Pros:
  • Truly roomy seating for six passengers, plenty of cargo space, balanced ride and handling characteristics, lengthy list of safety features.
Cons:
  • So-so acceleration, some low-grade interior materials, no stability control or navigation system.

I love my Freestyle however... It had 24 miles on it when I purchased it and the transmission blew at 6700 miles. They installed a new transmission -- free of course but now that one is leaking fluid. The first transmission had a hole in it the size of a softball or a little bigger! I had no warning; it just happened and dumped 12 qt. of fluid in a parking lot. Could not drive it. Beware of this new transmission. I hate the thought of possibly needing to get rid of this car -- Ive only made 2 payments on it! I do love the car, just not the transmission at this point.

We were out looking at a replacement for my wifes 2002 Escape as we want a vehicle with more fluff. We drove the Explorer and also the Cadillac SRX. The SRX was a nice car but the finish work on the in side was poor for the high cost. We drove the Freestyle as an after thought and were very pleased. It had a lot of power with the new CVT transmission and the SEL model had everything we wanted plus it was $15,000 retail less then the Cadillac. So far we are very pleased and it is easily accessible for an aging parent with support handles in the ceiling and on the front dash.

I have driven a Ford pickup for at least 15 years, from a 150 to a Ranger. I have enjoyed all. I recently needed to find a vehicle that was more suited to health issues. I had been thinking of a minivan. My salesman mentioned the Freestyle, but had me test drive both. I was very impressed with the Freestyle. The ease of getting in as well as just the drive itself. I have read many reviews before and after I got it. I have no trouble with u-turns or get up and go. The room inside is almost as good as a pickup, but a pickup is always good to have. I am leasing this vehicle but theres a good possibility I will keep it.

  • Better than you might think - 2005 Ford Freestyle

We own one as company vehicle so it sees a lot of highway miles. And that is where it shines on the open road with 4 people and a ton of stuff out back. The rear-seat is actually more comfortable than the front passenger. The car is more comfortable than a truck based SUV yet has a third row seats, car like handling and very good fuel economy. The 3.0 and CVT wont win many races (how often is this relevant) but it is a very effective set up and would cruise at 100 mph all day if you could get away with it! The cars finishes and materials are ok and in line for a car of this size and capability for the money. Recommended!

I am a Realtor in Nova Scotia. I looked quite a while before finding the Freestyle. I drive in all kinds of weather and I live on a hilltop. I am sold on my Freestyle. My clients rave about it too. Its better looking than a van and has all the room of my former 87 Grand Marquis wagon with more comfort & AWD.

This is a very comfortable and versatile vehicle. Most pundits dont seem to grasp that a 5:17 final drive ratio can get you up and going quite briskly and the handling is terrific. Great vehicle for traveling with kids - more cargo room behind the third seat than the Expedition

Great vehicle. Much more room than expected, gas mileage even better than stated. Acceleration and mountain climbing is fine for my uses. Exterior and Interior styling could be upped a bit. Liftgate is heavy to work with. Would like some accessories to spruce up the exterior, grills, etc. But overall, I love my Freestyle!!

The Freestyle has become the default family car for commutes to Grandmas or vacations. It has shown itself to be a comfortable car on long trips. The performance is more than adequate for extended expressway travel. At expressway speeds it is up to the task of passing even on a grade. We often transfer our elderly folks around on chores and trips. They find the Freestyle easy to get in and out of. They also find it comfortable. Our daughter loves the 2nd and 3rd row seats. The handling has been surprisingly smooth with little drift. We have adjustable pedals. Adjustable steering wheel and seats provides a lot of options for finding a comfortable driving position.

Traded In our Windstar for the Freestyle In hopes of better gas mileage. Didnt work. Mixed driving shows 16 mpg. Drivers seating Is cramped. Im 64" and my right knee rests against the console. After 15 minutes or so of driving my right knee Is getting sore. Imagine a long trip.

Driving the Freestyle has been a lot of fun. The ride is great and the transmission works well. I, the dad, could use more power, but really, the mom drives it around with the three kids and she doesnt need or want the power of a sports car. I think it is an awesome choice over a minivan or SUV. Mileage is good; we are getting 20 in the city, 26 on the highway. We have the bench seat which works well with the kids getting in and out. If you want to have the space of a SUV but want better mileage, and a car drive feeling, this is a car you must give consideration.(Had to take in to the dealer to have A/C fixed ... it seems that an O-ring went bad. No problems since).
