  • safety in question - 2011 Kia Sorento

The suspension is very bad, it sounds like an old car that needs new struts and shocks when you go over a rough road. I took it back to the dealer and they said thats the way it is. I question the safety because of the suspension. I wish i could something different because of the safety issue.

  • Well made in America - 2011 Kia Sorento

We have owned it for 18 months and have 28,500 miles. Not one problem yet, except some minor recalls. I really like the leather, climate controls, navi is just as good as Lexus. Great 3rd row when you need it. This car is perfect for our family and has done well on long trips.

  • Needs Retro-Fit Shocks - 2011 Kia Sorento
    By -

Great car in all respects except that when driven on choppy Northern roads, it rides much too hard and choppy. Kia knows this and is putting Dual flow damper shocks on all newly built 2011 Sorentos to cure the problem. They need to provide access to those or other shocks/dampers that can be installed on 2011s already on the road that have the original inadequate shocks.

I bought my 2011 Kia Sorento (base model with manual transmission) in February, 2011. So far I love it. However, there is one glitch that maybe other Kia owners have noticed. It is with Kias automatic locking system. Never ever leave your keys in the ignition for any period of time when leaving! Kia automatically locks you out after a short period of time. It has happened to me twice so far. I asked the Kia owner about this and he said it has happened to him twice, so beware..... I have been locked out twice.

Ok, I feel the 4cyl is not an adequate engine for this SUV. The six speed transmission is down shifting all the time at all speeds just to keep this vehicle at 55-60 mph. Which in return makes this vehicle use a lot of gas. I was told at the dealership, "let it get 1000-2000 miles on it and it would get better". Ok it just rolled over to 5000 miles and the mileage is just as bad. So the dealership tells me now,"it will get better at around 7000- 8000 miles". REALLY NOW how much longer are they gonna make excuses for putting an inadequate engine into this SUV. But that is really my only complaint with this SUV. I shouldve gone with the V-6 model or another make.

  • having trouble - 2011 Kia Sorento

I bought my car not even 2 years ago and I have had to have it towed 3 times already for 3 different reasons, first reason was something with the computers the car would just not start and everything locked up when I went to start it, second reason was because there were loose wires in the care, it shut off on me at a gas station, I went inside to pay for the gas when I came out it would not start and now they are saying that there are problems with the starter. we bought this car so that we would not have to worry about these issues and we thought a new car would be reliable but so far my husbands car bought in 2002 has been the reliable car :( were prob going to end up trading in the car.

  • transmission went kapoof at 25k miles - 2011 Kia Sorento
    By -

Car: 2011 base model, 4cyl. Transmission went kapoof at 25k miles. I rolled it into a stop sign then suddenly, loud grinding sound and the car wont move anymore. The engine still runs but car wont move. Towed it to the dealer and they replaced the transmission (for free) under warranty. It took them 4 days to fix. No loaner/rental car was provided..."it is not in KIAs policy" The car was never driven hard. I hope a recall would be issued regarding the transmission problem that people are having. When that warranty runs out....watch out $$$ One of the tire pressure sensor keeps leaking air. The seal on the valve is crap. Fix: replaced it with a traditional non-tps valve.

  • Poor fuel economy - 2011 Kia Sorento
    By -

I went in to buy a Subaru Outback, but I was impressed by the styling of the Kia. So I ended up buying the Sorento. I thought I was going to get a car with fuel efficiency, but I am sadly disappointed. I am supposed to average 27 miles per gallon/highway, but am only getting 21 miles per gallon/highway. Since I drive 450 miles/week highway, it seems all I do is gas up the car. I am still impressed by the interior and exterior the car, and I love the Sirius. Its too soon to give a true evaluation of the reliability. I must honestly say I regret not buying the Subaru, because fuel economy was crucial for me.

  • Quite Satisfied - 2011 Kia Sorento

I have to say, I really like this vehicle so far. Driving is enjoyable. The steering wheel is a bit heavy, but is not a distraction. The V6 engine has plenty of power. My gas mileage keeps going up the more I get used to it. Currently about 20 MPG in mixed driving. I am coming out of an Infiniti M35 and have not missed it. Comparatively, the backup camera is not quite as clear. The Bluetooth Phone connectivity was a bit challenging with two phones connected. Voice recognition is average. I found the transmission gearing a bit close and noticed some RPM pull in some downshifts. Overall I am very happy with the quality and driving impression of this car. Go drive one!

  • A value if it proves reliable - 2011 Kia Sorento
    By -

Too new to rate reliability. However we looked at all four wheel and all wheel drive cars and the Kia was by far the best value. We also liked that it was made in the USA. A better overall value than the Subaru Forester. Initial mileage of 21 slightly disappointing as we were getting that from the V-6 in the Buick and this is only a four. Here in Maine, the AWD is essential during the winter months. Time will tell how the Kia will hold up.
