This Year's Model Updates:

Diesel fans, rejoice! After years of waiting, a Mercedes-Benz diesel is once again available in the States, as the E320 CDI joins the lineup. For now, this model is only 45-state certified, meaning that it's unavailable in California, Maine, Massachusetts, New York or Vermont. Beginning in March 2005, the base E320 becomes the E350 with the addition of a 3.5-liter V6 with 51 more horsepower. At the same time, a sport package will be added, which features upgraded suspension tuning and wheels, as well as steering wheel-mounted shift buttons. Complimentary scheduled maintenance program has been dropped for 2005.

Pros:
  • Sleek and dignified design inside and out, pleasing blend of ride and handling, sophisticated safety features, all-wheel drive available on both sedans and wagons.
Cons:
  • More expensive than competitors, confusing control layout, electronically controlled brakes lack progressive feel.

This is the second "E" class I have owned. The first was an E320 Cab. Both cars are first rate. The only slight disappointment has been the gas mileage. My hope is that this will improve by the end of its first year. This hope is based upon the belief that the car will break-in and get better. Hope this is true. The ride and handling is as expected -- and quite good. I look forward to many years of driving pleasure.

Since the new CDI arrived, I had been wanting to buy one. I have been happy ever since I bought this car. It is fun to drive, and gets more than excellent gas mileage. I average 650 miles between fill-ups. Then interior is comfortable and well designed. Sound system is great also.

Fantastic mileage,...drove 920 miles to Florida on less than two tanks of fuel!!! Great road car for comfort, speed & handling. Purchased car, used, 3 yrs old with less than 10K. Even performed well this past winter in driving for its weight,....truly is one of the best vehicles I have ever owned. This is my 4th Mercedes. Hope to drive it for a long time. Service is 2nd to none at my selling dealer.

  • My favorite Mercedes - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

This is my third Mercedes purchase, first was the C230, second the S320, and now this model. While I enjoyed ownership of all previous Mercedes models, this sedan suits me the best. It is a perfect size and style. It is comfortable, yet fun to drive. The sound system provides great listening for my opera or rock CDs.

  • BIG PROBLEM - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Purchased new for my wife, It was in shop more days than she drove it, They said it was a computer problem, who knows? Had a S-class before, will purchase LEXUS for her. Let M/Benz get the bugs out of this one first!!!!

  • Fast, fun and furious E555 AMG - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Blazingly fast, extremely comfortable and totally unflappable. Cruises easily at 40, 80 or 120 mph. Easier to drive at triple digit speed than my old Grand Sport Corvette. Seats very comfortable and infinitely adjustable. Sound system can use more wattage for high speed cruising with open sunroof. Outrageous cost for installed telephone. Transmission sometimes lurches a bit, but slapstick is easy to use and dropping two gears quickly is easier than with manual transmission. Surprisingly good gas mileage on highway driving, although difficult to keep to speed limit. I would definitely buy another

  • MOST FUN EVER - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Let me start by saying this is one bad bad car(meaning great great car)Bought it with a strict budget in mind so i settled on a 2005 with call it 50 thousand miles.Black on black pd and i payed $31000 for this monster. Enough of that lets start with the fun aspect nothing i mean nothing will hang with this car the torque is just sensational i find myself looking the the lite to turn red so i can stop wait then lift off....whew it tough! I have owned the car for 2 weeks and not a problem yet, this car is all about the engine ,the interior is practical but my 04 745il was more plush driving position .JUST GO AND FIND A LOW MILE E55 AND HAVE FUN!!!!

  • Good Solid Car - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

This is a good solid family sedan. We special ordered the E500 with all the options( only missing is the distronic feature) Car has been trouble free for past two years. Keyless Go option is very nice to have, that you only need to carry the key with you in the pocket and you can open the car door and turn the ignition on without ever turning the key. Seats are very comfortable ( esp with dynamic seats, which automatically puts air into selective located area of seats when you turn the car in high speed for comfort" like G- suits in fighter jets" Engine is smooth and planty power with 7 speed transmission. wiht 305 HP engine passing is effortless and smooth and quiet overall.

  • The finest car built - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
