This Year's Model Updates:

The Freestyle is an all-new crossover wagon from Ford. Built on a Volvo platform, it incorporates the Swedish brand's safety and all-wheel-drive technology, while offering six- to seven-passenger seating capacity.

Pros:
  • Truly roomy seating for six passengers, plenty of cargo space, balanced ride and handling characteristics, lengthy list of safety features.
Cons:
  • So-so acceleration, some low-grade interior materials, no stability control or navigation system.

I needed 7 passenger seating and found that the seating in the Freestyle was much better than the Freestar. However, it is harder for my little ones 2 & 4 to climb out from the 2nd row seats. Exit from 3rd row is easier for them. The car is great! CVT drives very nice. Handles great. Fuel economy is 6 mpg better than Freestar which at $2 and 18k miles a year the difference is $400 which is one payment. Have not yet experienced the snow but got the FWD instead on AWD. SE was good bargain compared to SEL which costs $3k more and all you get is the message center.

  • Great Vehicle - 2005 Ford Freestyle

Pros:This is a wonderful vehicle. I came from a Ford Explorer and have more room than a vehicle that looks bigger. Great features like audible beep when backing up (the radio actually reduces volume) and a very smooth ride. I am completely satisfied with the pick-up and performance of the CVT transmission. Con: The automatic climate does not seem that responsive. When I lower the temp it still blows hot for a period of time. I need to bring it in. The CD player acts a bit crazy at times. Occasionally skips to next track befor song finishes and speeds up as if it senses a skip that isnt there.

  • 1 year with a Freestyle Limited AWD - 2005 Ford Freestyle

AWD was great after we got about 20 inches of snow! Very comfortable ride on long trips. Handles potholes and road joints with ease. I like the car and my wife, who drives it most likes it better than any minivan we owned. Now for the down side. PLEASE find a bigger motor for this otherwise great product. Around town its not bad, but try to pull into traffic or pass on the highway and its like old style turbo lag. The back hatch should have a remote power lift assist for the money spent. I would defiantly recommend this vehicle even without the needed improvements.

  • Love the Car but...... - 2005 Ford Freestyle

I have very near 3,000 miles on the vehicle and have few complaints with the exception of the fuel mileage. Ive read the previous reviews which speak of 20 and more miles per gallon and Im just not getting that. My best so far was 17.5 mpg on the highway. I purchased the Freestyle to replace my beloved SportTrac because I needed the cargo space and the Freestyle comes through. Plenty of space and comfort to boot! No problems getting used to the CVT and although there is some road noise it is acceptable. I have read the reviews of the interior style being plastic, but think it is modern and stylish, I like it!

  • After 7500 miles - 3 weeks for repair - 2005 Ford Freestyle
    By -

I took delivery in October 04 and my wife and I like the car overall. Good car like ride, spacious interior, enough power, AWD and traction control. Noise level at 70 mph very low. We sold our 1996 Jeep LTD with 57,000 miles on it (nothing but problems ). Our Freestyle has been in the repair shop for 3 weeks now. While we were driving on the freeway at 60 mph the dash lights would come on and show us symbols like: Brakes, ABS, Traction, and the speedometer needle would drop to zero while you are driving at 60 mph. This happened 4 times to us. The dealership could not repeat the problem while in the shop. The whole dashboard electrical cluster had to be replaced. Will see whether they fixed it .

Very satisfied with style and performance. We have a family of 5, and this fits our needs quite well. Used it on the beaches in NC, and am looking forward to a snowy winter.

This vehicle has not received a lot of publicity and I dont know why. It has been, in the short time Ive owned it, a solid vehicle with better than average fuel mileage, comfort and performance. We are getting ready to take it on a 1200 mile trip and I look forward to the ride.

  • Dashboard reflection - 2005 Ford Freestyle

On sunny days, extremely annoyed with windshield reflection coming from the drivers side instrument gauge dash hump, the dash compartment, and the drivers side airbag all reflect back at you in bright sunny weather. Either the tint needs to be looked at or an anti glare modification is needed. This is a 2006 model and Ford should of found out about this problem already. This is a safety hazard.

  • interior fit and finish needs work - 2005 Ford Freestyle
    By -

We replaced my wifes 01 Volvo S-40 with the new Freestyle. we strongly considered an XC-90, but considering the cost and features, and the maintenance costs of the Volvo, excessive to say the least, the Ford won us over, being based off the S 60 platform. Ford has a winner this time around, although not without some areas that could be improved. The interior fit and finish could be better, I’ve noted several gaps in the dash panel, A-pillar area, switchgear, especially the power mirror switch on the top left of the drivers door; looks like a last minute addition, plus it takes too much reach to safely adjust while driving. And I’d prefer a hand operated emergency brake. Overall the interior looks cheap.

  • A great Car - 2005 Ford Freestyle

Great mileage, plenty of room and really a pleasure to drive. On a long highway trip I got about 25 MPG. The CVT transmission is amazing, almost feels like you are driving an electric car.
