This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, all Imprezas sport revised front and rear fascias -- gone are the oddball circular headlamps in favor of a more mainstream wedge-shaped design. In addition, all models get upgraded suspension struts (to improve ride quality and steering response), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, a collapsible pedal system, revised gauges and a new stereo faceplate. The WRX and Outback Sport receive projector beam foglights. Inside, WRX models have new sport seats, a central tachometer and darker gray faux metal accents. The TS wagon, Outback Sport and RS sedan add an in-glass antenna, active front head restraints, central power door lock switch and multireflector halogen headlights. Further, the TS now has four-wheel disc brakes. The RS sedan's keyless entry system now has an audible confirmation feature, and keyless entry is now standard on the TS. Finally, the WRX sedan is now available with a Premium Package that includes a sunroof, trunk spoiler, heated mirrors, heated front seats and a wiper de-icer.

Pros:
  • A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel-drive grip, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from, fun to drive.
Cons:
  • Often pricey when compared to its competition, tight rear quarters.

  • this thing rocks...performance-wise - 2004 Subaru Impreza

i heard a lot about this car, and knowing plenty of friends who own one, this thing is on rails... subaru also got the styling right this time, instead of the bug-eyed lights...my only concern is build quality..lets just hope that its built as well as it handles

Subaru got everything right on the STi! Look at the performance features: 300HP/300ft-lbs TQ, Short-throw 6-Spd, dual LSDs, DCCD System, Brembos, BBSs...the list goes on. The STis "fun-factor" is phenomenal. It is difficult to find a true flaw with this car. Ive had the opportunity to now drive mine in snow, in which it did not disappoint (clad in all season tires).

Fantastic commuter car, long haul car or even light off road weekend fun.

Apart from the boy racer looks (when will they get rid of the basket handle and give us a tasteful wing?), this is a fantastic car.

  • Love it - 2004 Subaru Impreza

I bought a 2004 WRX SportWagon at the end of August of 03. In a few months Ive already put nearly 8,000 miles on the car. Ive not had a single problem with it to date. The performance is very good. The handling (stock tires and suspension) could be improved upon, but is by no means disappointing. I got the wagon for its cargo hauling ability and have not once regretted the choice. I would buy this vehicle again without hesitation.

  • Subaru is a Total Disappointment - 2004 Subaru Impreza

Although I love this car, the biggest problem has been with the dealer and Subaru. I had a synchronizer problem develop, and took it in for repair. I was told that the transmission needed to be rebuilt due to "driver abuse", and that it would cost $2,900. After going back & forth, including talk of legal action, Subaru repaired the transmission free of charge, but said it was only a "gesture of good will", and not a warranty repair. Now, after only 25,000 miles, the clutch is slipping. I am not an abusive driver, I have never raced the car. I am 60 years old, and I have never had a problem with any manufacturer until Subaru.

  • Solid at speed - 2004 Subaru Impreza

Have an 04 WRX auto. Very fast and rock solid at speed. Replaced oem tires with Firestone SZ50 - big improvement in handling and looks. Seats look good and hold you in, but not that comfortable for long trips. Some minor problems including annoying dash rattle.Overall build quality could be better. Premium stereo still sounds tinny.

The 2004 WRX wagon is fun to drive and gives you some great features (AWD, ABS, Turbo, and 227hp). The other cars in this market included the 325xi and Audi Quattro A4 wagon. I looked at the WRX while on my way to the BMW & Audi dealerships just out of curoisity

  • Fun sports car yet fuel efficient - 2004 Subaru Impreza

I have had my WRX for over 3 years now. I almost bought an 04 Mazda 6 instead but after driving each of them, I couldnt get the performance of the Subie out of my head. It is just too much fun to drive. The turbo is a different kind of fast, but the car is undeniably fast. If you are a "muscle car" person who thrives on low end torque, you wont like this car. The WRX is grippy and slow off the line and the power explodes at 3K RPM all the way to redline. Second gear is amazing. If you behave and drive nicely, you can get close to 30 MPG. The trunk is usable. I even have a child seat in the backseat. The car is a 5 star safety rated vehicle. Lots of great features.
