This Year's Model Updates:

Subaru completely redesigns the Impreza and brings a high-performance turbocharged WRX variant into the fold to offer enthusiasts the opportunity to drive a powerful, all-wheel-drive sport sedan without breaking the bank. All Imprezas benefit from improvements in performance, refinement and safety. Along with the Impreza's trip upmarket come revised trim levels consisting of two sedans (WRX and 2.5 RS) and three wagons (WRX, Outback Sport and 2.5 TS Sport Wagon). The coupe body style has been dropped.

Pros:
  • A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel drive, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from.
Cons:
  • No more coupe, extroverted styling may be too much for some.

One word sums up the way I feel about this car, "awesome". This is truly a drivers car, you have to understand how to drive a car of this stature to truly appreciate its abilities. The car does have its drawbacks though, the interior seems cheap, but it is well laid out. Subaru seems to invest the majority of your $25,000 into the powertrain, and the suspension. I really like the ability to spin the tail end of this car around when flying through hairpin offroad turns. Subaru claims to have designed the AWD and the balance of this car for that purpose. You cannot understand what a great suspension this car has when only driving on the paved roads, go offroad to see why this car was built.

If you live in places with twisty roads, bad weather and few stop signs, this is probably the best car for the money. That said, if most of your driving is done in stop-and go city conditions, look elsewhere. The WRX has only two modes: its a dog below 3000 RPM, and a rocket above it. The shifter also wont downshift from 2nd to 1st unless the car is at a dead stop. City driving is downright annoying.

Ive had so much fun with this vehicle- my previous car was an 2001 Integra Type-R. Although I did love my Type-R, the WRX has the same fun factor and I can take my friends along. I have been driving it hard over the past year and Im still giddy every time I go for a drive.

Reasearched for months, test drove 4x before buying. And am I pleased AWD,acceleration, cornering, and ride are fantastic for a wagon.Great seats, driver position.Good gas milage of 20 to high 20s depending on how driven.Excellent safety rating.Have been in 6 in. of snow and ice leaving all behind.Gear box notchy at first, but smoothes out nicely.Handles canyon twisties, elavation gains like sports cars.Ride is firm and steering is very responsive.Best car I have owned!Love my Subie!!!!

This is not the fastest car Ive owned, but it certainly does most things well. Build quality is excellent, my only problem in 10,000 miles was a cracked windshield. Gas mileage is ok at an average of 24mpg mixed city/highway. The ride is firm but supple and this car swallows up potholes and ridges with aplomb, unlike most sports cars Ive owned. Grip is limited with stock tires but still outcorners most other cars, in the wet, its superb!

  • Great Car! I would buy another anytime! - 2002 Subaru Impreza

Ive owned a WRX for one year now and Ive put 30,000 trouble free miles on this machine. This car is a blast to drive and handles like a dream. Only negative is the seat comfort - little skimpy on the padding, I see Subaru changed that for the 2004 models. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone looking for a sporty sedan! With 4- doors even - easy to sell this car as a family car and give dad a good time when by himself :)

I ordered my WRX from the dealership in 2000 when I first read it would be imported to the states. I have loved driving it for the last eight years, this coming form a former mustang owner. Wasnt quite as fast in a straight line but did everything else well. After owning this car I will NEVER buy a new model in the first year. The windows squeak, paint is too thin, had the defective fuel rail system replaced (twice) and the engine blew at 119K. Still have no idea why. Salvage long block set me back $5500 installed. Now the A/C compressor is about to go. Most of the bugs were worked out by the middle of 2003. Would buy it again, just not in the first build year.

love the car but dissapointed that i needed a new rear wheel bearing after 66,000 miles

  • Best car under 30000 - 2002 Subaru Impreza

Im vey pleased with the WRX. The handling is excellent as is the acceleration (0-60 6.0 secs at 3500ft- stock). The brakes could be better, however. The seats are the best Ive ever sat in. Rear seat comfort is also first rate. The shift action is fairly poor stock, but for $100 and 1hr you can install a shifter kit which improves the feel greatly. The only things I dislike: if you dont rev it up when starting off it will bog down, the previously mentioned shifter and brakes, and I wish it had a six speed. Over all this car is just awsome. It is almost a perfect car at any price, and for under $30000 it cant be beat!

  • 8 Years... I still love this car! - 2002 Subaru Impreza

I bought this car brand new 8 years ago and aside from a CPU problem (covered by factory warranty) Ive had no problems. With 92,000 Ive replaced the brakes just once on the front and back. It is a drivers car and is all about performance and drivability. Definitely the most bang for the buck possibly of any car made to date.
