This Year's Model Updates:

Now into its third year of production, the Impala soldiers on as Chevrolet's bread-and-butter family sedan. Minor upgrades this year include standard dual-zone air conditioning, an AM/FM stereo and LATCH child seat tether anchors. A leather-accented 60/40 split bench seat will be available later this year on LS models, and two new exterior colors have been added.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, good crash test scores, torquey V6 engines.
Cons:
  • So-so styling, wallowy suspension,low-buck interior.

  • Very Reliable - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

My Impala has the Police Pursuit package as I use it as a police vehicle. This car has been very reliable. At 115,000 miles I have had to replace the cooling fans and the catalytic converter which was covered under warranty. I drive about 100 miles a day and it is very comfortable. The trunk is huge and holds all of my "goodies" and the performance is still very good. The interior is cramped with all of the accessories that I need, but it is workable. I would buy an Impala for personal use.

I started second week with the 02 LS sport (black). The car is fully loaded except the sunroof, I dont like it. So far it was very pleasant driving. The car looks much better than LS at least in my view. Got the car with 58 km on it and average fuel 13.5 liters per 100 km. ever since I am driving it the consuption is improving. I am at 10 liters/100km. I would like to see the dealer driver how he was "pumping it" to get to the dealer!

This has been a great car even though I have only owned for four months. It rides and handles great, the seats are as comfortable as any Mazda. Toyota or Nissan I have owned. the fuel milage is as good as any other V-6 by any other manufacturer with more power. By the way I purchased this car after my experiance with my wifes 2001 LS Impala

  • GO FOR IT! - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Well, My all my friends thought I was crazy buying another Impala. But this time it was the LS. Every option. The handling, and performance, make this car. Quiet, tight, responsive! It snowed here in mass last week. When the standard traction controll kicked in It was a like I was driving a 4WD.

Sales car. Great average gas mileage of 30 miles/gallon highway. Large trunk held my clubs and bags with ease. Great reliability. Plenty of room for 5. Excellent lumbar support, and with no center console could stretch my legs on long cruise. Well engineered, good balance of power and economy, plus roominess all for a price less than Toyota and Honda. Regular oil changes only needed new tires at 48,000 and new brakes/rotors at 58,000. Only complaint is the brake rotors, had to have originals turned twice.

  • Capable sport sedan - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

In 5 years of ownership I have not had a single issue regarding drivabiliy or dependablity. For $25,000, a car with a good deal of ammenities. All the ones youd expect, with the additon of full leather, and the added bonus of a sport suspension. Had driven the non-LS version as a rental, and really liked what Chevrolet did to punch up basically a family sedan.

This is probably the best GM car I have ever owned and I have been buying them for 52 years. Excellent highway car, comfortable, tracks well, good response to the accelerator and is fun to drive. The car is also good on city driving trips, easy parking. Good fuel economy and very low maintenance costs. Only negative is wind noise on interstate roads.

I currently have over 140,000 miles on my 2002 Impala sedan. I love it. 32mpg or better on highway w/ac on. Original tires, tiger paws, changed at 78,000. On second set. Original frontt disc brakes went to 102,000 miles, rear brakes at 127,000. Did have manifold leak taken care of. Really been a great car
