This Year's Model Updates:

As the Impreza was redesigned just last year, not much changes for 2003. Convenience has been improved; keyless entry is now standard equipment on the 2.5 RS, TS Sport Wagon and Outback Sport. For the WRX, Subaru will offer a standard rear spoiler on the sedan (though you can still get the car without, if you want) and Sonic Yellow is available as an exclusive WRX color.

Pros:
  • A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel-drive grip, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from.
Cons:
  • Often pricey when compared to its competition.

Its a nice car. Stock out of the box it has more perfomance than most. AWD is a definite plus especially if you have changing seasons. From what I have learned from my friends older Imprezas, most of them arent holding up for much longer than 80k miles. But some of my friends dont take care of their cars like they should. The car is shorter than most sedans, but thats what gives it the mobility that it has. I feel bad for the people in the back seat; there isnt a lot of room, but I never have to be back there! A few weird things: Gears are straight cut (shifting isnt as smooth as most); I get a weird hum at 60MPH (Subaru doesnt know what it is); and coolant -- you go through it like crazy, due to turbos.

Now that the STI is on the horizon, I am only slightly tempted. The stock WRX delivers more than adequate performance. In 14K miles, Ive had no problems and my only critiques are slight quibbles about lack of outside thermometer, lack of heated seats, leather upholstery, and other things that really are secondary. For the money, the quality and performance of the WRX are unmatched, especially for those of us who do alot of winter driving.

I drive in Western Europe each year and really have grown to enjoy the strong little 5 speed rentals and the twisty back roads there. My work here in the US now has me commuting 75 miles round trip on country roads each day so I went looking for the best handling / performing rig I could find for under $20,000. There are some great cars (Jettas/ Civics / Focus) but the new Subaru 2.5 L. Sport Wagon is way ahead of the others in speed and handling. It is precise and smooth through the hard corners and the power is such that shifting down is minimized ... quick and easy. The all wheel drive is just fantastic when the road gets greezy ... makes it very safe.

The car is awesome, you cant really ask for more, but I do not like the fuel economy. I am only averaging about 17mpg and 20mpg on highway. Other than that there is nothing to complain about, you will be satisfied.

This car lives and breathes for performance. if you want to have the best performing car for under $40,000 this is your car. You will have people wondering how can this car drive the way it does for only $25k. throw another $3,000 into it and youll need a porsche to play with the WRX. The car was designed and perfected for one purpose to demolish the competition in performance and let me tell you they passed the test!

Trixie has gotten me through 2 bad breakups and many famous NY winters, and Im still in love. I picked her up on 11/18/78 (happy birthday to me) and have never regretted it. The fuel economy is great, 29hwy with a K&N filter. The turbo lag is perfect for tame suburban driving, then you can let the ponies run on the country roads. Like all, I wish it was a little more posh, but it is what is, a Rally Cars little Bro. Speaking of rallying, the car handles wonderfully on dirt and washboard roads. All in all, a wonderful car and a terrific buy for under $25K. 0-60 in sub 6, and almost 30mpg hwy. What else do you want?!
