Overview & Reviews
The Freestyle is an all-new crossover wagon from Ford. Built on a Volvo platform, it incorporates the Swedish brand's safety and all-wheel-drive technology, while offering six- to seven-passenger seating capacity.
- Truly roomy seating for six passengers, plenty of cargo space, balanced ride and handling characteristics, lengthy list of safety features.
- So-so acceleration, some low-grade interior materials, no stability control or navigation system.

Great Car - 2005 Ford Freestyle
By Joel H. - April 24 - 10:55 pmOnly had this rig for 5 months now, but have enjoyed owning it this far. It has 100,00 miles on it. I am a service tech, at the dealership where it was sold new, So I have presonally done alot of the service work on it. The CVT is original and has no problems so far. Thinking back I can only remember 3 CVTs with problems at our dealership. I worked on one of them. They are pretty simple and compared to other vehicles, I think the failure rate is probabally average. I am planning to tow a 14 fiberglass boat this summer so well see how that goes. Removed the rear center console so our 4 year old can get through to the third row.

Liked the Freestyle - 2005 Ford Freestyle
By Lobo - April 24 - 2:29 pmWe live in S. MD and bought the 05 Freestyle new while on a trip to WV happened to pass a dealer in VA and just stopped in for a look. Traded an 01 Explorer Sport, and have really enjoyed the Freestyle. The handling, comfort, and space were very good mileage averaged around 24 for 65k miles. CVT took a little getting used to, but really liked it in the mountains, and great in up to 10" of snow. No problems or repairs just traded it in for a 2010 Lincoln MKX, wifes an SUV girl at heart. Interesting note, local dealer thought our Freestyle was so nice, its in their showroom for sale, and they can only fit 3 vehicles in the showroom. Freestyles dont stay on the lot long around here.

Need New Transmission - 2005 Ford Freestyle
By Abby - February 24 - 11:00 amLike others, I also need a new transmission at 88K miles. I have done all the tuneups, oil changes, filters, etc on this vehicle since I purchased it new in 2005. Transmission went out and so did the fuel and water pumps all at the same time. Costs more to repair than the car is worth, and Im still making payments. Wish Ford would make concessions for these vehicles and help with repair expenses.

No problems here - 2005 Ford Freestyle
By POC - February 21 - 1:13 amWeve had a very good experience with our Freestyle. It replaced a Durango that we had lots of trouble with. The Freestyle is peppy for its size and handles well. The CVT is different and takes some getting used to. Traction control is sometimes not helpful, very glad that it can be turned off, with it off both front tires pull. Last week I drove home through 6" of unplowed snow without a problem. We had one problem with the Climate Control dash buttons not working, turned out to be a vacuum leak (known to happen). I bought the car for my wife to drive, as she didnt want a minivan. It is a good looking car too. Selling ours to get something 4x4.

Good car, made like a tank - 2005 Ford Freestyle
By Philippe T. - December 22 - 7:38 pmDidnt want a minivan but needed lots of space for the expanding family. The driving experience is superb, theres a real feeling of security white driving this car, its very stable. When you take a look around the car, you notice its made strong + lots of protective panels/rubber here and there. Performance is low, but who wants to race a 7 passenger car? Fuel economy is good on the hwy. Its has 70k miles with no major issues. A couple of repair on the suspension but previous owner drove a lot on unpaved roads, so I guess its normal. Generally love this car and recommend it. Saw a couple of internet complaits about tranny prob. I tow a 2000 pound popup tent and its holding up pretty strong.

Could have been better - 2005 Ford Freestyle
By Tom D. - December 22 - 2:56 pmThis vehicle replaced a 8 year old minivan. I needed cargo space for traveling, wanted better mileage and was motivated by the "Crossover" concept. I found the following: The overall ride and handling is excellent though the suspension is stiff. At interstate speeds it is very stable and the steering has excellent avoidance response. The cabin could be quieter. Fit and finish appears good and doors and frame have a very solid feel. Engine is adequate but I prefer better acceleration. The CVT is very smooth. The rear and center seat folding/storage flexibility is adequate. Automatic air conditioning very good especially in rear. Actual mileage is 18.5 local and 22.4 city

Good Job Ford - 2005 Ford Freestyle
By mikeg7 - October 26 - 3:40 pmHave had no issues with the vehicle quality. With a full load of adults the vehicle seems to be underpowered. But with 2 adults, 1 kid and all of the child support devices (stroller, toys, etc.) there is no problem. Vehicle was damaged from a road side assistance. Incorrectly jacked the vehicle. Love the fold flat design on the 3rd row. Great design and very easy to use. We did not get the second row center console so that people could walk to the back without having to flip the 2nd row seats. There are already drink holders in the doors so you dont need that center console. I am 61" and 245 and have no issues sitting in the 3rd row Overall the perfect vehicle for us.

Soccer Dad - 2005 Ford Freestyle
By Joe Donoghue - September 28 - 11:33 amIve driven the Ford Freestyle AWD SE model for 6 months now. I originally was looking for a small truck with a rear seat. I looked at the Ranger and with two young daughters that are still growing, I had an epiphany. I could only think of a few occasions that the truck would really be practical. Having come from driving a Jeep Cherokee and Toyota Tacoma4WD and Saab sedans I knew what all the different types of vehicles had to offer, first hand. Other than giving up the gas mileage of my Saab, Ive come to appreciate the roominess of the Freestyle even when, just last weekend I had me, my wife and two daughters, and three girlfriends, all were seated comfortably. Im happy with it.
