Overview & Reviews
Subaru completely redesigns the Impreza and brings a high-performance turbocharged WRX variant into the fold to offer enthusiasts the opportunity to drive a powerful, all-wheel-drive sport sedan without breaking the bank. All Imprezas benefit from improvements in performance, refinement and safety. Along with the Impreza's trip upmarket come revised trim levels consisting of two sedans (WRX and 2.5 RS) and three wagons (WRX, Outback Sport and 2.5 TS Sport Wagon). The coupe body style has been dropped.
- A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel drive, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from.
- No more coupe, extroverted styling may be too much for some.

The style/under-steering is a Boo - 2002 Subaru Impreza
By Arrowhead - October 9 - 10:00 amI know under-steering is a common AWD problem. But not THIS much!!! At 5,500 rpm and 35mph, it cant corner like any others even with BS S-03. Youd beat a RSX type-R or Celica on open road, but youd never pass any in a race at cornering. This IS a Rally car, and sucks on the road. I turned it into a show car and loan it to people at autoshows. Finally, here is a catch. CHICKS HATE THIS CAR in both my personal experience and consumer research. I spent over $8,000 on make-overs included JDM HID headlights, carbon-fiber hood, and Zero- Sports bodykit/Wing, and women still dont buy it. So if you would like to pick up some hot chicks at night clubs. Give this one up!

2 head gaskets at 20k - 2002 Subaru Impreza
By dsomeda - August 3 - 8:50 amAt 2 yrs old developed small oil drops leaks 20k miles. At 3yrs started to drip coolant on driveway and oil drops. Dealer would not cover this fix because Subaru claimed only the Forester has bad gaskets but they asked me for my VIN any way. They gave me a bottle of head gasket sealer for 2$ and told me they were going to charge me $3500 for new gasket replacement. The very fact that the dealer even stocked(sealant) and basically gave it to me indicated that they have a widespread problem. It did not work. Used Bars Stop Leak instead. 2014 75k add coolant twice a week and code (Knock) triggered prob due to worn bearings from water in oil.

Okay car - 2002 Subaru Impreza
By koalapeck2 - August 27 - 1:20 amThe drive is great. But the fun stops there. This car is good at one thing only: Rally driving. Couldnt really feel the turbo.

Toss your $$ on a fire b4 buying this!!! - 2002 Subaru Impreza
By Hugdeath - September 2 - 10:00 amBottom of drivers seat 2 narrow. Lost "9K" in value in 14 months. Worse than a large american SUV. 2 much buffeting with front windows down. Flimsy/poorly sized cupholders. Cheap paint. Svc dept placed me in "LEGACY STATION WAGON" for a week and a half while they kept vehicle over multiple nights for 4th time. Fun 2 drive at moderate speeds. No fun at low speed. Too sketchy at high speeds.

in the shop - 2002 Subaru Impreza
By mdski - March 6 - 6:53 pmI have had this car less than one year and it has been in the shop for more than 15 days. Subaru does not seem to have the ability to manufacture a quality performance vehicle. The inside is third rate also.

By Looking Elsewhere - September 18 - 2:00 amIs anyone else having problems with the crappy CD player in this thing? And Ive even gottn it replaced under warranty and it still skips or wont even play my CDs. Besides that, the Check Engine light keeps coming on even though Ive been reassured that "nothing is wrong".

I will never buy another Subaru - 2002 Subaru Impreza
By DeeDido - June 24 - 7:00 amWith 75,000 miles on it the head gasket had to be replaced. At 85,000 the power steering gear box. There is no trunk light. There is no lumbar support in the seats. My back is killing me. The visors did not have enough range to block the sun. It rattled constantly. The ride was extremely bumpy all the time. The engine noise was very loud. The stereo was terrible. Cruise control was not even an option. Stupid cup holder mounted on the dash board above the stereo.
