  • Fun and Reliable - 2004 Mazda Tribute

Well-built & fun to drive. Reliable and stylish. The 16 gallon tank makes you keep an eye on the fuel gage always on the look out for the next station. Dealer tag says 25mpg on the highway and I have only been able to get 22.5 mpg wiht highway driving. It is great for getting 3 little girls to school, and dance. I can get them in and out easily.

  • Worth It - 2004 Mazda Tribute

Have had the Tribute for one month - 1000 highway miles, 1000 local miles. Great Highway Mielage - local mielage is okay and is as advertised - its an SUV, remember? NO PROBLEMS! Love It! Compared it with Escape - seems to corner better, and handle better (dont know why). Being a Mazda, it should hold its value better than Escape. Buying experience was better than the Ford Dealership.

I tried both the Escape and Tribute. I liked handling and style of Mazda. Mine is an ES with V6, AWD. This is a very good small SUV. I have had this vehicle for 1 year. It has 22k on it; 11k are mine. I maintain meticulous records of not just the mpg but rate the tank on how much city and highway driving I did and even on how hard I drove it. I averaged 16 mpg across 11k miles where I drove 85% suburban/15% highway. My worst mpg was 14 mpg all city driving and my best mpg was 22 mpg on all highway driving. [It is rated 18/24; I have yet to own a car that got its rated values and probably never will.] If you want a small 6 cylinder SUV, this is the one.

  • Still Scratching My Head - 2004 Mazda Tribute

Have had the Tribute for 1 1/2 years and 18,000 miles. I am still kicking myself for overlooking obvious things that annoy me now. Bad gas Mileage compared to EPA figure, Poor control for sliding sunroof, no passenger-side lock control, front seats sit to high and cant be lowered, hard to use cruise control at night, have had it in the shop 3 times to fix a rattle in tailgate that is only getting worse, the gear shift doesnt read on the dash 50% of the time, the way the engine downshifts going up just a slight incline causing MPG to suffer, cheap plastic interior door panels with no padding, soft brake pads leave dust on front wheels. Its my fault for purchasing the vehicle.

The ES-V6 is both quick and nimble. Smooth running engine; smooth shifting transmission. The ES model has plenty of doodads and gizmos for entertainment. The premium sound system sounds great and is easy to use. On the down side, there is a bit much road and/or drivetrain noise, and the front seats (or my butt) could use some extra padding.

  • Very Enjoyable - 2004 Mazda Tribute

I just bought this on the 2nd of Feb., this truck is great! I got the cold package.... the heated seats are wonderful. The milage is on the poor side, but everything else is great. Very smooth, and peppy V6.

I have had good luck with this vehicle. No service issues at all. I had a class 3 hitch installed and a transmission cooler and have towed my camping trailer all over the Rockies. It should be considered for towing small-medium loads. I threw away roof rack and installed tracks to accept Thule sliding bars. I can carry two 16canoes with the 78" bars!

  • Love my ZOOM ZOOM - 2004 Mazda Tribute

Ive had my Tribute for 1 1/2 years and LOVE it (except the gas mileage). Does great in the snow, even w/o the 4WD engaged. Wonderful ride quality, although there is a little wind noise at highway speeds.

  • Love my Tribute! - 2004 Mazda Tribute

Great vehicle. Acceleration is excellent. Ride and handling are wonderful. Roomy, plush (for the price) interior. Biggest shortcoming - seats could definitely be softer and give more thigh support. Nitpicks - shift lever is too long, ignition key location is a real hassle. Overall a very enjoyable vehicle! Would definitly recommend the Tribute! Not sure why everyone complains about the mileage on the V6 - the great acceleration doesnt come out of thin air, you have to burn more gas to create more horsepower!

you should have all the cat. converters checked for clogges,ie rear 1 it will blow a hole in egr valve. costing about 285.00 , i had mine removed and replaced with pipe . resolved issues. cts will clogged from unburned gas causing motor to shut down. this pipe trick does the job. all happened at 121k. also keep gas filter changed. its on frame, easy to do.
