This Year's Model Updates:

The LX model is now available with a sport package that includes a new five-speed manual transmission, side step bars, Michelin tires, alloy wheels, roof rack, leather-wrapped steering wheel and keyless entry. A two-tone gray interior color scheme is also new, and metallic interior accents replace last year's wood grain accents.

Pros:
  • Great value, long list of standard features, solid construction, true off-road capability, lengthy warranty coverage.
Cons:
  • Mediocre fuel economy, harsh ride over sharp impacts.

I bought this SUV after having my child and realizing the sports car had to go. I would not even consider a 4 door sedan. This is the best alternative although the tank is a guzzler. I love the car but dont buy one at Kia Norwood they are a nightmare in Warwick, RI

  • I Love My Sorento - 2004 Kia Sorento

Im a middle-aged woman who found a comfortable and maneuverable 4WD that rides smoothly over the road but handles my excursions off-road quite well. It took a few days to get used to the height and slower speed necessary when using highway off-ramps without the sensation of tipping or rolling over, but that same height allows for great off-road clearance. It holds my horse saddle and tack as easily as the groceries, and looks great for a dressed-up night on the town. Gas mileage is about 17 around town, 21 over-the-road. A truly versitile vehicle that converts easily from a passenger to utility vehicle in minutes.

  • Great car with 239K miles - 2004 Kia Sorento
    By -

239,000 Miles and is still going strong. I am still very pleased and had no major mechanical issues. It rides very comfortably and has not developed any annoying squeaks or rattles. The interior has held up as well if not better than my previous Acura and Volvo. Great sound system. Maintenance has been about average and I have replaced the timing belt twice at 80K miles and 160K miles. If you are considering the 04 Sorento be sure that the 2 recalls (crankshaft pulley bolt and the intake manifold butterfly valve) have been done. Replace the coolant tank with the redesigned one. no increase in oil use even with 239K miles. Average about 20- 21 MPG HWY. Better than the 19 listed.

  • Gotta love the warranty - 2004 Kia Sorento
    By -

I have driven 42.000 miles in my Kia and have enjoyed most of them. The engine literally died in December and the dealer replaced it completely, zero cost to me, other than the lack of the vehicle for a month. I tow a camper with it.

We are very happy with our sorento. It is way comfortable and sporty. We researched most suvs in the class and the sorento kicks all other manufacturers butt. The warranty is awesome.

  • Great Job KIA - 2004 Kia Sorento

Little compared to a Pathfinder or Escalade, etc (4x4 World), but overall fun and easy to drive and dart around town. Simple to park too. A bit plain in appearance but stylish enough to be modern. The warrenty cant be beat. The total package is cheaper then the competition (cmon Leather, all time 4WD, even Radio Controls for crying out loud!). Safety is a factor, 6 air bags ensure it! I have to put a 5 in Build Quality and Reliability, with it being new I cant honestly judge it. Yet. Not bad for a Korean manufacture, now if only my Samsung TV was just as solid.

  • Hmmm rethink your Kia sorento purchase - 2004 Kia Sorento
    By -

Like most sorento owners, I too have replaced tail lights, headlights, clock doesnt work, cd player has a cd stuck in it. Now I was driving home across the state and it overheated and engine shut off. I dont know what happened or if its covered. I still owe beau coup $$$ on it so if its not covered do I just walk away from the loan? Im not paying for a car that I cant drive or afford to fix. Well see if they are more helpful at my dealership that what others have experienced.

great to drive, smooth, very stable, comfortable, stylish, good over all lenth, nice height, and a very good pick up on acceleration

  • Beyond all expectations... - 2004 Kia Sorento

As the mother to 2 small children, I was in the market for a midsize SUV that was safe and stylish. As a lifelong car snob,I cant believe how favorably the Kia compares to the high- end SUVs (which I really cant afford even if I sold a kidney). The exterior is great-looking, and the interior is thoughtfully designed, luxurious, and beautiful. The truck feels solid and well-built when you close the doors-- nothing flimsy here. The engine is whisper-quiet and driving is a pleasure. The acceleration is more than adequate, though not spectacular. I handles well and has a very tight turning radius.

  • Save 8 grand and love it. - 2004 Kia Sorento
    By -

Transmission: Nissan, Brakes: Bosch, Liomited slip Diffrential; Eaton/Carbon..etc..etc They put together a really nice package..dosent compare to Mazda Tribute..closer to Honda Pilot for a whole lot less. Dont be concerned about the gas mileage..if you do the math you will NEVER eat up the 8 grand you saved plus add the warranty and you cant go wrong.
