This Year's Model Updates:

The Hyundai Tucson is an all-new compact SUV from Hyundai. It rides on the Elantra platform and is intended for buyers who want a smaller package than the midsize Santa Fe.

Pros:
  • Generous warranty, standard ABS and stability control, roomy passenger and cargo space, attractive interior, standard side and head curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Low horsepower rating, some cheap interior materials here and there.

Great so far. Nice stereo system - MP3 player a plus. Much bigger inside than it looks. Good ride - smooth on the highways. I like the dashboard features. Glovebox is HUGE. Lots of rear seat room, even when front seats are pushed all the way back. A great value so far (except for the gas mileage)

What I really miss is lighted vanity mirrors. Also, I was told that my vehicle had a better cabin filtration system than my 2002 Honda Accord (which had a Hepa filter). When I started sneezing and detecting a strage smell, inside my Tucson, I had my husband check the filter.....SURPRISE...The slot was there, behind the glovebox, but there was no filter! The dealer ordered one for me and then tried to charge me $90.00 to install it. The gas milage is also not good. This baby is cute but rather expensive to maintain.

This vehicle has been with us for 1 month and there is a problem with it surging. The engine has died several times. It has been with the dealership for almost a week now. No one has bothered to diagnose the problem as of yet. The dealership did not want to give up a loaner in the meantime. we had to contact Hyundai to get the dealership to give a loaner while this one is being serviced. The dealership has only 2 techs. So they are backed up on service. All dealerships in the area are backed up and the wait time is always at least 2 weeks. What do you think? 1 month of ownership, 1400 miles, still in shop after 1 week waiting for repair, dealership making a bad situation worse.

Battery will go dead at infrequent random times. I installed a new battery, but same problem. Dealer has no idea how to fix it. The trans-axle began to leak oil and make a burning smell. The dealer repaired it alright. Front tires are already worn out at 38k miles. The door remote control function is intermittent. I find myself shifting in manual mode most of the time, to obtain the most power and gas mileage. Also, the warranty may appear good at first, but the required maintenance schedules should be reviewed before buying. Would I buy this vehicle again? I dont think so. Mostly because of the battery issue.

  • Great vehicle, bad mgp - 2005 Hyundai TUCSON

When I purchased the Tuscan, I was looking at the Santefee.... I was drawn to the Tuscan for more leg room ... (I am 63") I have enjoyed the comfort up front, but the mpg is not that good. I have taken it thru snow, responded well, I have taken it on vacations, good too. I have never had to replace anything other than the drive belt. This car is really a reliable vehicle. It just stinks when it comes to mpg.

Great ride on the bumpy roads. Performs well in the difficult weather. Very roomy in the rear. The price is right. I have a positive feeling about the purchase.

Bought new and driving for almost 4 years - no breakdowns till date - running smooth. Poor mileage (19-20 mpg)- time to replace the stock tires (39,000 - guess not bad). Car used to pull towards right - aligned the wheels twice (almost everytime during the scheduled service) - they cant figure out why its pulling like that - now theyre saying it could be due to worn out tires - but the problem started after 20k miles.. I am going to put Michelin on it next week and balance the wheels once again - will see if the problem still persists. Otherwise a great car - my first car was a sonata which also did great for 5 years.. I hope Tuscon also does well in the coming years!

We purchased this vehicle for price and economy with gas. We also are pleased with the four wheel drive for bad weather. All and all weve been very satisfied with this vehicle.
