This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, all Imprezas sport revised front and rear fascias -- gone are the oddball circular headlamps in favor of a more mainstream wedge-shaped design. In addition, all models get upgraded suspension struts (to improve ride quality and steering response), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, a collapsible pedal system, revised gauges and a new stereo faceplate. The WRX and Outback Sport receive projector beam foglights. Inside, WRX models have new sport seats, a central tachometer and darker gray faux metal accents. The TS wagon, Outback Sport and RS sedan add an in-glass antenna, active front head restraints, central power door lock switch and multireflector halogen headlights. Further, the TS now has four-wheel disc brakes. The RS sedan's keyless entry system now has an audible confirmation feature, and keyless entry is now standard on the TS. Finally, the WRX sedan is now available with a Premium Package that includes a sunroof, trunk spoiler, heated mirrors, heated front seats and a wiper de-icer.

Pros:
  • A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel-drive grip, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from, fun to drive.
Cons:
  • Often pricey when compared to its competition, tight rear quarters.

  • Turbocharged Monster! - 2004 Subaru Impreza

This car is a true drivers car. Acceleration, handling and brakes are racecar like. A few basic mods will turn this car into a beast. Will get you in trouble with the law if not careful. You will want to stab the throttle every time you step on the gas. I test drove the 04 M3, 06 Vette and was not impressed. I wanted to jump back in my Suby! No need to spend $50k. DCCD is a plus. Behaves like a RWD when you want it to. You HAVE to launch this car! It takes off like a rocket!

  • Best car for the money - 2004 Subaru Impreza

I bought this car to replace my 98 GTi VR6. I have been pleased with the car so far except that the engine light came on before the car hit 500 miles. Dealership says that its an O2 sensor, and its getting replaced tomorrow. Subaru has a great customer satisfaction rating.

  • Silver Outback Sport, Take 2! - 2004 Subaru Impreza

After selling my 02 Outback Sport a year and a half ago, I finally made it back into the Subaru fold with the purchase of the 04 model. Both times I have been satisfied with my purchase. I miss the "bug-eyed" headlights and foglights from the 02, but everything else is pretty much aesthetically the same. I love the confidence I feel. I remember on a snowboarding trip in 03 being waved on by the Rangers at Big Bear Mtn. while everyone else was forced over to apply snow chains. HA! Subaru? No chains needed. Just drive. Whenever. Wherever.

  • Good Car, could be great - 2004 Subaru Impreza

I love this car for its all around utility, performance and price. I am a little disaapointed in some of the build quiality but I knew this going into it as many others have complained of thin paint, thin windshields, and build quality just slightly better than a Dodge. My biggest concern is the CEL that has now come on twice and I have only driven the car 125 miles! Loose fuel caps can cause this thing to light up?! Sounds like SOA needs to redesign that. I love the car though even though it is quirky

  • Performance for the rest of us - 2004 Subaru Impreza

The STi is by far the most performance value for your dollar. At roughly $100/horsepower, you will be challenged to find something else that competes (with the exception of the Mitsubishi EVO). This car is by far the most fun to drive of any turbocharged car Ive owned. Running out of corners in 2nd gear with the All Wheel Drive will put a huge grin on your face every single time you do it. There are other performance cars out there such as the Nissan 350Z that are close. But the STi offers a standard cart-your-friends around 4-door (I carry both my kids car seats in mine) that you dont get with most sports cars. Bottom line is this car is a blast to drive, and is affordable.

  • WRX good - 2004 Subaru Impreza

I bought an 04 WRX soon after they came onto the market. I must say it is an excellent car. And if you know how to drive, the auto version is just as fast as the manual version.

  • Fun to drive - 2004 Subaru Impreza

This has to be the most fun Ive ever had driving. Its quick, sharp and loves to go.

  • WRX: believe the hype - 2004 Subaru Impreza

227 HP is more horsepower than a 1990 Mustang GT. All wheel drive means you get to use all of it too. Its outstanding in the snow, and a blast to drive. It will go faster than 95% of the population wants to go, period. It has a nice lumpy cam, and performance parts abound to allow you to personalize it. I think it might be the best performance bargain out there. If you dont like OPEC, buy an Acura RSX. But if you dont mind 20 mpg, live in the snowbelt, and want anonymous high zoot, reliable performance, go get one.

  • My Colorado Car - 2004 Subaru Impreza
    By -

After moving to Colorado recently, I parted with my 2002 Jeep Wrangler to seek a more cost-efficient source of transportation that would also do well in the Rockies. After driving SUVs over the past ten years, I settled on my first "car" in a decade. It was a Subaru Outback Sport Wagon, and I drove it for a year and loved it. It carried my dog , bikes, snowboards, and camping gear all year with aplomb in all manner of weather. A raise in my salary coincided with a WRX test drive, and back I went to the dealership. What I got was the same, solid Subaru Boxer- powered vehicle with 25%+ more power, and incredible handling. Fantastic car!
