This Year's Model Updates:

Honda has added a new trim level for 2002, the SE. The Accord SE is based on the LX four-cylinder coupe or sedan trim level with an automatic transmission. Features setting the SE apart from LX models include an upgraded audio system, a driver seat power height adjustment, interior wood grain trim, antilock brakes, remote keyless entry and 15-inch alloy wheels.

Pros:
  • Great build quality, spacious interior, peppy yet clean engines, comfortable seats, excellent resale value, reputation for bulletproof reliability.
Cons:
  • Everybody drives one, bland personality, stiff highway ride.

  • I want to like this car, but... - 2002 Honda Accord
    By -

Purchased this car 4/14/02. In 3 weeks we heard a buzzing sound in the tranny. At the dealer, they opened the tranny and said they needed to replace a bearing. The part was ordered/installed and it was in the shop 4 days. 4 days and 100 miles later, the buzzing noise was back. Back at the dealer, I get word that Honda engineers in CA recommended replacing all the bearings in the transmission (10). The bearings were ordered and arrived in 4 days. Then, I was heard that 1 of the 10 bearings did not arrive. Its on back-order and would have to come from Japan and its still in the shop. My 11.5 year old Dodge is more reliable.

  • Should of kept my old car - 2002 Honda Accord

And thats not saying much....my old car was a beat up fifteen yr old hyundai excel with 250,000 miles. A shopping cart hit my car in the parking lot and caused $1500.00 worth of damage. Looked like it was hit by a tractor trailer....the drivers seat detatched from the body two wks later sending my head crashing into the windshield....this is a safe car?!?

  • Great so far - 2002 Honda Accord

Did alot of research on this car before buying. Originally wanted a 5 spd 4 cylinder coupe but they were very scarce so I was concerned about resale. So far, everything works great and the car is a blast to drive. Also considered the Acura CL but decided the price range was too high for a coupe. Getting 23 miles around town and 27-79 on highway. This car has great, precise steering and a tight ride. My wifes 99 Maxima feels mushy after driving the Honda. Highly recommend this car.

  • Please add some more metal!!!!!!!!!! - 2002 Honda Accord
    By -

This is my 3rd Honda Accord and have had no major mechanical problems, but the sheet metal is so thin I feel like Im riding in a cola can. My Accord has so many dents and dings from rocks and such and some of the rock chips are starting to rust. This is ridiculous!! It is a year old and rust? My Pontiac is 3 years older has twice the rock chips and no rust. Also my Pontiac has no dings. I switch off driving both cars for the same commute. Earth to Honda --- USE BETTER SHEET METAL!!!!!!!! I will never buy a honda again -- the quality has continually degraded with each accord release!

  • Good bang for the buck - 2002 Honda Accord

The Accord is a good solid drive. For the price it _cant_ be beat. Almost everything you could want is in it.

  • Another defective transmission - 2002 Honda Accord
    By -

I like many others have a defective transmission with only 91,000 miles. Honda wont fix it. The transmission was slipping for many years but got worse the last 2 months. I went online and was surprised by all the other Accord owners with the same problem, which really surprised me about a Honda car. There were so many complaints that I was not sure why there is not a recall. I thought Honda had great quality, bad this did not happen in my case. By the way, the new transmission will cost me $35,000.

  • Transmission Broke at 90,000 - 2002 Honda Accord
    By -

I have the familiar problem of having a bad transmission. Dont believe the others on this website that say changing your transmission will help avoid this problem. Whoever says this works for Honda. I say this because that is actually what I did (regular transmission changes) and it did not help, I now need a transmission repair at 90,000 miles. Honda wont help. I will trade it in for another car. I will also trade in my Honda CRV because of the frustration with this issue.

  • Great Car! - 2002 Honda Accord

First Honda I have ever owned and it wont be the last! This car is virtually maintenance free - mjust add gas and change the oil every 3000 miles. When I bought the car I changed the timing belt and water pump but that is all the service in the 18 months I have had it.

  • great car!!!! - 2002 Honda Accord

Bought this car in 2005 and its been wonderful. Had regular maintenance and replaced battery and brake pads... and tires but no major problems! It gets wonderful gas mileage!!! It now has over 90,000 miles and still running great.

  • This car is extremely reliable - 2002 Honda Accord
    By -

I drove this car off the showroom floor in 2002. I cant say enough great things about it. For 2002, this car was loaded and came with 6 disc changer, moonroof, rear spoiler, and leather seats. I drive this car all around VA and get about 33-35 MPG on highway. I can usually get about 450- 500 miles on a single tank. Its unfortunate the newer Accords dont get the mileage this one has, however I guess with the increase in size, you compromise MPG.
