This Year's Model Updates:

The supercharged Impala SS joins the lineup for 2004. Besides offering 240 horsepower, the SS features a tightened suspension to allow it to take corners with a bit more gusto. Base and LS models have redesigned bench and bucket seats, and a sport appearance package is now available on the base sedan.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, good crash test scores, torquey V6 engines.
Cons:
  • Vague steering, soggy suspension on base and LS models, low-buck interior.

I love my Impala SS Indy Limited edition. It has been an overall great car! It is comfortable, fun to drive, and the sterreo is awesome! My only complaint with this vehicle is having to put premium gas in it. Ooch! It is not a winter vehicle unless you live somewhere that doesnt get any snow!

Bought the car late 2003. Still have it and am now at 108,000 miles. Replaced the temp gauge at 80,000 miles, brakes at 87,000 miles and had no other major problems until 106,000 miles and then the biggie: Transmission went bad. Had to be rebuilt ($2,000). After that bummer, I have resummed my love for the car. Rides smooth, love the interior room. Not the easiest to handle on curves, but this car will fly! Lots of power, with a hint of a luxury feel. Great for road trips. Could be more sound proof inside, but overall well-built car. Would probably buy another.

I rent a lot of autos when travelling, and always request the Impala if I have to spend any real time in the car. I own my 2nd Impala. First was a 2000, now a 2002. Great interior design changes in 2 years. Extremely happy with the car overall.

Purchased my Impala Oct 04 and it ranks as my best purchase ever. More than 42 years of driving & owning 11 previous cars + 4 or 5 company vehicles. Key points: Fuel economy is outstanding. Who needs econo-boxes? On cruise control at 55 = 35+ MPG all day long. At 60 it gets 31 MPG. Maintenance: This cars been trouble- free for nearly 56,000 miles. A defective dashboard display was replaced at dealers request and under warrenty early in 2007. Im on 2nd set of tires and brakes (49K miles). The cars a hoot to drive and the kids in the little imports cant believe the way my Impala handles and outperforms much smaller cars. Im sold!

There is nothing more to life than having a car that is fun to drive. Plus, it looks great just drinving to the local supermarket or mall. It a very under estimated family sedan. Awsome for long trips, because of the great gas mileage. We can get from Washington DC to Wheeling WV and still have a quarter of a tank left!

  • Nice Car - 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Nice car. Ride is a little harsh. Good handling and great gas mileage. Fun to drive, but is not all it should be. See suggested improvements. A little pricey for the SS compared to other makes such as Nissan Maxima, etc.

The Impala is a nice car, I think leather interior would be better for comfort, I like the option of no ABS, I feel the car stops a lot better.

I owned a 1996 SS, ran great, but started falling apart slowly. Bought an 04 showroom model, and I personally think it runs great, looks sportier than recent models, has some great options.
