fancy SUVs (VW, Porsche??, MBZ, BMW, etc) hold up after being really used off road. Explorer, etc does not even compare.

2004 low tire pressure indicator came on. Pressures checked 34-35 lbs. Called dealer service department. Following his directions, the indicator did NOT reset. The owners manual says system checks spare tire as well as the others. Another Toyota dealer said this was the 2nd 2004 4Runner they had seen with this problem. Explanation: tires are aired to 60 lbs. at the factory. Dealer make ready did NOT check the spare. The low tire pressure system also checks for HIGH tire pressure and/or pressure difference between the tires. To reset the indicator, hit the ODO/TRIP button until the mileage indicates, then hit RESET.

  • Ugly, but Great Quality. - 2004 Toyota 4Runner

Totally wonderful SUV that, in Toyota fashion, lacks styling cues. The V-8 is nice for smooth power, but I wouldnt have done that again considering the upfront $$$ and typical 18 MPG ( poor ) fuel rating.

Excellent, reliable, beautiful, head turner! Purchased used at a GREAT price from a REPUTABLE Honda Priority Dealer. VERY HAPPY! I own a 95 truck, 01 van and 04 4Runner. All cars take a beating from me-lived in mountains. Trust me, buy Toyota - is RELIABLE!

  • I LOVE my 4Runner! - 2004 Toyota 4Runner

Our 4-Runner is the BEST vehicle we have ever owned. I am so sorry to see the lot full of 2008 runners with a 6 instead of a V-8. The V-8 is why we bought one with AWD. The Gas mileage is NOT significant between the 6 and the 8. We are active so this SUV really suits us. I could NEVER drive a dinky smart car or anything remotely like those... I am used to feeling safe in my runner.

Well, even though it is time to trade in, I loved my 4runner. I would keep it forever, but the trade in is too much money to trade in our other car. This car is amazing! I bought it new, and its ride is amazing! The design is literally awesome, and I really like the reliability. I am not too fond of the fuel economy (about 16 and 20, city-highway), but who doesnt expect that or worse for an SUV. I recommend getting one with a third seat!

Just Purchased 2004 4Runner and it is my first Toyota and it was by far my best investment. The ride and reliability in a SUV cannot be beat.
