This Year's Model Updates:

The LX model is now available with a sport package that includes a new five-speed manual transmission, side step bars, Michelin tires, alloy wheels, roof rack, leather-wrapped steering wheel and keyless entry. A two-tone gray interior color scheme is also new, and metallic interior accents replace last year's wood grain accents.

Pros:
  • Great value, long list of standard features, solid construction, true off-road capability, lengthy warranty coverage.
Cons:
  • Mediocre fuel economy, harsh ride over sharp impacts.

  • Fun vehicle to drive - 2004 Kia Sorento

Like some people, we were nervous about buying a Kia. I test drove several small SUVs and fell in love with the Sorento. I have 50K miles on it with no problems whatsoever. Ive pulled a trailer and the 4wd has been great for the winter snow. I have been extremely happy with my Sorento and have been pleased.

We jsut got this rig and it seems to be solid for the price. We really looked around and in the beginning mileage was a major factor but as we atarted to look for the price and wiht the warranty we get with this vehicle we decided to give up a couple of miles per gallon and give it a try. I read all of the reviews about the road noise and I think Kia must have also because the 2004 seems to be solid in that area. I think it is a great buy for te money and would recommend it to anyone. Another side note is I have already had people from a distance think that I was driving a Lexus SUV!

Our KIA has performed well since we bought it in August, 2004. However, there has been an issue with the rear seatbelts. The Initial latch on the center(rear)seatbelt has been found to be faulty. Also, the rear - drivers side seatbelt failed in an emergency stop involving our 3 year-old. Our dealership promised to fix the problem, but we have yet to see results. Its been about three weeks since reporting the problem to them. After doing some research, we have found that previous models of KIA vehicles have had serious problems with their seatbelt functions. We strongly urge others to do their research and make sure their dealership will promptly fix any defects to their vehicles.

  • Love driving it - hate the recent fixes - 2004 Kia Sorento

Original owner. 140,000. Other than the headlight and coolant reservoir issues that ALL 04 Sorentos seem to have, Ive replaced the throttle position sensor. Has been reliable and though mostly highway miles, it has never needed brakes (knowing how to drive a stick has helped with that). Doesnt eat tires, and get about 21 mpg. However, PCV and Catalytic Conv. need replacing now. Will be paid off next month and has NO resale value. Will drive it til the wheels fall off (fun off road), but hope I can get the parts for my mechanic for the current and upcoming fixes. Almost all must be purchased at the dealer.

  • So Far so good - 2004 Kia Sorento

Ive had my 2004 Sorento EX (4wd) for about 2 months now and have about 2600 miles on it. So far nothing has gone wrong with it and Ive had a great time driving it. The sorento has the best factory installed stereo system Ive ever heard. Im regulary being asked about the car and everyone who has seen it has been impressed. So far, its been a great pay for the money.

  • Thumbs up - 2004 Kia Sorento

After only 2 months, I am thrilled I bought my Sorento. It is fun to drive, responsive and it turns heads. Sure, the gas milage leaves alot to be desired, but I knew that going in. I can buy alot of gas for the money I saved by not buying the other brands. The only problem I have is the outside themometer doesnt keep up with the temperature changes, but I understand that is being addressed.

  • needs outside temp. gauge.. - 2004 Kia Sorento

I really love my KIA sorento.. I only have a few complaints. On a suv this loaded, I cant believe that there is no outside temp. gauge. I also think the key needs to come into the new millenium. Make the key and remote one piece. Such as the audi/VW. I am a former vw owner and i loved that key combo.. Overall I really love my sorento..Time will tell..:)

Just got my 2004 Kia today. Love it!!! Mine is black w/ the side running bars. What a fantastic ride. My partner just got a Lexus RX330 and he compares my Kia to his Lexus as a comparable vehicle.

  • Will never buy a Kia again - 2004 Kia Sorento

I loved this car until the windshield washer pump went out three times. I have a headlight go out about once a month. After changing the timing belt at 60,000 miles the engine locked up and the dealer told me it needed a whole new motor which would not be covered by warranty. I took it somewhere else and had it fixed for $600, no new motor needed after all! A CD is stuck in the CD player. The paint has chipped all over. The gas gauge is broken so I have to remember to reset the trip meter every time I fill up. The back passenger door latch keeps falling off. Poor MPG. Every time I have taken the car in, my complaints are not covered by the "bumper to bumper, 100,000 mile warranty."
