This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, all Imprezas sport revised front and rear fascias -- gone are the oddball circular headlamps in favor of a more mainstream wedge-shaped design. In addition, all models get upgraded suspension struts (to improve ride quality and steering response), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, a collapsible pedal system, revised gauges and a new stereo faceplate. The WRX and Outback Sport receive projector beam foglights. Inside, WRX models have new sport seats, a central tachometer and darker gray faux metal accents. The TS wagon, Outback Sport and RS sedan add an in-glass antenna, active front head restraints, central power door lock switch and multireflector halogen headlights. Further, the TS now has four-wheel disc brakes. The RS sedan's keyless entry system now has an audible confirmation feature, and keyless entry is now standard on the TS. Finally, the WRX sedan is now available with a Premium Package that includes a sunroof, trunk spoiler, heated mirrors, heated front seats and a wiper de-icer.

Pros:
  • A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel-drive grip, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from, fun to drive.
Cons:
  • Often pricey when compared to its competition, tight rear quarters.

  • Great car, but room for improvement - 2004 Subaru Impreza
    By -

My experience with my 03 2.5 TS has been great. I have upgraded my OEM 15s to 2002 stock wrx 16s. The impact, although minor, has been great. lighter/tighter feel. will be upgrading to a cobb exhaust soon.. My issues are, the crappy stock cd player they give you. ive already had to replace my first one under warranty. the second one is better but it still has issues with playing burned cds. and the sound at interstate speeds is a little loud. kind of light body frame as well, not safe feeling.

Owned several high performance cars. The STi is the most practical. However it does not have the same quality build/fit and finish as the german and other japanese products.

  • Impreza a good little hatchback wagon - 2004 Subaru Impreza

My first foreign car purchase. Ive never had 4 wheel drive before either. So the Impreza was an all-around new experience. A good experience so far. Looked at the Matrix/Vibe, loved them but for a lower price got a loaded Impreza TS Wagon in AWD. Also looked at the PT Cruiser.. great storage space but performance, lack of AWD and very poor gas mileage. All in all very happy.

  • Excellent Car but needs improvement - 2004 Subaru Impreza

The car handles very well on snow and ice. Car handles beautifully in winter blizzard going 70 MPH on a very dangerous road. On the bad side fuel economy can be better. On average I get 21 MPG which is poor considering vehicle’s size and weight and that is has 4 cylinders. The design can definitely be improved. Subaru has a lot to learn from German automakers. It is comfortable for a driver but passenger seat and the back seats are very cramped and there definitely is a need for a cup holder or two for the back seat passengers. Mirror and wiper defrost are a must for a car that was meant to handle cold weather well.

  • Excellent car for this price - 2004 Subaru Impreza

Good horsepower, decent acceleration, excellent handling, spacious interior, fun and sporty looks makes it a good choice for anything under 20k. Go for the silver exterior color.

  • Hot Subaru - 2004 Subaru Impreza

This is the most fun Ive had driving since my college club racing days of driving Porsche Speedsters. Living in the Rocky mountains I cant think of a better car-snow,sleet,ice,rain and curvy roads. But you have to stay alert to drive this car.Due to the high torque and quick acceleration you have to judge road conditions before you stomp on it.

  • Lovin it - 2004 Subaru Impreza

I got the OBS for AWD, performance, and price. The car is a blast to drive, even during break in (sub 4k rpm), has enough power to handle my daily driving, and plenty of cargo space for my recent move. It has great handling in snow and slush. I dont know why people complain about the stereo, maybe they shouldnt compare their old after market stereos to stock? Overall a great car with only a few improvements (see below).

  • I miss my WRX - 2004 Subaru Impreza

I really miss how fun the wrx was to drive and how it handled so well! This is the best bang for your buck if you enjoy having fun when you drive for an affordable cost. Ive driven the G35 and 350Z and I like how this one handles and the control I had over it better. It was super easy to drive, parallel park, zoom in and out of traffic, change lanes, etc. I just thought it was time to get something more mature looking since I wear heels and skirts m-f. Another downer was the 91 gas because the turbo and the 20 mpg for such a little car.

Ive owned my 04 sti for about a year and have been pleased! Good everyday car, avg 20 mpg. Lowered so bumpy but drives like a dream. My water pump went out resulting in overheating, resulting in a header job at about 100k mi so keep an eye out for that. Had I caught the overheat before I did, she coulda been spared the trama. The good news, I have an xs exaust and wow, the sound! Ive taken down (in speed and sound) many a mustang gt, gto, RTcharger and many v8 trucks with all kinds of loud exhausts. The sound isnt a cheap "bumble bee in a can" sound, its a full "Im eating your soul" sound. I even put it up to a 1976 stingray (vet) I won, mutually.

THIS SUBARU IS NOTHING LIKE THE ONES OF THE PAST. IT IS AN EXCELLENT EXAMPLE OF A REAL SPORTS/RACE DRIVEN MACHINE. I HAVE NOTHING BUT GOOD THINGS TO SAY ABOUT THIS LITTLE CAR. ILL MOST LIKELY STICK WITH THIS CAR COMPANY FOR THE DURATION...
