Overview & Reviews
Diesel fans, rejoice! After years of waiting, a Mercedes-Benz diesel is once again available in the States, as the E320 CDI joins the lineup. For now, this model is only 45-state certified, meaning that it's unavailable in California, Maine, Massachusetts, New York or Vermont. Beginning in March 2005, the base E320 becomes the E350 with the addition of a 3.5-liter V6 with 51 more horsepower. At the same time, a sport package will be added, which features upgraded suspension tuning and wheels, as well as steering wheel-mounted shift buttons. Complimentary scheduled maintenance program has been dropped for 2005.
- Sleek and dignified design inside and out, pleasing blend of ride and handling, sophisticated safety features, all-wheel drive available on both sedans and wagons.
- More expensive than competitors, confusing control layout, electronically controlled brakes lack progressive feel.

Fantastic Car - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By JSchwartz - September 3 - 10:00 amWe have had for one month. Combination of city (DC-Baltimore) and highway (I95) driving. Fun to drive, fuel economy is fantastic. This is our 2nd Mercedes and we love it.

Change your transmission oil! - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Justacustomer - August 22 - 7:40 amI really loved having this car, but now I am told that I need a new transmission. I drive a lot, which is why I got the diesel. One time I got 40 miles per gallon on a trip to the shore! I brought the car in religiously for service which is why I was so shocked that my tranz needed replacement. Transmission oil is not listed to be changed at intervals like regular oil. I wish I changed it at 80K because then I would not have been writing this review. Learn from my mistake. Change the tranny oil.

2 in my garage - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By oldgitsalesp - August 20 - 5:33 amHaving owned 7 MBZs in total, we have finally come to where I can say this is the real deal. I like them so much, that I have two of these in my garage. A 2002 and 2005 for me. Yes, we are blessed! High maintenance cost, brakes/tires, but a once in a lifetime thrill. Everbody checks it out.

Mecedes Getting It Right - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By D. Stumpf - August 7 - 3:56 amIn spite of the negative press MB has received of late, I do think they are getting it right in the 2005 and 2006 model years. In particular I have nothing but praise for my trusty E320. This is my third MB (2nd in the last 3 years) and by far the best. In fact, I think it outshines anything in its class. I now have nearly 15,000 miles and my only service has been for scheduled maintenance. Its been a trusty vehicle for over a year now, and I would not own any other brand for this type of car. My only complaint (and this holds for the 2003 models as well) is extremely poor wear on OEM tires. I have over 45,000 miles on my 2004 Acura MDX with less apparant wear than the MB.

E320 wagon - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By slo356 - May 18 - 7:43 pmOne of the better cars I have owned. Not as good as the 82 or 93 M/B sedans I purchased new way back when, but very good compared with what ever else is out there. Audi maybe the only other better car. I had an S4 Avant before this M/B Wagon and it was actually finished better, also much faster. The MB e320 wagon can acheive 28-29 mpg if you stick to 65-70 mph. Electric rear tailgate is a must!

Best car Ive ever owned - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By beachbumm - May 18 - 1:36 pmThis is my second E-320. Both are fine cars, but the 2005 is clearly the superior machine. I think the best one-word description for this car is "precision". It is fun to drive and does exactly what I expect. In the first six months of ownership there have been no problems at all. Having suffered quality issues in recent years, Mercedes has returned to the high standards of old with a car which seems nearly bulletproof.

A Great, but Expensive Ride - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Rick - May 5 - 12:56 amA tight, well balanced ride. Like most Mercedes, I had electrical problems and needed to have batteries replaced 4 times in the first 2 months I owned it. On the road it has good pickup with responsive and crisp steering. All inclusive with the fairly loaded configuration I specificed it set me back $76,000 and although Im happy with the car, I feel I should have walked out of the showroom with at least another $10K in my pocket. Overall, the powerful engine combined with excellent handling makes for an exhibiliating and road worthy experience.

Not as impressed - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By greg - March 26 - 5:00 pmI went from an Audi S4 to my E55 and have to say I am really disappointed with the MB. It is a great car, fast as can be but doesnt compare with the Audi. The handling and build quality of the MB arent up to the Audi standards which was a let down.
