This Year's Model Updates:

The supercharged Impala SS joins the lineup for 2004. Besides offering 240 horsepower, the SS features a tightened suspension to allow it to take corners with a bit more gusto. Base and LS models have redesigned bench and bucket seats, and a sport appearance package is now available on the base sedan.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, good crash test scores, torquey V6 engines.
Cons:
  • Vague steering, soggy suspension on base and LS models, low-buck interior.

  • Impala a decent car for the money - 2004 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

While it isnt the Impala of the 60s the 2004 Impala is still a pretty decent car. Solid build structure (withstood a concrete truck backing into front end very well). Fuel economy is not excellent but good for a car this size. No major component breakdowns yet. Just quite a few more minor annoyances. Brake part frequent servicing,a number of worrying, but so far harmless, noises of varying types. Comfortable to drive, reasonable quite ride, good handling. Has been a 7.5 out of 10 on overall satisfaction. Lots of trunk space, especially with fold down rear seats. Standard stereo not outstanding but more than adequate. Exterior finish good to very good. Horn stinks, intend to replace it.

Quality, Reliability AND fun to Drive - what a combo. I am a professional Quality/Reliability Engineer and after 5000 miles this car has NO quality or reliability problems. Acceleration when you want it is great. When you dont want accel car is tame as a kitten. Handles well and still has a smooth ride. I owned a Lincoln LS and this beats it hands down for 1000s less.

  • Get-up & Gone - 2004 Chevrolet Impala

The best phrase to describe the Impala is "Get up & gone". Merging into traffic has been more of an ease. Absolutly no hesitation as far as this car goes; it "rails the highway." The extremely smooth ride and quitness that a luxury sedan has to offer. I love the overall performance and its style. It is also a great family car with outstanding interior space. In a nutshell, the Impala LS is a fun car to drive at a great cost.

  • GOOD, SOLID CAR - 2004 Chevrolet Impala

THIS SEEMS TO BE A SOLID BUILT CAR. IT IS VERY QUIET, AND HANDLES VERY WELL. I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS SO FAR. IT HAS ROOM FOR 3 CAR SEATS IN BACK. AND PLENTY OF LEG ROOM IN FRONT AND BACK.

We just got the car and love the sport appearance package. It looks like an SS without the need for premium fuel and loss of 2 mpg. My kids, one of whom is 59" and growing, both fit comfortably in the back seat. Their hockey and baseball bags fit in the large trunk. Gas mileage thus far has been a lot better than the van the car replaced. The sunroof gets high marks with the kids, but I dont like that it flips up and back rather than into the roof as on other GM cars. The seat-cushion length could be a couple inches longer; I have trouble supporting my thighs without playing with the seat positioning.

  • 04 Impala LS - 2004 Chevrolet Impala

My 04 Impala LS has performed great. I have taken it on long trips and gotten around 30 MPG at interstate speeds. I have no complaints and would buy another Chevy Impala again.

  • Overall Satisfaction - 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Very satisfied. Gas mileage not as much as I thought would be about 24 mpg. A few warranty issues with brakes and rotors, speedometer, steering column, paint chipping on volume button for steering wheel. Luckily everything covered under warranty. Very nice car otherwise

  • Best Car Ive owned so far - 2004 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

Ive owned several cars, and I try to run them all until they give out. Ive owned Ford, Isuzu, Nissan and others, but this car has been the best. I drive 70 miles a day round trip and love the handling, acceleration and comfort. Even though others have gotten more MPG, I only get 26 on the highway. Also, if youre over 6ft tall like me, you will love the leg room in both the front and back. The only problem I have with the vehicle is the stereo system. I know people today are into a lot of bass, but I like my sound well rounded. This system puts a too much bass for me, and is difficult to adjust to just the right amount. Minor problem for a great car.

  • Poor Quality Impala - 2004 Chevrolet Impala

This is our first new car and it has been a horrible car. The motor burned oil for the 1st 10,000 miles when the dealer finally agreed to fix it. The service writers just laugh when the car comes in. GM has even given it an extended warranty because of all the problems. The car is great to drive with all the options when it is holding together. The car was getting 31mpg hwy when they reflashed the computer and now it gets 24mpg and the dealer says that is OK. I am now selling the car. Impalas are great cars. But I wont buy GM for a while until GM and their dealers get it together.
