This Year's Model Updates:

The Hyundai Tucson is an all-new compact SUV from Hyundai. It rides on the Elantra platform and is intended for buyers who want a smaller package than the midsize Santa Fe.

Pros:
  • Generous warranty, standard ABS and stability control, roomy passenger and cargo space, attractive interior, standard side and head curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Low horsepower rating, some cheap interior materials here and there.

  • Gas Mileage is terrible - 2005 Hyundai TUCSON

I have owned 3 Hyundais and always buy from the same dealership. But the Tucson is the biggest rip off. The gas mileage is terrible. Please beware before buying if you care about gas mileage. It was top on my list and I got stuck with a car that costs an arm and a leg.

  • Power Failures - 2005 Hyundai TUCSON

Bought a Tucson for female, working college student who commutes. Nothing but TROUBLE. Year 1 -it began flashing power lights, and dying on her while driving. Then began having dead batteries randomly. Hyundai Service refused to replace the battery until 2 year warranty was up so we had to PAY for one. Also dead if it isnt driven for several days. Something in the elec system is pulling juice during non- running time but they cant find it and have now given up. We will replace it with one she can be secure and safe driving (and not driving). SKIP THIS MODEL TUCSON!!!

I enjoyed the look of this vehicle and warranty, very smooth ride. I only had the Tuscon for three weeks when it would die while driving it. Thank goodness for the warranty. I dont think I would purchase again. The Tuscon does not hold its value and not worth what I paid for it.

Steers like a truck. Transmission shifts to many times, when not needed! Poor gas mileage. Large blind spot in rear side windows. Black fender molding chips easily and shows white.

  • Definitely a nice looking SUV - 2005 Hyundai TUCSON

I have had my Tucson for about 2 months now. I have no major complaints but also on the other hand no major excitements. It is my first new car purchase and I was impressed with the warrranty and safety features. I do love the way it looks though. I just recently go my two front windows tinted to match the privacy glass in the rear of the vehicle and now it looks absolutely stunning.

  • DEFECT - 2005 Hyundai TUCSON

I enjoy driving this truck, its fun, looks good, but in 4 months of owing I had to get towed in because a hose under the hood stopped it from moving. This hose melted and twice came loose causing the truck to stall or not move forward. 3rd time its been "fixed". Ive been given a loaner vehicle each time, but I really want my truck to work well - I dont want a defect 2005 truck. It could be roomier, better on gas for city driving. Mp3 system is nice but no one at dealer could not explain how to use it. I like having a cassette and CD player. A lot of great standards for a great price.

  • good product, bad performance - 2005 Hyundai TUCSON

would be a great product if they could get a larger 4 cylinder, and a little bit more comfortable seats.

Ride and handling are ok. Dont like the way trans shifts. Its too slow shifting, wastes gas doing so. You can get better performance by shifting manually. Brake pedal feels too soft.

  • Disappointed - 2005 Hyundai TUCSON

Purchased the vehicle two months ago and have put on 10K miles. We are disappointed greatly in the advertised mpg, should avg 26, we currently get under 20 100% highway which is a decrease from mpg at 5K. We also recently test drove a 4 cyl Mazda 3 and found that it had more pick up and smoother transmission than the Tucson. For others comparing SUVs to this vehicle, you may prefer this to a larger SUV, but overall I am disappointed in the engine performance and handling. Does have some nice interior features and shorter length is good for parking in crowded lots. Based on other feedback and reviews, I believe there is an inconsistency in the manufacturing of this vehicle.

  • Most Worthless Best Built Vehicle - 2005 Hyundai TUCSON
    By -

If youre looking for a vehicle that will get you 8 - 12 MPG City and no more than 21 Hwy (at 60 MPH), a concealed cargo area of no more than 8.4 cubic feet, tepid acceleration and a slow shifting transmission, the Tucson is for you. This is one of the most useless vehicles I have ever seen. You cant carry anything over 15" tall under the parcel shelf (or 24" deep with the back seats up). Four people can not take a Tucson on a trip and hide their valuables. In real world driving, a 350 HP Escalade gets better gas mileage than this underpowered piece of crap. It is however, extremely well built. If you want great build quality with no cargo space and pathetic MPG, this ones for you.
