This Year's Model Updates:

The supercharged Impala SS joins the lineup for 2004. Besides offering 240 horsepower, the SS features a tightened suspension to allow it to take corners with a bit more gusto. Base and LS models have redesigned bench and bucket seats, and a sport appearance package is now available on the base sedan.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, good crash test scores, torquey V6 engines.
Cons:
  • Vague steering, soggy suspension on base and LS models, low-buck interior.

  • I love it - 2004 Chevrolet Impala

I drove an 06 Impala, Accord, Ford 500, Camray, and Altima. When I found this 04 LS with 19000 miles on it sitting in the front row with a $14,900 sticker on it - I fell in love. It has leather, a moonroof and all of the options. Any of the new ones with the same equipment would have run me at leat $12,000 more. I love the car, the ride, the way it looks, the gas mileage and the smell of all of that money in my pocket. If you see an 04 or 05 LS sitting in a lot - take a look and then take a drive. Youll be glad that you did!!! HEY - I LOVE depreciation! If I drive this car for three years I will only lose about $3000 in depreatiation - thank you to person that drove it first!

  • Worn out large car - 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Driver seat in the 6 Passenger seating was worn out by 50k miles. Car has no get up and go when cruising. Boring dash. Good sightlines. Big size with great gas mileage. Large trunk. Turn signals do not work all of the time.

This is a beautiful automobile that more than meets our expectations. We prefer it to our previous cars.

I have a 2004 Chevrolet Impala with just over 100,000 miles. This was a 1 owner car at purchase & I am the second owner. In the beginning this car I felt like I was getting a great deal and a great car all in one. WRONG! If I could give this 0 stars all across the board, I would. Ive owned this car less than a year, and am on my SECOND transmission. Thats just the start. This year is notorious for a hard shift & a whole lot of jerking when shifting. Ive taken the car to multiple shops only to be told theres nothing to fix that problem. Anytime I take off, the car wants to do a burn out after first hesitating to go. As I reach 1st 2nd and 3rd gear, you can expect a kick from the transmission EVERY SINGLE TIME. As I said, 2nd transmission, still does the jerk & hard shift just as the 1st one did. This is a very common issue & one that shouldve been recalled and taken care of. The body isnt too bad until it starts rusting all over the place all of the sudden, rust here, there, and everywhere all within a month. Went from a great body to a rust bucket quickly. If thats not enough already, each time I put gas in the car doesnt want to start (also a common issue). Dont let me forget that when I push the TRUNK button, the ALARM sounds & the DOORS LOCK. Window motors have gone out 3 times all within the 1 yeah of ownership. Chevrolet has done nothing about any of these problems not only for me but for mostly anyone that has had this model & year. To say the least, Id buy a bicycle before I would EVER own another Chevrolet. Theyve lost a customer for life on this one.

  • My Impala SS Experience - 2004 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

I love my Impala SS. Ive had it for almost 2 years and it still runs like a charm. Ive had no problems whatsoever with it. It drives great in rain, sleet or snow. I feel safe driving it in any weather. My three children ages 7, 11, and 12 all fit comfortably in the back seat. My son is 56 and has plenty of leg room in the back. They dont even touch elbows! I especially like driving on the highway. This car sure has some "get up and go"! I never worry about playing "chicken" to pass a "Sunday driver". That engine kicks in and I always have plenty of time to pass when needed. Out of the 5 vehicles Ive owned in my life, my Impala SS is definitely my favorite!

The Impala is my company care, and I drive alot of miles. The 180hp motor is OK off the line, but far to weak at hiway speed. Just not enough gutts or should I say tourqe to drive with real command. The real dissapointment is the interior. the seat is uncommfortable and none of the arm rests steering wheel or pedals line up right. The interior alignment in not as well thought out as with other cars I have driven. The Impala is not all bad but the important things are off the mark.

  • Many Problems - 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Overall I would have to say that I do enjoy the car when it isnt back at the dealership getting serviced. I have had problems with the brakes squeeking, rotors going bad, sunroof sticking, and as a result of the sunroof my headliner has been dripping water like crazy. Also the stereo fades in and out. Oh, and "6 speaker system", dont plan on finding the other 2 speakers, there is only 4. The performance isnt what I figured it would be for an SS, but hey cant get everything.

  • Bad Glass - 2004 Chevrolet Impala

The windshield on my car broke a couple of months ago. Whatever glass the factory was using was poor quality. The windshield got a rockchip and it instantly cracked all the way to the edge ensuring repairs were not optional. The replacement that I received didnt have the black dots and now it looks really stupid. There is a very noticable black cord for the lights on the mirror that is very visable now. Having less than 4000 miles on the car I was very disappointed. Also no child locks on the back doors.
