This Year's Model Updates:

As the Impreza was redesigned just last year, not much changes for 2003. Convenience has been improved; keyless entry is now standard equipment on the 2.5 RS, TS Sport Wagon and Outback Sport. For the WRX, Subaru will offer a standard rear spoiler on the sedan (though you can still get the car without, if you want) and Sonic Yellow is available as an exclusive WRX color.

Pros:
  • A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel-drive grip, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from.
Cons:
  • Often pricey when compared to its competition.

This is a fun car. The engine seems more responsive and quicker than my V6 mustang. I would only buy the manual trans though. I really thought I might be missing out if I didnt get the WRX but I dont think so. I saved myself about 6 grand and who knows how much in insurance! Also, I like the fact that you dont see these cars everywhere you go.

I work with a ton of car buffs who sport around in their 50k porsches or other sports cars. Not all of them appreciate the car design but they all have the same reaction when I drop the clutch at about 3500 RPMs...Holy S!*#!!. If you want a luxury "sports" car look somewhere else. If you want a car that drives like a gokart on steroids this is your ride. With the popularity of the car there are a wide range of modifications coming online for those who want to take the next step in performance.

  • WRX like a charm - 2003 Subaru Impreza

Purchased this car 10/30/01 and Im approaching 14K miles. Impressive 0-60 power; it will smoke stock Mustang GTs off the line. Huge public appeal; I even got a thumbs-up from a Harley- Davidson biker (complete with 2 ft. beard). Fun to drive on all-surfaces. Complaints: The shifter and the interior plastic (a few rattles have emerged) could be a little tighter. I have the stock premium sound system including the under-the-seat sub and it longs for more power. Also the volume selector is coarse, there are huge differences between some increments. Overall, only minor gripes - I would recommend this car over and over again!

This vehicle is just flat out fantastic. With superb handling, terrific acceleration, and, of course, AWD for under $26,000, this car is indeed quite a steal. I cant express just how much fun this car is to drive...take one for a test drive and see for yourself. Mine goes through a lot, being that I drive to work everyday (about 50 miles a day) plus trips to Vermont in harsh snowy weather...this car is a real king in any condition. It has multiple personality disorder...on one side is a docile sedan. On the other is a fierce street legal rallycar. Gotta love it.

  • When Lease Over, Will Get Another - 2003 Subaru Impreza

In March 2001, I leased one of the first WRX in the U.S. and am very pleased after two years of driving it. It can outrun, out accelerate, and outcorner anything but the Porsche 911s or BMW M series on dry roads and outdo anything on rainy or snowy roads. Yet police never notice it (particularly my low-key black WRX wagon). Ive got another year left on the lease, but am already planning to lease a newer WRX.

I have been a VW fan for the last 15 years, at one time saying I would never buy anything else. That was until my 96 Jetta GLS. To say I was disappointed with it is an understatement. While looking for a replacement for that car, something fun like VWs without the problems, I started looking at the WRX wagon. I needed a wagon and 4 doors, otherwise I may have ended up with a GTi. I took the WRX for a test drive, and that is all it took. This car is pure joy to drive! I had to get one, and I did. I have been driving it now for six months, and I still love it. I still look for reasons to take it out and I am still volunteering to drive my friends to and from the airport. I love it!

car handles all the corners and twisties you want to give it for a vehicle in this price range. A little quick to shift from 1st to 2nd. ride is good on highway; not quite as good on our rough city roads in Toronto. I bought winter tires which make this car very impressive when it gets snowy or icy. Very fun to drive and surprises a few people from the lights.

  • Great car for the money - 2003 Subaru Impreza

This is one zippy car for the price. I did replace the factory tires with Yokahamas, but it is stock otherwise. Good seats, interior is fine, standard package is loaded. Handling is great, with the ability to get rid of the understeer by accelerating through the corners. The 4 wheel drive is the key. Minor complaints are the somewhat mushy shifter and gas mileage is only about 22mpg (with premium fuel). I bought it because it was about the only car that both Car and Driver(a great drivers car) and Consumer Reports(reliability) liked. And its a lot cheaper than an Audi Quattro.

Just bought it and it kicks ass. Love the look, color and performance. Beware when you get one that people want to race you all the time.

  • Mixed Thoughts - 2003 Subaru Impreza

I like the car alot but I guess I expected more refinement. The transmission at time sounds clunky but the handling and surge of power when the turbo kicks in makes me forget the shortcomings I find. Overall I would probably do it again but from a 4 cylinder, 23 miles a gallon is the best you are going to get
