This Year's Model Updates:

As the Impreza was redesigned just last year, not much changes for 2003. Convenience has been improved; keyless entry is now standard equipment on the 2.5 RS, TS Sport Wagon and Outback Sport. For the WRX, Subaru will offer a standard rear spoiler on the sedan (though you can still get the car without, if you want) and Sonic Yellow is available as an exclusive WRX color.

Pros:
  • A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel-drive grip, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from.
Cons:
  • Often pricey when compared to its competition.

I totaled my 99, but it saved my life. I had reservations about another one because it was VERY noisy, the shift linkage was awful and the clutch worked best parked. There were a lot of ignition problems, and the rear brakes were drums. But having two dogs, always had manual transmission, and not wanting to be sitting high off of the ground left me few choices. I ended up with a 2003 with 18,500 miles on it for $13,800. I love it! Subaru addressed every issue but the rear brakes (sigh). It is quiet, no hood scoop, more power, and the best shift linkage I have driven yet. It feels like a Legacy.

WRX sedan has no real world competition (price related). Performance numbers = $40-50k German sedans. The "feel" is exceptional. Like nothing you have ever driven, unless you have driven M3s. That is only thing that comes close in my experience. Everyone admits, the sheet metal and interior are not as sexy as the German big brothers, but you get passed that when you hit the throttle (in a hurry!). The car will do anything you can throw at it.

This car has been very fun to drive. The cost is reasonable, for performance, though i feel that some of the options leave much to be desired. Couldnt ask for better performance in the rough michigan winters.

This car is such a fun car to zip around in. The performance and style is incredible for only being a four cylander. The car can rip around corners and the seats wont let you move an inch. I will never think about another car as long as the wrx is around.

This car has been amazing over the last two years. It is fun to drive yet inexpensive and comfortable. I could not recommend a better car for its price range and even above its price range. You can truly open it up and let it fly.

what a fun handling car, one of the best ever, just a same they dont back it up with a better box/interior and exterior looks. thought they would grow on me but they never did, even the new model falls short in the looks department tho a little better.

I wanted a sporty, fun-to-drive car. My wife wanted a safe and reliable car. The Impreza fit the bill at a price we could afford. Unfortunately, I had to give in and get the automatic.

  • Best bang for the buck - 2003 Subaru Impreza

my wife wanted for me to get the 350Z, but I can think of many other ways to spend $8-12k to get the same performance. Granted the bug eye looks arent that great and the new EVO is supposed to be overall a great performer, but this Subaru has great reliability and status. Its amazing fun to drive (2 speeding tickets in the first 6 months). Worth every penny!

  • Best Car.....Ever. - 2003 Subaru Impreza

I traded my 99 Ford Explorer for this car, b/c after having 22 problems in 2 years w/ my Ford, I was ready for something reliable (Problem #22 was a new transmission). I have had absolutely no problems w/ this car. As long as nothing catastrophic happens, I may never buy anything but a Subaru again. Bang for the buck, you cannot beat this car. It is a blast to drive. My only complaint is the excessive wind noise over 100 mph....but, I, uh, dont know how to explain this to my dealer.
